Now I really am scared

The provisions that the government are making indicate to me that either they are afraid of rioting (which occurs when a population loses faith in the government) or the Corona crisis is going to go on for at least a year.

Closing the pubs and venues has really brought it home to me how bad this is. I am self isolating, just nearing the end of my first week after social distancing for the previous two weeks, so I thought that I had come to terms with it. But it has hit me again listening to this press conference and quite frankly, I am afraid.

The more action they take the better I feel.

DivGirl · 20/03/2020 17:34

Most data shows this is likely to go on for about 18 months, in some form.

Restrictions will gradually be lifted though. Pubs and venues won't be closed for even close to that entire period. It's a scary time but all we can do is trust the experts and follow the rules. Let's hope they've got this right.

Reginabambina · 20/03/2020 17:35

Do you have any alcohol in your house? If I were you I’d just pour myself a big drink and watch a tv show. It’s not worth worrying about now.

monkeytennis97 · 20/03/2020 17:37

The more action they take the better I feel too. Monday's briefing made my blood run cold but since then I've wanted them to do more.

AmelieTaylor · 20/03/2020 17:38

I just want to bash my head against a wall - this situation was predictable. China & if that was too ‘their lifestyle, living arrangements are ‘different’ then Italy. ITALY was that not warning enough?!?! They CHOSE to let it get this bad. CHOSE

Some of us have been shouting about this for weeks - but everyone just told us not to be so ridiculous & scaremongering.

I’m pissed off. Govt/people 🤬

AmelieTaylor · 20/03/2020 17:41

@raginabambina.

No elderly family?
No one with underlying health conditions?

FFS

‘Not worth worrying about’. Only if you have no compassion for anyone.

That’s before you consider other ways people will suffer.

OhioOhioOhio · 20/03/2020 17:41

Regina

I like your advice

IrisAtwood · 20/03/2020 17:42

@Reginabambina I have just poured myself a vodka and orange and am going to binge watch Masterchef.

I also agree that we should have been taking measures before this and its only now that they are seeing the consequences that they are doing what they are.

I just feel as if it’s hitting me again, and hearing that the review is going to be monthly and schools are finished for the year has compounded it.

I think what regina means is that worry is a pointless activity. I am a very high risk group and I understood her.

‘Pour yourself a large one’

Guess we know the next thing the panic buyers will target now.

SapphireSalute · 20/03/2020 17:46

dont watch masterchef....that will piss you off even more

it was eating weird things that started this and now, thanks to peppers, you cant even eat the basics as theres non left!!!

H1978 · 20/03/2020 17:46

I breathing a sigh of relief that it has been officially announced for these places to close which like others have said should have happened a couple of weeks ago and then maybe the death toll would have been half of it is

JudyCoolibar · 20/03/2020 17:47

I don't think this has anything to do with a fear of rioting, but a lot to do with the fact that people have demonstrated that they're incapable of following sensible advice about social distancing and have still be congregating in pubs etc.

If rioting hasn't happened in other countries, there is no reason to believe it would happen here.

Crikey0000 · 20/03/2020 17:47

I think its normal for anxiety to come in waves. The information is changing so dad to think most of us will feel overwhelmed at some stage. Enjoy your vodka, I hope you have a pleasant evening Flowers

WreckTangle95 · 20/03/2020 17:47

@IrisAtwood

Are schools really finished for the rest of the year? How do you know this?

Crikey0000 · 20/03/2020 17:48

So fast!

Fizzypoo · 20/03/2020 17:49

I'm scared too.

I work with vulnerable young people in a corporate parenting capacity who have no one else. Whilst I'm WFH for most of it (and currently in isolation for a cough) I will have to go back to work and visit those who have no one else.

I won't be able to see vulnerable members of my family because of possible transmission. I am getting more and more scared.

I do realise that as I'm LA I will get paid and will not lose my job. I have a lot to be thankful for. But I really don't want to get poorly and die. I'm fairly fit but I do smoke, even if I survive covid 19 I may end up with 3 to 5 years left to live on reduced lung capacity.

lolawasashowgirl · 20/03/2020 17:50

I feel safer. I have friends who were blatantly ignoring the advice not to go the pub or the gym.

Fieldofgreycorn · 20/03/2020 17:51

Oops I’m feeling scared for the first time now. It’s just hit me how unreal this is.

Thorilicious · 20/03/2020 17:53

I'm wondering if restaurants etc may still allowed to be operated as takeaway via delivery only?

Thorilicious · 20/03/2020 18:00

Never mind, just seen they can.

Nquartz · 20/03/2020 18:04

@AmelieTaylor I'm with you, I've been worrying about this for weeks & NOW the penny has dropped with people that it's serous 🤦🏻‍♀️

GrumpyHoonMain · 20/03/2020 18:14

We can’t change anything that goes on out of our spheres of influence. Focus on you and your family. Follow NHS guidelines. Take each day at a time.

TeaAndDarkToast · 20/03/2020 18:20

Regina I like your advice too. That's what I call 'taking measures'.

I'm about to tuck into the Christmas Scotch I bought in January for this December!

BarefootHippieChick · 20/03/2020 18:24

wrecktangle Schools haven't definitely finished, just closed until further notice. If everything is clear in a few weeks they could open again in July, however, it might be pointless as summer holidays start mid July. So we're just being prepared that they could be closed for that long, but it's not a given.

In Canada, some schools are closed until September and others are opening again after Easter.
