Plus plenty of people in other hotspots will flee to the countryside knowing lockdown is coming.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:28

And while london is over represented in the deaths plenty of other areas have just as bad outbreaks.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 19:31

Address is sounding intense.

Rinoachicken · 23/03/2020 19:35

Maybe the queen has it

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 19:35

@Angryrant55 I agree, if they do a partial lockdown, I think you will see people moving very quickly all over the country to get to somewhere else they want to be (e.g. somewhere they are able to look after relatives from, somewhere not in a city etc) and this could be a real problem.

I think if/when it happens, it will have to happen very quickly for it to be properly effective.

I think there will be some people driving out of London now, actually.

Horehound · 23/03/2020 19:38

@Rinoachicken oh don't say that

Rinoachicken · 23/03/2020 19:40

@Horehound I hope not too - but it’s perfectly possible unfortunately

Horehound · 23/03/2020 19:40

But Boris said no point doing a lockdown until the optimal time is right. I don't think that is just yet, is it???

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:40

I do wonder if the UK is less community focused than on the continent and how that will do things.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:41

I doubt he would announce the queen has it - he is not her only pm for a start.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 23/03/2020 19:44

I don't think we need national address to tell us queen has it?.
Or even died from it would it?

Horehound · 23/03/2020 19:46

No probably not

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:48

Nope - when the queen dies newsreaders would announce it and then a bit later the serving pm would appear to pay tribute.

willdoitinaminute · 23/03/2020 19:50

Closing schools has had exactly the effect behaviourists predicted. Closing non essential businesses will only amplify this. They need to close non essential work simultaneously with lockdown or the hard of thinking will just have a big party/holiday.
It sounds like they will order everyone back home who think they have got away with it.

willdoitinaminute · 23/03/2020 19:51

The general public are so bloody predictable. Herd mentality at its best.

SunshineCake · 23/03/2020 20:01

..."he is not he only pm for a start.

Doesn't make any sense.

AWryGiraffe · 23/03/2020 20:03

He isn't her only prime minister - plenty of other commonwealth counties that she is head of state over.

SunshineCake · 23/03/2020 20:03

*not her

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 20:06

An announcement about the Queen would send everyone doolally

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 20:13

My parents are thick - my dad has his prescription registered at a chemist five miles away and thinks a lock-down will not cause it any issues getting them.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 20:14

Ditto they think travelling miles on a bus to a beigal shop will be totally unaffected.

Janemarpling · 23/03/2020 20:14

Pp who was worried about her dd in year 10. Yes its a worry but to put it into perspective. There were 15 weeks left of education time. We were half way through by Feb half term.
Take two weeks off for end if term festivities. So she will miss 13 weeks. Yes its a chunk but the whole cohort is in the same situation. Teachers will endeavour to catch them up.

Horehound · 23/03/2020 20:15

Well, I don't disagree with him. You are allowed to go get your prescription 🤷

mrshoho · 23/03/2020 20:15

sorry above link re carehome where half the residents are infected 😣 further update saying possibly three quarters now
