Piss off out the countryside

Aibu to think the idiots who have all fled from towns to the countryside are incredibly selfish.
I live in a small rural estate.
There are quite obviously people from towns and cities coming together on gatherings suddenly 'embracing' the countryside.
Ok fine; but they apparently can't stick to the public footpaths where they can all infect each other. Instead they keep coming off the footpath and walking the mile to our estate from it and hanging about.
The average age on our estate is 70+. I don't know anyone else that is under 70 and many are 90+ I haven't seen anyone leave their houses for a long time but today I saw a very elderly frail man take a walk on the estate and he was leaning on a bench when a load of teenagers came right up to the boundary of the road to our estate and I saw the man try to get away but he couldn't fast enough and nearly fell over from trying.

We live in isolation anyway generally. This is the first time we've had to deal with so many people coming through our field off the public footpath.
I wish they'd stay away. I also wish less risk people would understand what social distancing means. If they're venturing into our estate I've no doubt they're off gallivanting on to further farms etc. Which can only heighten the problems we face today. These dc are not from the rural area. I've never seen so many cars parked near the footpath. It's so daft it's upsetting.

Boris has warned we will have to go to lockdown. Is this really what people want?
Get out of the countryside if you don't live here. It's obvious so many elderly people live here. Come back in better times.

@swimster01 please go give your fucking head a wobble.

swimster01 · 23/03/2020 11:25

@FrangipaniBlue take a hike

Ginnymweasley · 23/03/2020 11:32

All this shows is you cant argue with the entitled and the stupid. They WANT to go to these places so they will go until someone actually stops them. They do not care at all about stopping the spread of the virus, they do not care about limited resources of rural areas. They want to do something so they are going to do it.

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 11:59

1Mrt had 3 rescues this weekend, lost walkers, fallen runner and fallen walker with a fractured leg. One of those rescues took 9 hrs. 2 other Mrt units had rescues this weekend as well. All 20 Scottish Mrt units are saying stay away with good reason.

A primary school headteacher has died in Cumbria. Apparently they have a lot of cases of there. You have to wonder if that's down to all of the town and city dwellers who feel its their 'right' to go up to lakes and spread their germs everywhere?

Well it could be or it could be because there was a spate of cases in Cumbria. It's very sad, devastating, but I think blaming 'town and city dwellers' with no proof is unfair.

MinesaBottle · 23/03/2020 12:37

People were arrested last night in anglesey for protesting outside a caravan park, the locals really are angry

I’m not surprised. Been hearing from my brother in Anglesey that people who don’t have local accents are being asked where they live. Yes I know there are lots of people who’ve moved there.

TheMemoryLingers · 23/03/2020 12:45

They are absolutely right to protest.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 23/03/2020 12:51

Indeed apple

Still the entitled spreaders don’t care. They will be planning their jollies to the countryside thinking we have a fuckton of hospitals/healthcare evause google says so, so they’ll be fine.

Only digging deeper they would find out that all of our little hospitals have no intensive care units and are merely God’s waiting rooms with the odd recovery ward.

It is nothing to do with keeping our countryside to ourselves - we do not have the resources to cope.
It isn’t hard to understand.

Mountain Rescue Teams are not issuing statements for shits and giggles.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 23/03/2020 12:53

And it may be unfair to ‘blame’ tourists but it can only increase the risk.

Cinammoncake · 23/03/2020 13:04

It is unfair, no may be. People in the countryside understandably want to be safe in their little bubble, but country dwellers will still visit supermarkets, travel, visit petrol stations, get packages. There's no proof that city dwellers have brought them in this virus by going for a walk on their land Confused

Obviously people should STAY AT HOME, we all agree that. Just surprising on this thread that some country dwellers seem to take the view that they ought to be immune but don't mind if say London gets it. Not pleasant.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 23/03/2020 13:16

We are not immune. That’s the point. We have cases here now. So if one of the community passes it to someone who really shouldn’t be here that is unfair too. And dare I say unpleasant. It is about increasing the risk when there is no need.

I agree we should be staying at home but trust me, folk are not.

And saying we don’t care if London gets it? What rot. Point me in the direction of a post like that and I’ll report it.

I care. Others care. No one wants this anywhere but risking others out of stupidity and selfishness is deeply unfair.

orangeandbananas · 23/03/2020 13:35

All anyone is saying is stay home. Go for a walk nearby and avoid any unnecessary travel. Unnecessary being the key word here.

You can go for a walk around your area. Grass is not a requirement to achieve a walk.

To my personal knowledge we have a case in Conwy and in Colwyn Bay which means we probably have many more. Touristy areas are empty in the winter which means we have fewer health facilities, which is logical.

justasking111 · 23/03/2020 13:36

Llandudno this morning when I picked up a prescription was weird, brilliant sunshine, turned into the car park on the retail estate, empty, only boots open. Across the road Asda, ten allowed in at a time.

Ginnymweasley · 23/03/2020 13:53

My dh works in llandudno and he says it's really odd. He had to have his lunch outside today as they are limiting the amount of people in his canteen and he says it was silence. He sat near venue cymru and all he could here were seagulls. Very strange. Think his work will be going down to skeleton staff soon as well.

justasking111 · 23/03/2020 13:55

Ginny, the seagulls must be confused, no-one to nick food from on the prom.

justasking111 · 23/03/2020 13:56

The promenade in Llandudno was so beautiful today in the sunshine, blue seas, it really is surreal.

Ginnymweasley · 23/03/2020 13:58

I'm surprised DH managed to eat his food in peace tbh. They should have spotted him a mile off haha

derxa · 23/03/2020 13:58

but country dwellers will still visit supermarkets, travel, visit petrol stations, get packages. We have our own supermarkets etc. We just want to stop people coming too them. And I don't want you to walk on my land. It's a place of work not a playground.

Tonyaster · 23/03/2020 13:59

I've had a few drive here from the nearby town, park at the top of our no through road and let their dogs have a run around off lead in the fallow field opposite our house. I tell them to bugger off. People are idiots.

Ginnymweasley · 23/03/2020 13:59

derxa they do all seem surprised that there are supermarkets and shops in places other than large towns and cities.

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 14:03

Government, medical services and rescue services saying stay home. It's not a bubble, it's areas with much lower Emergency and medical resources. It's a pandemic not a holiday.

Zombiemum1946 · 23/03/2020 14:08

If its bad enough for them to announce that Dominic Rabb is the designated survivor should Boris get sick, it's bad enough to stay at home.

maudspellbody · 23/03/2020 14:11

Just had an argument with a friend.

I talked about another argument I had with the same friend on another thread. That time it was because he thinks that, although he has been told to work from home, he's going into the office because he wants to be helpful...

Anyway.

He went out yesterday on his motorbike on a ride into Wales (from West Midlands). I told him not to be ridiculous. Stay at home. He said it was fine, he has a massive helmet on, wasn't going to stop or buy anything and I was over reacting.

Of course he broke down and had to call out a mechanic Angry

And guess what? He's gone on another jolly ride out into the countryside today.

It's not necessary. He might say he's not going to go near another person, but what if he needs to refuel? Or comes off the damn thing and ends up taking up valuable resources? His reply to that was 'it's not anything I ever intend to do. Why would I start now?' AngryAngry

He even went around to visit his 75 year old mother yesterday. AngryAngry

The rules clearly do not apply to him. At all.

He may be an ex friend soon enough.

Thank you. That was cathartic.
