Re food shop: We have to eat so I’d assume so! All the other countries do.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 19:01

Horehound fingers crossed. My sister is stuck in Pacific Islands (not holiday, work) and flights just got cancelled.

CrowleysBentley · 23/03/2020 19:01

I haven't had a text though GP did try and call me earlier and I missed the call. Called the surgery who said they would call back but nothing, they're closed now. I'm staying indoors anyway, so doesn't make much difference to get the call.

Boris making an announcement at 8.30pm apparently.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:01

Twice a week will make panic buying worse as everyone will buy tons to get them through it.

confusedandtired99 · 23/03/2020 19:01

@Angryrant55 my dad is staying with me for much the same reason as he’s on his own otherwise. My business is going tits up and my husband is working from home so limiting the risk as much as we can. Mind you we do live in the same county so I can’t see why it would cause an issue.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:04

it better for shops to have everyone going every day for a few items rather than mass buying twice a week - and if they did do twice a week they wouldn't be able to mass limit toiletrolls as some households do use more than 8 rolls a week - a family of 6 or more would.

justchecking1 · 23/03/2020 19:08

I imagine they would stagger the 2 days! Maybe depending on birth month or initial if surnsne or some such

Horehound · 23/03/2020 19:09

Oh no @MarshaBradyo what a bummer. So is that it then? She's stuck for god knows how long?

Horehound · 23/03/2020 19:10

I wouldn't panic buy. Surely if you go once a week you just do your weekly shop. Stores should still restrict certain items

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:10

That be further than anywhere but china. Hell in whuan it was every other day.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 23/03/2020 19:11

It is a reliable source, we work for the airlines. There are no flights after Weds.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 19:12

Horehound waiting to hear about a charter flight organised by her work. When she said she had 24 hours notice to fly I said good! But still it didn’t happen fast enough.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:12

If you went only weekly you wouldn't be able rely on 1 or 2 of some items for the whole week - fresh fruit doesn't always last a week and week old bread or milk is going to be a challenge.

TheCanterburyWhales · 23/03/2020 19:12

Food shop twice a week would be bonkers. Initially they said all ours had to close early mainly to get people off the streets but now the latest tweak said they could stay open longer to avoid queues (only a handful allowed in at a time) and panic buying.
Dp has been doing ours and says as the weeks go on it has got calmer overall.

PJMasksGhekko · 23/03/2020 19:14

Can someone help me, my Mum had a pulmonary embolism about 4 years, would she be classed as high risk, and will she hear from her doctors about isolating, she works in the local co op too, thank you x

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 19:17

@PJMasksGhekko

In theory if she is 'officially' high risk, she will hear from her doctors at some point this week.

If she's concerned, she could try contacting her GP for advice.

Horehound · 23/03/2020 19:17

@Angryrant55 they won't restrict you to 2 bananas...maybe two packs. Most people do a weekly shop and it's never been an issue. You're making up problems before they are even a reality!

@MarshaBradyo damn! I told my brother to book a flight for today about three days ago. I got the all "no, no I know best" and now he had to use my help to even book the flight on the 30th.
My concern is if they close hotels etc what will they do? His partner is with the army and was out working in another country but they met in Cambodia for a holiday. She now can't get back to the country she's supposed to be working in but I don't think the army will send a plane out especially for two people.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 23/03/2020 19:19

DH knew last week the flight plans, only told me today!

Helenj1977 · 23/03/2020 19:19

My guess. London lockdown now, no travel, shops closed, full lockdown if people carry on ignoring.

I dont think it will be a full country lockdown yet.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:22

I think it full country.

Most people do big shop then pick up things in smaller shops through the week.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 19:24

And if no public transport then where we are in london it only be smaller versions of the big shops unless a 25 minute walk there and back to the nearest large supermarket.

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 19:24

If it's not full country, won't people just flee London?

We are already having issues with a large number of people coming to Cornwall, where we just do not have the infrastructure to cope with lots of people getting sick at once.

PJMasksGhekko · 23/03/2020 19:25

Thanks Sansa, I hope she hears from them.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 23/03/2020 19:25

The seriousness of an '' address '', TO the nation sounds terrifying.

Maybe this is the intention?
It's worrying though. Maybe he's going to announce he has it?
