Is the optimal time when the world's religious leaders have exhausted mass prayers and conceded that science might just be the solution perhaps?

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:50

Probally also needs to work out issues like where to get any form if you don't have a printer - handwritten (like France) or available in a type of shop( like Italy)

Choux · 22/03/2020 19:51

Does anyone know more about the 18 year old? That is terrifying!
That poor teenager
Have they said "underlying condition"?

I don't know if it is the same case but a friend told me yesterday of an 18yr old who had cancer and died a couple of days ago. After death it was found he had COVID 19 as well as the cancer. Sounded like he was someone who died with it rather than from it from what I was told. When he wasn't in yesterday's stats I thought that they must have decided it wasn't a COVID death. It might be the same case, it might not be.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:52

And how to deal with the supermarket problems.

mrshoho · 22/03/2020 19:54

Thanks Angry, I was just wondering if they were given the information in Italy about just how dangerous this virus is for them and the extra protection they need to take? For example my dh will not be going for any routine blood tests/appointments at the hospital and no food shopping etc.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:56

Maybe, I can't find out where the 18 year old died. If that information appears would that likely confirm or rule it out for you?

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:57

Five dead in slough hospital yesterday.

Choux · 22/03/2020 19:58

I was told WMids area

OldQueen1969 · 22/03/2020 20:00

Seriously though, we should have a detailed breakdown of age, gender, and how many people had an underlying condition and how many didn't. Because right now, generally healthy people (who I appreciate may have an undiagnosed underlying condition) are probably still thinking they are somehow exempt from risk, and that it will, for sure be "mild" and they will survive. Some people need that wake up call. If the only people becoming critically ill and dying do have underlying conditions, it's still tragic and should inform patient assessment in the first instance. If people present as symptomatic they should have a general work up for both the virus and the underlying conditions raised as risk factors as standard. It would be nice if this didn't have to be a retrospective study after the carnage. And yes, funding and resources are scarce. I do get that. But either we learn this thing inside out as soon as possible or we don't.

Coquohvan · 22/03/2020 20:02

@Angryrant55
I thought an update said days ago that no further court cases other than those commenced would not go through the courts now.
Scotland may have a decision on Alex Salmond on Monday.

Aurea · 22/03/2020 20:08

What would a lock down mean?

I assume you could drive to work?
Go to food shops/chemists?
Walk the dog away from others?
Have deliveries?

Is this realistic? Anything else?

mrshoho · 22/03/2020 20:13

I think that's about it Aurea

Zarahaider88 · 22/03/2020 20:15

@WhoWants2Know is that the UK mother? Or is it the 27 year old mother in Poland ? :(

TheCanterburyWhales · 22/03/2020 20:16

My friend works for the court system (UK) and they are definitely working with no sign of stopping. She's v pissed off. They are classed as key workers.

Are the letters going out in the UK to the vulnerable? I'm not sure we've had anything like that (or any other kind tbh) Although my FIL aged 90 was called on the phone to see if they needed SS help during the lockdown.

I agree with the non-breakdowns. Again you only have to look on MN to see the "99.9999999% of those under 80 and not already sick will be fine you evil scaremongerer!"

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 20:16

Deliever food to people self isolating or vulnerable?

In rural areas driving to get food/chemist is needed - in towns the majority can probably walk to a decent sized supermarket.

Parker231 · 22/03/2020 20:18

My French friends say you have to complete a form giving the reasons you are leaving the house. The form has to be carried with you and will be checked by the police if you are stopped. If you state you are going shopping at 1pm and stopped at 4pm - you risk a fine for being out of the house too long.

TheCanterburyWhales · 22/03/2020 20:18

No more dog walking here as of last night. You can take Fido out for a poo near your house, but no actual walk.

IronNeonClasp · 22/03/2020 20:19

We have lots of people driving around (very fast) where I live. You'd need army to block roads. I don't understand how they would impose restrictions.

It's a shame no one has got the memo really and been given chances to stay in.

My neighbour: son went to Tesco for flowers first thing - has had both her daughters come over with partners today. Not nosing btw just can see as my window is kind of on their steps.

Point is - Happy Mother's Day - have some CV.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 20:19

Bet there is a rise of dog deaths soon then.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 20:21

Darren McCaffrey -NEW: Death toll in France increases to 674, after another 112 people confirmed to have died over the past 24 hours

Total of 16,018 cases have been recorded, but the figure is widely believed to be an "underestimate"

France has been in lockdown since Tuesday.'

woodencoffeetable · 22/03/2020 20:22

Bet there is a rise of dog deaths soon then.

why? dogs don't die from not being walked for a couple of weeks. not ideal, but needs must.

mrshoho · 22/03/2020 20:23

@TheCanterburyWhales in the next week they are contacting 1.5 million who fall into v high risk groups such as certain cancer patients, transplant, immunotherapy etc with specific recommendations to protect them . I'm just hoping that this might go someway to helping the situation here and relieving ICU demand if it's not too late.

OldQueen1969 · 22/03/2020 20:23

The first cases in Grenada and Mozambique are being reported by the Guardian as having recently travelled from the UK. Not only are our actions threatening our own population but the wider world who may have even less robust health infrastructure. If stricter measures aren't taken we're in "The Never Ending Story".

WwfLeopard · 22/03/2020 20:26

If the test come through that say if we’ve got antibodies for the virus, are we in the clear? Or still hoping for a vaccine?

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 20:26

I imagine some dogs probably will suffer. Depends if it still has a garden i imagine.
