Excel Centre in London’s Docklands could be turned into giant field hospital in fight against coronavirus

Well Boris did want to build 40 hospitals... I'm not sure this is quite what the public had in mind though.

mrshoho · 23/03/2020 12:46

@TheElementsOfMedical sounds like a plan 😁

kirinm · 23/03/2020 12:47

Nope to a lockdown today. There have been travel restrictions put in place and council's are closing playgrounds etc so I think there will be a reduction in people being out and about - not because the government has actually done anything but because council's and shop owners and businesses have made the decision themselves.

I think we will see a decision being made by the government in the next couple of days.

Sadiq Khan has been pretty explicit when it comes to London.

Fivetoomany · 23/03/2020 12:50

Has anyone noticed there is no bbc news special today? Strange after having one everyday for the last week.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 23/03/2020 12:51

Eve, I've heard from a nurse at the Gwent that they have started the wider testing of patients for CV, which is part of why their numbers are higher.

Anecdotally, I do know someone who went in with an MI - no cough and no fever - who was tested, so it's plausible

AutumnRose1 · 23/03/2020 12:52

Beyond, I’m trying to think what MI is. I can only come up with myocardial infarction which I hope is not what happened to your friend!

Reastie · 23/03/2020 12:53

If you’re outside and keeping 2 meters from someone, would wind/breeze have an impact? Surely I’m standing 2 meters from someone outside but the wind is going straight from them to me that still puts me at risk even though I’m 2 m away? Confused

Lifesavesocialdistance · 23/03/2020 12:54

Red I agree.

People just don't understand, and not just 1 concept but a huge myriad of things.

People don't understand incubation, no symptoms, how this spreads.

AvocadoOwl · 23/03/2020 12:55

Excel Centre as a temp hospital is a very sensible idea.

Fivetoomany · 23/03/2020 12:56

Ahh I can see it now at 3.45pm on bbc one Blush

BarbedBloom · 23/03/2020 12:58

I live opposite the Royal Gwent and am hearing more sirens than I ever have before. Probably not only Covid but am guessing they have a high number of patients now. Have been woken by ambulances twice now.

Horehound · 23/03/2020 12:59

Think my brother and his gf are stuck in Cambodia. I'm so worried and angry at the same time because I told him not to go!

AvocadoOwl · 23/03/2020 12:59

Sturgeon currently ordering closure of all non essential shops.

AvocadoOwl · 23/03/2020 12:59

... in Scotland (obvs).

Lifesavesocialdistance · 23/03/2020 12:59

( comment in response to the two different kinds of delivery same message)

Talia99 · 23/03/2020 13:00

@AutumnRose1 - I took it to be a minor injury.

TheElementsOfMedical · 23/03/2020 13:06

Thing is, if I actually proposed my plan to a wider audience there would no doubt be howls of wounded outrage from the exact same people who were all snuggling up close and personal in the ice cream van queue, interspersed with explanations of why they specifically deserve the highest levels of medical care.

Jade1976 · 23/03/2020 13:09

@Eeyoresstickhouse Smile

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 13:11

I suppose there’s a briefing at 5

EveLevine · 23/03/2020 13:12

@BeyondMymymymyCorona I have two close relatives working there and they’ve said similar. I believe they also had existing patients (admitted for other reasons) in isolation before the testing was widespread, if they’ve now been tested it could explain the sudden rise in numbers.

SistemaAddict · 23/03/2020 13:13

My new neighbour has been in and out all weekend. His children are flitting between here and other houses daily. Possibly just their mums but even so. I thought we might get on but then I saw him in a pale grey suit and pointy pale brown shoes and knew he wasn't my kind of person.

Number12 · 23/03/2020 13:15

@Bercows Grin

Jade1976 · 23/03/2020 13:17

@Bercows grey & brown is never good Wink

Skittlesss · 23/03/2020 13:21

Bercows, I read that as “get it on” Grin

grannycake · 23/03/2020 13:22

i think that the large spike in Welsh figures are linked to the Wngland Wales rugby - either people travelled through London for the game or were out in pubs and clubs watching it. I also think that we'll see another next week after the Stereophonics concert. Both of these events should have been cancelled
