The era of tourism is dead forever.

Honestly, most people I know would hop on a plane to Greece or Malta today if it was offered to them. But then most people I know think this is a lot of hysteria, and I'm being over cautious...

We'll have to see how it goes. I can't bring myself to believe it will get as bad as Italy. We don't have the same lifestyles for one, multi generations living in the same home being the norm. They have an elderly top heavy population, lots of heavy smokers. I don't think it will catch the same way here. I hope it won't.

ofwarren · 21/03/2020 16:50

@GatoradeMeBitch
I sincerely hope you are right. Italy is like Armageddon.
Those poor, poor people.

tryingtoprep · 21/03/2020 16:50

It's awful it's reached Africa. Another reason why we all should've acted faster to contain it. As the WHO kept saying. I only hope the theory about warmer weather killing it off is true. Not sure if that's still a possibility?

Why can't we can't stick to the set update time yet Italy, in a far worse situation than us (for now), manages it?

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 16:51

Apparently northern Italy doesn't have many multi generation families - its more common still in the south.

MarshaBradyo · 21/03/2020 16:51

There’s no way tourism is dead people can’t stop it

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 16:52

Warmer weather seems to slow it down not kill it. South Africa is heading to winter through.

cjt110 · 21/03/2020 16:52

Afternoon all.

Day 1 of isolation of DS and I. Husband still working as he works in retail and they haven’t closed despite being a non essential retailer.

Must say now John Lewis, Top Shop etc all closing has made me hope his work will follow suit.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 21/03/2020 16:52

Absolutely I do think we need propaganda, that is where countries like Singapore do really well. The government should be taking over social media, putting adverts on TV, there should be posters in the streets, on bus shelters et cetera so many people just do not get the message. We need to really ram it home before things get worse.

PinkyU · 21/03/2020 16:52

@GatoradeMeBitch perhaps a generation or so ago families lived together but not so much now, also the reason that Italy has an aging population is because they have access to better health services and just simply a healthier lifestyle than many other countries. Yet even with these benefits Italy is still being brought to its knees.

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 16:52

They can if countires ban international tourism.

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 16:54

Singapore is an semi dictatorship so a lot easier to do it.

MarshaBradyo · 21/03/2020 16:54

After it’s over? Why would they

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 16:54

Because it may never be over - it will remain forver mutating with regular vacines against new strains.

MarshaBradyo · 21/03/2020 16:56

I don’t think it will be that bad - vaccine like normal flu and better treatment. Fast vaccine update like normal mutating seasonal flu.

woodpigeons · 21/03/2020 16:57

In urban areas of Africa a lot of people live on top of each other, big families in one room, with no sanitation or running water.
Once the virus spreads to those areas people are likely to go back to their villages and take it there.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 21/03/2020 16:57

It's more like political campaign isn't it.
I only noticed the words on gov lectern today.

woodencoffeetable · 21/03/2020 16:58

I don't think countries will ban tourism indefinitely. it's not in their interest, it's getting money into the state koffers.

MarshaBradyo · 21/03/2020 16:59

Yes they’re happy to do the Brexit campaign can’t see why they don’t do it, although probably a bit to do with priorities atm

MarshaBradyo · 21/03/2020 17:00

Exactly people will go nuts trying to get people to travel again
Like Aus did after fires
