@Bimbleberries

I'm in exactly the same position and have decided to carry on with my ramipril. There seems to be speculation but no firm evidence of harm and there is even some thought that these drugs could conversely offer some protection.
I read this article last night which seemed to summarise the current science really well -

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults

It only says those who as adults get the flu vaccine. Both dds are eligible for the flu vaccine as am I. They need to issue advice for children, especially those who live with adults with underlying conditions.

I'm annoyed, probably irrationally so... A nice guy has bought milk, bread, toilet roll in large-ish quantities to deliver to elderly people for free. And all I'm thinking is a) that's stuff that others now can't buy/won't get delivered because you bought in bulk but mainly b) not just the bloody elderly are vulnerable!

I've had friends share posts about looking after the residents of their street over x age, while also moaning about FSM parents being "entitled" for expecting the provision given to be accessible. I know it is not older people's fault - it's not them I'm annoyed at - it's the stupid ageist world.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 21/03/2020 11:06

(Oh and no one has told me to stop my meloxicam, which I assume also counts as a NSAID/COX inhibitor)

SistemaAddict · 21/03/2020 11:10

Oh dear lord Italy. Why aren't people fucking listening?! I'm in tears watching and feeling powerless and scared. The coffins in the chapel broke me. I'm a nurse, scenes of ITU don't upset me as I see it clinically. But the coffins.

Helenj1977 · 21/03/2020 11:11

Is Boris talking today??

Moomin8 · 21/03/2020 11:15

Beauty salons around me are still open today and plan to still be open on Monday Angry some small restaurants are also still open which I assume is illegal today.

How can people be so irresponsible?

QueenofmyPrinces · 21/03/2020 11:20

A family friend of mine owns a hair salon and he has widely advertised that all NHS staff will get 50% off any haircuts or beauty treatments they have and asked that people support his business by taking him up on his offer.

I would have thought places like this will have been closed down too? They hardly provide an essential service do they?

Is this the clip they keep showing on Sky News?

It bought tears to my eyes when I watched it this morning Sad

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 21/03/2020 11:21

I've equally seen people posting our local FB group that they saw size 1 nappies (or similar) and bought them - even thought they don't use them - to give to someone who does. Just WTF?! Leave it on the shelf for that person to purchase!

We're going to end up with a very screwed up supply chain at this rate.

SunshineCake · 21/03/2020 11:22

The police have the power to arrest the people who are opening when told not too.

Horehound · 21/03/2020 11:23

@Moomin8 my friend in Barcelona just told me they said hairdressers were key workers there and they are all open although not in her region.

SistemaAddict · 21/03/2020 11:23

QueenofmyPrinces yes, it was on sky news. Ds cane in later on and asked why a reporter was out as e wet one has to stay in. If y 5 yo gets it then why can't other people.

Horehound · 21/03/2020 11:24

@BeyondMymymymyCorona how can they buy in bulk when shops have limited it to 2/3 ok any one item?

ofwarren · 21/03/2020 11:25

BREAKING: Spain reports 3,355 new cases of coronavirus and 233 new deaths, raising total to 24,926 cases and 1,326 dead t.co/47MXF0XUJ0

Moomin8 · 21/03/2020 11:26

Hairdressers are key workers? Lol I mean most people can do without a hair cut.

AWryGiraffe · 21/03/2020 11:28

Speaking of which, I need to learn how to cut my partners thick curly hair. This could be bad 😂

Lweji · 21/03/2020 11:31

@BarbedBloom

I also have rheumatoid arthritis and was told to stop naproxen and ibuprofen. It is frustrating that so many are getting such different advice

It seems like knee jerk reaction from your doctors.
The evidence is not strong. I'd say that if you have symptoms and there are alternative and good enough medicine, then switch to those.
But if you are isolating and don't show symptoms, you shouldn't need to change your medication.
Ibuprofen MAY worsen the disease, but it shouldn't increase the likelihood of getting it.

Horehound · 21/03/2020 11:31

I know. It's crazy.

My granny asked my dad if she can still go to her hairdresser and he said no. "Oh but my hair is so long!"

We ok well you'll just have to deal with that instead of the high chance of you dying Hmm

Lweji · 21/03/2020 11:32

It may be difficult for elderly people to wash and dry longer hair, but it won't grow that much over a couple of months.

HRH2020 · 21/03/2020 11:32

Oh Spain 😢

CricketCrocket · 21/03/2020 11:37

Has anyone got a breakdown of the italy vs uk death rate day by day? I’ve looked on Worldometer but they have a graph and I’d rather a chart so I can see the numbers.

Thanks.

Sunshinesky1981 · 21/03/2020 11:38

Are banks still going to open? I'm going to have to go in and get some documents out of a security box. Am dreading having to do it but am thinking if I can get it out of the way and get everything paid at the same time it means I wont need to go out again for a couple of weeks. Also will have to take my DC with me as cant leave him at home Sad

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 11:40

BBC Breaking News - 'Spain virus death toll jumps by more than 300 to 1,326 - another grim daily record for the country.'
