@TwentyViginti I have felt hot but haven't had a temperature which made me feel I didn't have it so I went out daily until Wednesday.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 21/03/2020 09:16

@Youngatheart00 all that will mean is her partner will have to self isolate as well. She won't come back to work. I have had to ask to work from home as husband is high risk and it defeated the purpose!

CharlieTangoBanana · 21/03/2020 09:20

@woodencoffeetable

My pneumonia is bacterial, I have type 2 respiratory failure and rely on BiPap ventilation to keep me alive. I had a bacterial chest infection weeks ago, was already self isolating have been doing so since beginning of February because the government were doing nothing to prevent it entering at boarders.
Normally I would have gone into hospital for IV antibiotics but there were already cases in the hospital, now that I have pneumonia there are no HDU beds.
People like me will be the collateral damage, we will die from not being able to have our healthcare needs met.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 21/03/2020 09:21

@Casino218. thank you a really interesting bc article. Fascinating how. clever this virus is and symptoms, a virologist friend told me they don’t want to kill you just recreate!

All private schools are shut near us, I know a couple of boarding schools are still going and testing before sending student’s home, if their parents are not in the UK, they are staying on site. I presume they’re buying tests.

Youngatheart00 · 21/03/2020 09:22

@Eeyoresstickhouse thanks - and to be clear I’m not expecting her to come back to work. Just for her household to isolate properly otherwise it’s a lose / lose - she’s not protected or working

Horehound · 21/03/2020 09:55

Someone on this thread or maybe the previous one had said about a good thing about getting it meant we could then go help our vulnerable parents.

WE CANT because we could still carry the virus in our hands etc.
I think it's important to note that!!

Horehound · 21/03/2020 09:55

We need them to get it before we can help :(

SistemaAddict · 21/03/2020 10:06

Morning all. Thank good schools are closed as I've received a photo today of the class all having a group hug to say goodbye. What don't people understand about social distancing?! They are all going to high school together so it's not like they are saying goodbye for ever. Ffs. It's made me so angry.

My chest is still tight and not responding to the inhalers. I am coughing less though. I shall go braless today as I don't like the restriction of the band. It's a good excuse to have a pj day Smile

My mum is feeling lonely. She wanted to drive down today just to say hello. I saw her on Tuesday when she came to collect her shopping and we stayed 3 metres apart but it's not the same is it. I usually see her several times a week. We do speak and text a lot though. I hope my feckless siblings are making more of an effort.

I need to make more bread. I should probably learn to cut thinner slices so it would last longer but there's nothing like a good doorstop of freshly baked bread with butter and jam Blush

RedToothBrush · 21/03/2020 10:07

Someone at work is self isolating for 12 weeks due to being in a higher risk group. That’s all well and good but her DH is still going to work and socialising with others, AIBU to suggest that defeats the point of the Self Isolation? I don’t want to seem bitter but my colleague is on full pay whilst I am having to take on all of her duties and work at least 4 hours unpaid overtime a day, all when she’s doing a pointless isolation.

She's taking the piss. She's not isolating.

Would any of you try to change to non-ACE-inhibitor blood pressure medication? I"m on Lisinopril. (And beta blocker atenolol). I wonder if the beta blockers could be increased instead, or a different sort.

I know current advice to GPs is not to change as there is no solid evidence that ACE inhibitors is a problem. And my GP (if I could get a phone appt, which I can't) are very hot on doing only and exactly what official guidance says, and not giving any opinion of their own. So if I want to change, I would have to be the one to press for it. I don't think there CAN be any solid evidence at this stage, and if it seems like these drugs might be a problem, then I would consider changing.

My blood pressure wasn't that high anyway, and the hassle of changing and getting used to a new regimen wouldn't be too much of an issue for me I don't think.

it's also still not clear if people who are under 70 (I'm in my 40s) with high blood pressure are supposed to isolate. I don't get a free flu jab, so I was assuming no, especially if the hypertension is well controlled by medication, but it's never been clear. I am working from home, but going out to the supermarket etc.

