Sansa

Nothing is over kill right now.

The Italy no s are a small chink of light. Fingers crossed.

danni0509 · 23/03/2020 17:24

I really hope this is the start of it slowing for Italy.

Number12 · 23/03/2020 17:25

@SansaSnark that makes total sense to me. I don't envy those with a front door off the pavement though Blush oh you inside Grin

SunshineCake · 23/03/2020 17:29

No, getting your dog groomed is not okay Hmm.

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 17:29

@VivaLeBeaver That plan actually does sound viable.

I would add- you carry the dog to the bath (if possible) and then wash the clothes you are wearing, but I know that might not be possible.

If it's a potential welfare issue, and you've already tried at home, I think you have to weigh up the relative risks.

wintertravel1980 · 23/03/2020 17:30

That's a very old Guardian article about patient 1. He's now completely cured and patient 0 has also been located.

Yes, I agree it is an old article but it partially explains why Italy death rates jumped so much in early March. That was the result of mistakes made 2-3 weeks prior to that.

UK is running 2 weeks behind Italy but our trajectory over past couple of days has looked slightly better. I am hoping it means we have got fewer hospital transmissions and are partially "shielding" the vulnerable population.

Success (or failure) of social distancing measures will only be seen in the longer run.

thelittlefox · 23/03/2020 17:30

Our death numbers seem to have fallen behind Italy in the last couple of days because there was that one day where the Italian numbers doubled overnight. Was that them changing how they were reporting? I think it went from 133 to 266.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 23/03/2020 17:30

Sansa, that's how I had the kids arriving home for the last week they were in school - strip at the door and shower straight away! Shame they're children and had probably been licking their friends all day beforehand... Grin

AbsentmindedWoman · 23/03/2020 17:31

Gosh I am so hopeful that Italy is over the worst. Those poor people.

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 17:33

I am in a difficult position, as I live in a flat and have a shared entrance with 2 other flats. I think when I am due to go into school, I will warn the other flats and then go back down and try to disinfect the stairs etc as much as possible.

defthand · 23/03/2020 17:33

I don’t trust the government to not change the way they are reporting death numbers. I know that’s cynical (I hope far too cynical) but their caginess and hijinks around testing has my BS metre set high.

Helenj1977 · 23/03/2020 17:33

My 66yo dad, mildly vulnerable so no letter, has just had his fucking hair cut.

I give up.

thelittlefox · 23/03/2020 17:34

Sorry, not doubled, but 50% jump.

Mar 7 233
Mar 8 366

Was that a change in reporting method or just a really bad 24 hours for them?

NemophilistRebel · 23/03/2020 17:34

At the same point we are now Italy had 469 deaths

We still aren’t taking the same trajectory

mrshoho · 23/03/2020 17:35

@Homkaismycat You were actually serious! I actually thought it was a piss take when you said you had lung disease and were bringing your child along, having highlights. You were really considering going???

Calmonthesurfacebut · 23/03/2020 17:35

Our locals authority made 100’s of packs of sandwiches for children on free school meals. The idea was for them to go to a collection point and pick them up.

Most of them haven’t been collected so ate offering them to anyone who wants to get them.

I’ve heard through a very reliable source that lockdown was planned for Weds. I do wonder however if after this emergency Cobra meeting, it may be brought forward.

CrunchyCarrot · 23/03/2020 17:39

Well, am pleased to see our death rate is again below that of Italy's at the same point.

Jenasaurus · 23/03/2020 17:39

have we heard todays figures yet please

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 23/03/2020 17:39

Yeah our LA made sandwiches too - no plan how to get the sandwiches to the many people who were unable to collect though. A plan has now been sorted for tomorrow.

Rinoachicken · 23/03/2020 17:40

It could still be Wednesday, but announced this evening to give 24hr notice and allow people to travel home etc

Horehound · 23/03/2020 17:41

Oh there's always these "reliable sources" that aren't reliable at all.
Who was that poster yesterday who said it would 100% be today?

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 17:41

No one has a reliable source.

thelittlefox · 23/03/2020 17:42

@defthand

I agree, certainly seems like there has been use of testing volume to "flatten the curve", bearing in mind that official advice if you suspect infection is to not inform anyone for at least 7 days! I wonder what else is being manipulated.

Horehound · 23/03/2020 17:42

@willdoitinaminute come on! Where's the screenshot from your reliable source?!

Horehound · 23/03/2020 17:42

Exactly @MarshaBradyo
