Someone said earlier that no numbers anywhere are totally accurate, as in some countries are waiting until after death (esp if there is a known co-morbidity) before testing and then certifying death as the co-morbidity caused, and then, on Italian news earlier they interviewed some paramedics who are only getting to 23% of people who die before they die- in their homes, so ICU numbers are correct but the "critically ill" figures aren't.
The UK figures look "good" today. Suspiciously so I think.

GingerLemonTea · 22/03/2020 17:32

11539 cases in USA

theskyispurple · 22/03/2020 17:32

So.... the over 70s that need to isolate for 12 weeks are different to the 1.5 million who need to be shielded for 12 weeks?

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:32

Mikey Smith - 'And there we have it. Boris Johnson just told every idiot cramming into a park that they’re all fine.'

Steven Swinford -'Very good question from Sam Coates who asks Boris Johnson how parents can keep children two metres away from each other in parks - isn't this why Ireland closed parks?'

Boris Johnson says benefits of keeping parks open outweigh value of closing them - BUT that is under review

BarbedBloom · 22/03/2020 17:32

But the bloody virus' live on surfaces. Ffs

middleager · 22/03/2020 17:32

I'm also screaming into the void pp.

waspfig · 22/03/2020 17:32

Directly comparing death rates against other countries is not helpful as rates change throughout an epidemic.

BarbedBloom · 22/03/2020 17:33

I am so angry I couldn't type. The virus lives on

kirinm · 22/03/2020 17:33

Playgrounds in some London boroughs are closing.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:33

Norman Smith - 'Boris Johnson defends keeping parks etc open - "Its veryimportant for people's physical and mental well being that they shd be able to get out." '

chomalungma · 22/03/2020 17:33

Have you ever taken a child to a park?

Grin

Has he?

Wetcappuccino · 22/03/2020 17:34

Scotland is up 43 in the last 24 hours. The total cases is 416.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:34

Italy
Diagnosed: 59,138 (+5,560)
Serious in ICU: 3,009 (+152)
Deceased: 5,476 (+651)
Recovered: 7,024 (+952)

woodencoffeetable · 22/03/2020 17:34

sorry @Alladdsup I got sent it via a chat group.

I know it's enormously simplified, but if it helps make things clear to those who have difficulties following the news then great.

Yamayo · 22/03/2020 17:34

US figures are exploding!!!

Newbeginnings2 · 22/03/2020 17:35

I’m confused why they are saying figures worse than Italy?

waspfig · 22/03/2020 17:36

'Currently 12% of ICU beds are occupied by covid patients'

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:36

Tom McTague - 'Italy’s case fatality rate is 10 percent, the UK govt adviser says, whereas, she says, Britain’s is officially 4 percent, but is, in reality, closer to 1 percent. Why? '

Jo Coburn -'Deputy Chief Medical Officer says ‘we will have many more deaths......but we should be very cautious about a direct comparison with other countries like Italy’ for eg'

BarbedBloom · 22/03/2020 17:36

I cannot deal with this man anymore. He has blood on his hands

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:37

Alex Wickham -'Boris Johnson signals he will consider restrictions on people's movements if people do not act responsibly.'

norman smith - 'There really is mixed messaging here. PM says going out good for people's health. Sadiq Khan says don't go out. Need clarity......'

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:37

Yet boris popularity is surging - will it collapse at some point through.

ClashCityRocker · 22/03/2020 17:37

Sorry, got figures from the gov. site

chomalungma · 22/03/2020 17:38

It's the way he speaks. I can't stand it.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:38

Steven Swinford - 'Boris Johnson suggesting that unless people act responsibly the Government may have to follow the example of other countries and bring in 'restrictions on people's movements altogether'

That goes significantly further than just closing parks - PM talking about lockdown.'

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 17:38

Helena Wilkinson -'Question to PM from @BBCVickiYoung

  • courts are still going to be open tomorrow... why is that?

PM: Many courts are already using remote technology to do their business but we’re keeping that under constant review.'