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/03/2020 10:12

Just had to go to the retail park for dog food. People coughing into their hands everywhere. Parents (two of them) with kids in tow, trolling them around camping shops and electrical outlets looking at tents and tvs. Its baffling.

Horehound · 21/03/2020 10:14

@Bercows oh home made bread is sooo good isn't it?!
I bought a three big thing s of yeast by accident prepping for Brexit and so I now need to start using it up. Cant wait

Beebityboo · 21/03/2020 10:15

Has anyone got any advice on how to hygienically manage bringing groceries in to the house? I am in the at risk group and we have an online shop coming later. I am terrified the virus will get into the house on one of the containers. I know that may be OTT but I can't help it so any advice would be really appreciated.

BarbedBloom · 21/03/2020 10:21

I also have rheumatoid arthritis and was told to stop naproxen and ibuprofen. It is frustrating that so many are getting such different advice

CharlieTangoBanana · 21/03/2020 10:22

@Beebityboo I had a shop delivered yesterday, everything handled with gloves, containers wiped with a weak bleach solution, all veg washed in a mild Milton solution, fridge items separated and won't be touched for 72 hours.

CharlieTangoBanana · 21/03/2020 10:23

@BarbedBloom who has told you to stop taking Naproxen and Ibuprofen?

BarbedBloom · 21/03/2020 10:24

Woken this morning by sirens. Heard sirens all day yesterday. I live opposite a hospital. Streets as busy as ever and an friend is going out shopping today (not for food) while another is having a party as the pubs are closed. It is really starting to make me angry now. I haven't left the house for 2 weeks except to go into the garden (have two high risk factors)

RedToothBrush · 21/03/2020 10:25

I'm watching the bizarre spectacle of Saturday Kitchen Live with social distancing.

"Don't worry we've done all health and safety with how close together we are"

I can't help but think it sends the wrong message ahead of mothers day that it's OK to have a meal together as long as you sit 2 metres apart!!!

BarbedBloom · 21/03/2020 10:26

@CharlieTangoBanana My GP and my rheumatologist. Had two calls. GP telling me to self isolate for 12 weeks and running through a plan. Rhuemy talking through my meds. Maybe because I have two high risk factors?

middleager · 21/03/2020 10:31

Can anyone confirm if having an asthmatic 13 yr old who has flu vaccine/nasal at the GPs would mean that I should WFH?

I have been doing so, but could get called in to work and don't want to put him at risk.

MurrayTheMonk · 21/03/2020 10:41

Yes you should. Anyone eligible for flu vaccine due to underlying health Isssues is classed as vulnerable. I think.

SunshineCake · 21/03/2020 10:44

I don't know but surely the whole family should isolate if only one member is at risk.

middleager · 21/03/2020 10:47

Thanks - the guidance just isn't clear for children.
Because we keep being told they are invincible Hmm

MurrayTheMonk · 21/03/2020 10:48

I just saw my elderly neighbour when I took the dogs very quickly into the wood..
She was sobbing. Her husband died in jan and she had been managing her grief by keeping busy... she can't do that anymore and is in the house on her own apart from two solitary walks a day.
Couldn't even hug her as 3 metres apart.
So sad :(

Then I had to sit on a log for half an hour as just feel knackered and so out of breath.

Exh just been and given the DD's macdonalds breakfast thru window. He's totally miserable too of course because he can't see the kids properly and he's bored at home.

Miserable all round today!

On the upside the milkman I engaged (but was worried about as no confirmation email) showed up this morning with milk, juice (in glass bottles like when I was a kid-love) and chocolate! (He has diversified!). So that was a cheery sight on the step this morning.

boatyardblues · 21/03/2020 11:00

I just had a cold call on my mobile about will writing services. I said “that’s a bit dark” and said we already have a will. She rang off before I could ask her to remove my number from their database. 🙄
