@justchecking1

Oh fuck 😢

Where the hell do the government get the idea of "20,000" being a good outcome.

It seems impossible to me 😞

justchecking1 · 21/03/2020 21:29

20,000 would be a miracle

Number12 · 21/03/2020 21:31

My dh thinks he's going back to work in 9 days....not a chance and even if that's possible he'll be relocating to the annex which will cause some logistical issues to say the least!!

We have a public footpath on our land and if anyone deviates from it... Well I might have to order a flame thrower (joke) the number of people who think they can park up and wander onto our property... You can chain it padlock it, put signs up but people only care about themselves. We have had the farmer next to us drive his tractor in circles around trespasses, chasing them off his land.

MurrayTheMonk · 21/03/2020 21:35

I can't understand why we aren't locking down. Just can't see why we wouldn't.

Imerc · 21/03/2020 21:39

I wonder if that's what the wars on scotland were about, the rich English trying to own the land where Scots just lived and went where they pleased rent free. Murray I think it will frighten people

Givemeabreakpls · 21/03/2020 21:40

What’s coming if we don’t lockdown should frighten them more.

RedToothBrush · 21/03/2020 21:45

Faisal Islam @faisalislam
^👀

Senior French journo briefed that Macron phoned PM on Friday and said that if UK did not impose serious shutdown measures, French would have no choice but to close border to travellers from UK, & were ready to do so Friday. Says Elysee refers to UK policy as “benign neglect”^

WhyNotMe40 · 21/03/2020 21:46

Don't forget Crufts and Cheltenham races.... Absolute madness

Imerc · 21/03/2020 21:46

It is absolutely everywhere now, and if people can still go out to buy food, medicine, some cases work it will still spread be it at a slower pace. But we can lockdown ourselves without the government enforcing it. Enforcement will take away freedom of movement or escape

RedToothBrush · 21/03/2020 21:47

Just can't see why we wouldn't.

The elderly and chronically sick are expensive.

Imerc · 21/03/2020 21:48

Honestly though I want the military to pull people up having parties in my street and coughing everywhere without a tissue

WhyNotMe40 · 21/03/2020 21:49

I don't call it benign neglect. I call it reckless endangerment. The government is being willfully reckless with the population s lives. How the hell have we on this thread managed to do more accurate models and predictions ON OUR PHONES than the government has with all their expert scientists.
Disclaimer: I am a science teacher with a heavy maths background.

WhyNotMe40 · 21/03/2020 21:52

Sorry. Have had a glass (or 2 ) of wine tonight. Just can't cope anymore. And I have to go into school on Monday. Endure a staff briefing with us all crammed into a tiny staffroom. Spend all day with possibly infectious students within 2m for hours.
But I will do it if it enables essential workers to work.
And my DH is whinging about not being able to work properly as he will have the kids (including a preschooler) as I refuse to send them to childcare to catch this. He just doesn't get it...

Number12 · 21/03/2020 21:53

Government petition
Implement UK lockdown for preventing spread of COVID19

Im Really sorry I don't know how to do link on this tablet!

MurrayTheMonk · 21/03/2020 21:58

People need to be frightened. They aren't taking this seriously enough in lots of cases. Better frightened than them, or a member of their family dead.

MurrayTheMonk · 21/03/2020 22:00

I've really snapped at dd1 tonight after she snapped at me... I've apologised but it's getting to us all now...
She has twigged today that even when we have done our 14 days in there will still be nowhere to go and she still won't be Abel go see her friends so it won't make much difference to her to be officially free.

tryingtoprep · 21/03/2020 22:03

Horehound that Facebook post. These selfish ignorant people will have deaths on their conscience. How stupid are some people? Can't they work out if older people and others with underlying health conditions might need to be turned away from ICU, that means younger healthier people are catching it and getting sick enough to need intensive care.

I'm not a big fan of Macron but he's right on this. Other countries must be looking on in shock at the UK's policy. It's becoming increasingly clear it wasn't a conspiracy theory when people thought Johnson and his advisers want to kill off the elderly and people with health conditions. Utterly morally bankrupt.

MurrayTheMonk · 21/03/2020 22:04

That's good re deal with private hospitals isn't it?

tryingtoprep · 21/03/2020 22:06

Murray I'm so sorry you'll still having this problem. It's upsetting to read how abandoned your staff and vulnerable service users are at present. Their lives are as valuable as anyone else's and they deserve the care you want to give them. I wish I could think of a way to help.

Imerc · 21/03/2020 22:06

It's like, say it rips through your town and every other town in the UK, the more deadly version killing 1 in 10 any age, and you are trapped, with vast empty land in the country that you can't reach. Worst case but I'll be surprised if there isn't quarantine

WhyNotMe40 · 21/03/2020 22:07

Lmerc. I'm really struggling to see the point of some of your posts - just not getting what you're on about, sorry

Imerc · 21/03/2020 22:08

Which they should have done months ago. If the virus was only a few cases in major cities it would be understandable to close them off

Imerc · 21/03/2020 22:09

I'm saying an argument against quarantine

SunshineCake · 21/03/2020 22:14

For fucks sake Horehound why repost?Hmm.

mrshoho · 21/03/2020 22:14

I've had a glass of wine or two as well. I'm sad, worried and angry too but we just have to all do our bit now. Be sensible, protect ourselves and family. Spread the word about the need to distance. Help each other where we can. Accept the situation as we have no choice. Look after yourselves too and find ways to enjoy life as it is now. our road has set up a WhatsApp group so we look out for each other - we did this a while ago because of the crime but it is a lifeline now for some. I'm looking after my family and checking in on my elderly parents and MIL. my poor dh is working away but in a high risk vulnerable group. We will all get through it !
