Well it's very sad but it's not terrifying and is expected since they were in the vulnerable category. It's not a category just for fun.
Poor soul :(

SunshineCake · 22/03/2020 18:49

You know, if it was my relative I wouldn't want people nosying about what the underlying condition was but if you are asking as scared you might have the same condition then I think understandable. Otherwise bloody nosey.

Horehound · 22/03/2020 18:50

I thought a baby had died a few days ago? Or was it the babies mother?

lannister · 22/03/2020 18:51

Oh no, an 18 year old :(

WhoWants2Know · 22/03/2020 18:53

It was the baby's mother

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 22/03/2020 18:55

I have a few of the underlying conditions listed, yes.

18... 18. No words. RIP.

Why arent we testing more? DD1 friend flew back to Oz from French Alps last week, tested positive on arrival, now in quarantine. DD1 now home with us, no tests, vague symptoms, we are practising social distancing as best we can - but it's bloody hard.

Lewis Goodall - 'may come a time when it has to be done but do try and remember if you’re urging the government to close down the parks that not everyone has a garden. For many parks are the only access to green space, which has profound benefits to physical and mental health. Understandable that govt is v reluctant to close them.'

Petiolaris · 22/03/2020 19:16

They need to stop pushing this “underlying condition” thing. Everyone who dies apparently has an underlying condition. The message they’re sending to people is coronavirus only kills those who are already sick so if you’re healthy you don’t need to bother with social distancing.

IronNeonClasp · 22/03/2020 19:20

Yeah I find it really conspirital @Petiolaris

Bessica1970 · 22/03/2020 19:21

I agree - I have two of the underlying conditions, but you wouldn’t know that to look at me. I lead a full and active life, have (hopefully) another 18 years of teaching left in me and two young children to look after. I don’t want anyone writing me off just yet!

IronNeonClasp · 22/03/2020 19:22

Underlying health condition could mean anything and completely non-related... !

CBC News Alerts - 'Toronto health authorities say a man in his 70s who had travelled to the U.K. died from coronavirus Saturday. It's the city's 1st death related to COVID-19. News release:'

selfisolatingsince2007 · 22/03/2020 19:35

Just had someone we know put into an induced coma, 38, completely healthy before this. Been sick with this virus for 4 days. Getting very close to home and very scary.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:37

Sorry to hear that - hopefully they pull through.

woodencoffeetable · 22/03/2020 19:37

Underlying health condition could mean anything and completely non-related... !

exactly. I have (mild) eczema and am far sighted. those are 'underlying' conditions.

mrshoho · 22/03/2020 19:39

Can I ask our mumsnetters in Italy; Canterbury and others, did Italy take the measures we are/will be doing re special protection for specific groups who will receive letters from their healthcare professionals? I think it's about 1.5 million people here and my dh is included in this group. I'm just wondering if this is something that will work in our favour.

I'm saddened to see the terrible situation there and a prime minister who looks haunted. 😥

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:42

BBC Sport - 'Former Irish Premiership player Lee Duffy spent eight days in hospital "hooked up to oxygen" before recovering from coronavirus.

The ex-Warrenpoint and Newry City striker, 28, said he "could no longer breathe on my own, scared not knowing what was going to happen".

He later warned "not to take this lightly, it is very serious".

Warrenpoint wished Duffy a full recovery and noted that he "is a fit 28-year-old. It attacks all ages".

RTB I bought cctv cameras from Costco online this evening, I hope that helps Thanks

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:44

Sitting here in the UK i think i read the highest risk in italy are keeping in but not sure if there is a goverment run delivery service for them or if it's all on a local basis which surely struggles in the bigger towns and cities.

Horehound · 22/03/2020 19:46

I think Boris was quite clear we will go into a lockdown but it has to be at the optimal time.

Angryrant55 · 22/03/2020 19:47

Buzzfeed - 'Cabinet Ministers And Senior Aides Are Threatening "Full Scale Mutiny" If Boris Johnson Doesn't Enforce A Lockdown

There was fury across government on Sunday at people flouting the social distancing orders outlined by the prime minister.'

'Cabinet ministers and aides want the prime minister to bring in French or Italian-style lockdown measures in the next 24 hours — requiring people to demonstrate that they have a good reason to leave their homes — after seeing data that showed the UK is on a trajectory towards as many deaths per day as Italy is currently experiencing.'
