Gregg's closing is a travesty!

wintertravel1980 · 23/03/2020 17:07

No, social distancing does not play any role in today's numbers but hopefully UK managed to stop / slow down the spread of undetected CV infections in hospitals.

Italian patient 1 had been able to infect 8 hospital workers and patients before he was tested. As a result, the virus hit the vulnerable group very quickly and eventually was one of the significant contributing factors to the current tragedy:

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/26/coronavirus-inquiry-opens-into-hospitals-at-centre-of-italy-outbreak

UK gets criticised for focusing on hospital testing but if the number of tests is limited, we are actually targeting the right group.

Corbra takes time to organise through.

TokyoSushi · 23/03/2020 17:08

Sky News saying now that the government is planning to bring on tougher measures and will be speaking 'in the next few hours' - lets see...

TokyoSushi · 23/03/2020 17:09

The PM will be speaking that is

Gregg's closing is a travesty!
It's really not Grin

Number12 · 23/03/2020 17:11

Dog grooming!! So you hand over the dog at the door, someone potentially with the virus is breathing and shedding the virus, hands all over your dog and lead and then hands back....you greet said dog..... I wouldn't but then im staying home. Forever. Grin

Dog grooming and hairdresser questions have got to be piss takes?

Helenj1977 · 23/03/2020 17:14

@Number12 Thank you. I just needed someone to tell me.

We've been home for over a week now and it's seems pointless if we did.

I hate this so much 😭

SistemaAddict · 23/03/2020 17:15

Bojo is up to something for sure. IMO.

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 17:15

Dog grooming I wouldn't unless it's 100% essential for the dog's wellbeing and you can't do some kind of job yourself at home.

People working at the dog groomers could shed the virus onto your dog/collar/lead- you then touch the dog and pick it up.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/03/2020 17:16

My dog groomer has a plan. Dog is put in her garden with lead and collar removed. She comes out house, catches dog with her own lead and collar. Grooms it wearing gloves and an apron.

Swapped back over in garden in reverse. She never touches my lead, i don’t touch hers.

I could then bath dog when I get her home to be extra safe.

It’s a haircut she needs. Or she will be well matted. I’ve had a go at clipping her but can’t do her legs, tummy, armpits.

AutumnRose1 · 23/03/2020 17:16

Viva, sorry for your hubby.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/03/2020 17:17

Thanks, could be worse. Others (inc Dd) have totally lost their jobs. At least she lives at home though. And I work.

Number12 · 23/03/2020 17:17

I can't get my dc off the telly so if boris comes on can you give me a heads up please. Its been homeschooling hell today we both need a break! Thanks

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 17:18

Mark Lowen - 'New: 601 #Coronavirus deaths in #Italy in past 24 hours, a fall again from yesterday - and crucially the rise in new infections has slowed again, from 9 to 8.1%. Second consecutive one-day fall. Will give people heart that there could be a flicker of light at end of tunnel.'

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 17:19

As a teacher, we were given the following advice about what to do when we get home on days we go into school, especially if we live with anyone who may be vulnerable:

-Have a black binliner waiting by our door.
-Undress as soon as we come in and put all clothes into the binliner.
-Have our washing machine waiting and open.
-Put our clothes in the washing machine without touching it.
-Try to avoid touching surfaces.
-Have a shower, and wash ourselves thoroughly.
-Then close the washing machine door and put the wash on.

Initially, this sounds like overkill, but if you think it through, it's a relatively effective way to make sure you're minimising any transfer of the virus inside your home, if it just on your clothes etc.

BREAKING: Italy reports 4,789 new cases and 601 new deaths, raising total to 63,927 cases and 6,077 dead t.co/47MXF0XUJ0

TheCanterburyWhales · 23/03/2020 17:20

That's a very old Guardian article about patient 1. He's now completely cured and patient 0 has also been located.
As we all now know, when Italy was still at a handful of cases (including patient 1) they didn't take it seriously and only closed his home town of Codogno a few days later. There have been no new cases in Codogno for about a week now following a total and heavily policed lockdown.

EducatingArti · 23/03/2020 17:21

Do you think they will let post offices stay open?

AvocadoOwl · 23/03/2020 17:21

Corbra takes time to organise through.

They've had a Monday afternoon cobra meeting for at least the last 3-4 weeks. I'm quite sure they take time to prepare for but today's cobra isn't a 'surprise' emergency cobra meeting.

Angryrant55 · 23/03/2020 17:22

In italy post offices have been open - and in the uk they even more important due to money giving aspect.

AvocadoOwl · 23/03/2020 17:22

'Good' news from Italy. Obviously awful but that second day of falling figures could be really important.

defthand · 23/03/2020 17:23

Good to see the social distancing finally starting to have an impact on Italian numbers. 👍
