@IWantT0BreakFree

If the elderly and vulnerable stay at home, they will not be at risk of any harm at all.

It is beyond me why he have not just decided to quarantine this small minority of individuals and then everyone else can carry on with life while taking sensible precautions.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 20/03/2020 20:02

They are barred in NYC now.. it will only be a matter of time before here too.

BigChocFrenzy · 20/03/2020 20:02

"It is beyond me"

It is indeed

Oh and they are not a "small" minority
Add the young with health conditions to the elderly and that's a sizeable chunk of the population at risk

OlivejuiceU2 · 20/03/2020 20:03

If people are so genuinely concerned about small businesses why don’t you just miss the appointment but still pay seeing as though it sounds as though you can afford the treatment. Better that then risk infecting then which could have much worse consequences

TeaAndDarkToast · 20/03/2020 20:04

@StormyClouds

because they could be the ones carrying it! the same with any one of us in society.

WitchesGlove · 20/03/2020 20:05

Could you get a mobile hairdresser to come to you instead?

BigChocFrenzy · 20/03/2020 20:06

Herd immunity will eventually happen, but over a longer period

The number of cases had to be slowed down,
to flatten the curve;

otherwise, the govt scientists estimated there would be hundreds of thousands of extra deaths as the NHS would have run out of ICU beds for several weeks

MissBax · 20/03/2020 20:07

Corona update: EVERYWHERE TO CLOSE, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HOUSE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

Mumsnet: 'can I go to the hairdressers/meet friends for lunch with kids/what does non essential even mean'?

The mind boggles!!!!!

StormyClouds · 20/03/2020 20:08

@BigChocFrenzy

They are not at risk if they stay at home and self-isolate. That should not stop the rest of us from getting on with our lives.

pallisers · 20/03/2020 20:08

Yes. it is beyond you. Luckily we have actual experts to advise us.

vintanner · 20/03/2020 20:09

NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOO

SilverySurfer · 20/03/2020 20:09

My estimation of the intelligence of MNers has plummeted since the onset of this crisis and I hope natural selection will do it's job over the coming weeks. Hmm

NowSissyThatWalk · 20/03/2020 20:09

This virus takes out people with nice nails and thick fucks too

Fucking hell 😂😂😂😂😂

StormyClouds · 20/03/2020 20:09

@TeaAndDarkToast

And if the people who are at risk of serious harm stay at home, carriers would only be infecting others like themselves who will get a bad cough at the worst.

SageRosemary · 20/03/2020 20:11

In Ireland the hairdressers have mostly closed since last weekend.

About three weeks ago I hear a hairdresser interviewed on the radio, she said in the past she had always come to work even when "sick" herself, she said many hairdressers don't get paid sick leave, many are self employer/hire a chair in a salon. That was enough for me to decide not to go even though my roots desperately need doing. This might be my time to go grey. And, although the salons themselves are spotlessly clean, have you ever seen a hairdresser wash his/her hands when moving between clients, one minute applying colour to one, next doing a cut/blowdry on another, then going to reception and doing a consultation with a potential customer, then going over to a colleague who arrives in with her new baby and hugs all around?

Non essential, don't go.

alexdgr8 · 20/03/2020 20:12

is stormy serious.
how many people do you think are in the vulnerable groups, inc pregnant, diabetic, anyone who had cancer, organ transplant, arthritis etc, MS, parkinsons ....heart, lung, kidney, spleen, problems...
i cant even detail them all.
many ordinary people stormy meets every day are immuno-suppressed.

short nails are best for thorough hand washing.
long / false nails seriously impede that.

we can all follow his example and get a boris style hair do.
ie nip it occasionally with a pair of shears/ nail scissors, as available.
it will become a badge of honour, shewing adherence to rules and determination to protect our neighbours, as being above vanity.

meditereb · 20/03/2020 20:12
Hmm
Tobermory · 20/03/2020 20:12

I’ll join the cacophony of outrage.
NO! Are you insane?! Have you not been watching the news over the last few days?! Of course not!

Don’t go to the hairdressers!

SageRosemary · 20/03/2020 20:12

If you want to support her, buy a voucher to use when the crisis has passed.

JustGoFurther · 20/03/2020 20:13

How many times are these idiotic questions going to be asked?

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 20/03/2020 20:13

@StormyClouds what about the people who don't know they've got an underlying condition? The women who don't know they're pregnant? People with undiagnosed issues? You happy for them to die so you can get your hair done?

JudyGemstone · 20/03/2020 20:13

Rush are doing free wash, style and blow drys for nhs staff so yeah I'm going tomorrow - not gonna waste a freebie

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 20/03/2020 20:15
