So nothing except the gym and maybe the weatherspoons has closed.

Heaving full market, shops busy.

Police say they wont be checking or enforcing anything at all.

So what was the point?

old people still wandering around going into non essential shops. Ridiculous and slightly pissing me off that the elderly aren't listening.

Instead of this continuous banging on about older people why don’t you look at the papers this morning? Picture after picture of city centres full of young people in huge groups, brandishing their drinks and gurning at the camera looking like idiots. I’m sick of this continuous ‘oldie bashing’ when the young are equally to blame. But course, many on here want to blame the elderly for all of the country’s ills.

everythingisginandroses · 21/03/2020 12:11

Wetherspoons penis beakers Grin

Redda · 21/03/2020 12:11

It's interesting looking at the cameras around the world, hardly anybody out and about MADRID

Luc1nda · 21/03/2020 12:14

We went for a walk. Smyth’s toy shop and B&Q heaving this morning. Roads quieter than normal. Park was fairly quiet but playground was busy.

Our walk was mostly a fairly quiet canal path, so we didn’t pass too many people, but most didn’t make much effort to keep a wide berth.

SouthWestmom · 21/03/2020 12:14

Don't be ridiculous Alexa. Old people are specifically identified as vulnerable so shouldn't be out doing a bit of fannying around non essential shops.
Sorry if that annoys you.

CrystalAlligator · 21/03/2020 12:16

I love how shops and bars are always ‘heaving’ in these tales :) never business as usual or a bit busy or quiet but open. Heaving 😂

Bouledeneige · 21/03/2020 12:20

Yeah I'm worried about older people bashing. They are not the ones out in pubs getting pissed, popping round to friends for coffee or chatting in the shops. 1 in 3 older people live alone and they may not have anyone to do their errands or shop. I'm sure that is all they are doing. So rather than criticise we should be offering them help to get what they need. A lot of them are scared as hell and lonely as hell.

cheeseismydownfall · 21/03/2020 12:21

Took kids for a walk in quiet countryside this morning. On my way back we stopped off to grab a few bits from a local village shop. I told the children to stay in the car (this is absolutely safe given their ages and location) because obviously (I assumed) we should be keeping the number of people going into shops at a minimum. Was disappointed at the number of families who were all piling in together. Obviously young children could not be left outside/alone, but lots of families with both parents present, teenagers etc. Why aren't they waiting outside? People are not thinking.

Bouledeneige · 21/03/2020 12:21

Quiet London suburb here. The streets were dead last night and today its quiet. I shall go for a walk soon but thats about it. The teens were here last night not off boozing.

Vargas · 21/03/2020 12:21

A friend was in Central London yesterday in the daytime (hospital appointment) and it was EMPTY - she has photos of Covent Garden that are quite spooky.

Fairly quiet round me today (SW London) and lots of stock in supermarkets according to DH. My kids are all at home, although one of them just went for a run. I'll go out for a walk in park later. My MIL is holed up at home, not planning to go out for many weeks, but a friend's father went out and about all over the place yesterday - some people can't be told.

Jux · 21/03/2020 12:24

Our town has been getting quieter and quieter over the last couple of weeks. Yesterday it was like a ghost town.

Unfortunately, dh has insisted that we continued to buy on a daily basis (so decide what''s for supper, go and buy it) so we don't have vast stocks of stuff. Luckily, dd is home from Uni and brought all her food so tons of pasta, rice and jars of basic tomato sauce.

We know our butcher gets stripped of everything every day. Some days all he's had left by the time we get there (11ish?) is bacon and a few sausages. I think our market town is surrounded by farmers with massive freezers.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 21/03/2020 12:26

There is no point in this unless its enforced. They need to do a proper lock down that yes. we will ALL hate but at least we'll get it over with. This half hearted - purgatory, half way house is just pointless.
Its so disheartening.

RazzleDazzle26 · 21/03/2020 12:26

I’m in a London borough, dd gone to her Saturday job at a large department store. She said it’s dead, she’s helped one customer all day.

She’s been called into the office and they have given her a weeks notice, she’s been on monthly renewing contracts since April 2019. They have laid off all temps.

Permanent staff think the store will close this week, maybe for good - was on the brink anyway.

This is how I feel too.

Marlox · 21/03/2020 12:31

Really busy in my town too, shops like card factory etc are busy so not just essential shops

willowpatterns · 21/03/2020 12:33

The market in our local town is on today too. I only drove past, but it was smaller than usual and looked like only the food stalls, the fresh fish van and one selling plants that were there.

Straycatstrut · 21/03/2020 12:33

Do ppl think kitchen rolls r a replacement?? Cuz they'll block the sewage system!!

People I know have said they have to use babywipes [shocked] I so hope they aren't flushing them....

Lipz · 21/03/2020 12:34

Well here in Ireland nearly everything it's closed. My neighbor's who are total arseholes, were up at 8am cutting grass and power washing their back garden they now have about 20 kids playing in there together, all close to each other, screaming like fucking banshee! And are now taking out their bbq!!! These fuckin morons bbq in all weathers, they just use umbrellas.. I can see dark clouds coming over and I'm doing a rain and storm dance !!!! I just cannot understand people's dense heads !!! Why can people not sit in their houses ? What's the problem, they'll be the first to complain if numbers rise here !!!

TheGreatWave · 21/03/2020 12:34

I popped up to my local shops, a bit strange as some of us were swerving to avoid each other, a few people in Tesco express, then the bakery and butchers were busy, I didn't bother with the bakery as it was full. The little car park was full but people wouldn't be hanging around long.

The main road was quiet (a route into town) so not sure what that is like.

NotSoGoodFaith · 21/03/2020 12:34

WTF is wrong with people?! I'm so upset about people pissing about last night in the pubs, get togethers tonight, getting eyelashes done?!

Bulb1976 · 21/03/2020 12:36

Must be a great time for busybodies Confused

Glaceon · 21/03/2020 12:37

It's literally impossible at the minute for any of us who live in town to leave our homes AND follow government guidelines.

People literally do not care.

I've told my local police force via their messenger that I WILL be reporting any pubs opening tonight and I DO expect it to be enforced or I'll be emailing every journo I can find. Already said I would send screenshots of them saying they wont be doing anything to enforce. I get the feeling I'm not talking to the same staff member though but theyve now said they will investigate any pubs and social venues but they cant stop people gathering in town or make people give others enough space.

Even though actually they can. Theyve literally been given the power to do so.

The non-essential shops will just end up being shut sooner.
I was in our local town this morning picking up my bike and food shopping and it was very quiet, apart from the toy shop (which I avoided) and supermarkets.

BackyardChickens · 21/03/2020 12:39

Surely non essential shops will be shut soon?
