@RedToothBrush thank you for saying that. It’s exactly what I said to my ex who wanted to keep them in school. I have managed to persuade him to keep them off. I don’t want them exposed to more risk if we can avoid it

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 20:26

Surely everyone in italy would have had it by now if it was mass circulating before christmas. Ditto surely bejing and the rest of china would have had mass cases and tempoary hospitals needed.

Petiolaris · 20/03/2020 20:26

A soft play centre near me has advertised that they’re being forced to close their cafe but soft play wasn’t specifically mentioned so that will remain open. And to top it off they’ll continue to sell coffee in takeaway cups because cafes are allowed to do takeaways. It’s like they don’t even understand social distancing or why it needs to happen! The only thing worse is the numpties commenting that this is a great idea for a play date while the kids are off school! We need a lockdown because some people are just too stupid to stop.

Beth Rigby @bethrigby
We were expecting closure of bars/restaurants/gyms in London, but entire country? A bit of a surprise.

What drove the decision? Understand it was combo of pace of disease, mixed evidence around compliance with massage of cutting social contact and need for clarity. #Covid_19

Peter Birks @peterjbirks
1/2 I think what drove the decision was the (unspoken) awareness of the likely level of infection penetration today. Two weeks ago, infections recorded were 169. Today, 177 people are dead. That doesn't match. So, infection rate much higher two weeks ago than recorded.

2/2 But by how much? Well, if mortality rate is 1%, it likely means a massive level of under-recognition, with some 17,500 infected two weeks ago, and more than 200,000 infected today. That implies 2,000 total deaths within two weeks, and still increasing exponentially every day

Funreal will be chaotic - in europe they quick but in the uk already a backlog to clear so bodies will be pilling up unless mass graves used - where they happen quick a sudden rise doesnt still have three week old bodies to dispose off.

I wonder if for under 18 funreal it be two witnesses to allow both parents - who will infect each other if at it or not.

The UK: Home to projects made with sticky back plastic and bog rolls

Medical ventilator could be manufactured in a ‘matter of days’

A company which specialises in making home and garden appliances has designed a medical ventilator to be used in hospitals in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gtech said the ventilator could be manufactured in a “matter of days”, amid concerns that critical care facilities in the UK will come under pressure as the crisis intensifies.

Not sure funreals is a good typo.

I’m so pleased someone else has said that shops were mentioned earlier. Does anyone have a theory why? Is that what’s coming next?

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 21:04

Probally - maybe sunday to stop people rushing out at 5pm to panic buy clothes etc before an 8pm close.

Helenj1977 · 20/03/2020 21:05

I'm in bed. My throat is sore, headache and I'm hot and cold but no temp. I'm hoping it's a cold. We've been self isolating all week. My dd has been ill with what I think is a cold. I'm terrified though.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 20/03/2020 21:05

Presumably, if all other social outlets are closed people will congregate in TK Maxx or Primark? most of which now seem to have coffee shops if not inside then very close by.

Social distancing/isolation would be a fuck of a lot easier if there was nowhere to actually GO.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 20/03/2020 21:07

oh and according to DH, the Formula 1 teams are volunteering to help build ventilators. This could actually make some form of sense, amazing expertise, CAD experience, 3D printing etc etc. And many of them are based in the UK.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 20/03/2020 21:10

@yoloPenguins TkMaxx closed yesterday I think, not sure about primark

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 21:11

Suspect cafes in shops will shut.
With the wage cover I think more and more shops will shut in the coming days before the announcement.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 21:14

Primark is still open.
Somehow missed TK Maxx shutting up.

screamer1 · 20/03/2020 21:14

Can I just ask, have we shut down at an earlier stage than Italy did?

Quartz Sunday coming or Sunday past?

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 21:26

How does she know - did she get a private test.

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 21:28

Wth do I feel like every sleb is trying to sell me CV?

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 21:29

Must be sunday coming - italy had triple figures deaths when it lockdowned we only got three figures on wednesday.

Quartz2208 · 20/03/2020 21:32

Sunday coming - if the chart is accurate they were Sunday 8th and Tuesday 10th

screamer1 · 20/03/2020 21:40

So not massively far off. Why didn't the government shut down at the start of the week given what they'd seen happen in Italy? Surely doing it 3 days earlier is hardly going to make any differnce?

Unless people were more sensible here during the weeks leading up? I've been limiting social contact for weeks.
