Is there a reason why revision & exams can't be done online? Having teachers decide grades seems unfair.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 18:48

Not fair for people with poor internet access.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 18:48

BNO Newsroom - 'UPDATE: France reports 1,617 new cases of coronavirus and 78 new deaths, raising total to 12,612 cases and 450 dead.'

DrawMeARainbow · 20/03/2020 18:49

The software that would require just isn't there LuxLFC.

LuxLFC · 20/03/2020 18:49

@Angryrant55 they could easily sort access with distancing. I'd have hated my teachers deciding my grades!!

abitoflight · 20/03/2020 18:51

how would you make sure it's the pupil's own work and not that of a parent or other party of the household?

WhyNotMe40 · 20/03/2020 19:01

@LuxLFC it would be too difficult to invigilate and ensure the actual student taking the exam is not very ded answers or even the exam being taken by someone else.
To be fair, as a teacher, I've always been pretty accurate with predicted grades. Only occasionally surprised and I expect there will be provision for those who want to take an exam later in September.

WhyNotMe40 · 20/03/2020 19:02

Not being fed the answers, that should read

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 19:06

At uni I did at home exams but they were all day open book things so avoiding the need to invigilate that element.

I did do one gcse exam at home when i was ill but i several services.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/20/chinese-life-slowly-gets-back-to-normal-as-the-epidemic-subsides-coronavirus

Do you think if China starts getting back to normal ish we will start to see some movement towards people wanting lockdown. If locking down for 2 months will give us some normality for a bit at the end people would be on board

DrawMeARainbow · 20/03/2020 19:18

I think it would be reassuring. The re-opening of schools will be a big date to look forward to.

DH has well and truly proved how much of a selfish arse he is today. Leaving me fearing my life as well as my unborn baby’s (34 weeks pg with asthma). Gone to work with FIL after FIL has been displaying symptoms. Now had a text from him saying ‘we’re just nipping into Aldi if we need anything’. Yeah see if they’ve got any ventilators whilst you’re at it you daft twat! I thought today’s lockdown news would make him open his eyes a bit but I was wrong! We have been getting shopping left on the doorstep by family members which is a lot more low risk than going into the supermarket.

Even if he doesn’t go in the jam packed supermarket where every man and his dog has been today, FIL will and then will be getting back in the car with him. Fucking stupid idiots. It will take one of us dying before he takes it seriously. Can see a blazing row commencing within the hour! Told him he’s not coming back in the house if he goes in the supermarket and that he needs to start taking our health (baby and I) seriously. He really isn’t helping my stress and anxiety levels during all of thisSad

AlfieandAnnieRose · 20/03/2020 19:57

@Cherrypi libraries where I live announced this morning they were closing their doors from tonight. Not sure if that’s the same for every county but should imagine so

Other countries can learn important lessons from Italy, says Dr. Giuseppe Remuzzi, co-author of a recent paper in The Lancet about the country's dire situation. The takeaways include how to swiftly convert a general hospital into a coronavirus care unit with specially trained doctors and nurses.

"We had dermatologists, eye doctors, pathologists, learning how to assist a person with a ventilator," Remuzzi says.

Some question why Italy was caught off guard when the virus outbreak was revealed on Feb. 21.

Remuzzi says he is now hearing information about it from general practitioners. "They remember having seen very strange pneumonia, very severe, particularly in old people in December and even November," he says. "This means that the virus was circulating, at least in [the northern region of] Lombardy and before we were aware of this outbreak occurring in China."

I just saw on Worldometers that another Diamond Princess passenger has died. I can't find much info about it but apparently they were a Canadian citizen. I really didn't expect any more deaths from that ship it's been weeks and weeks Sad

MurrayTheMonk · 20/03/2020 20:04

If anyone needs a job even temporarily then please consider care... we can get your DBS back fairly quickly-there is still training and guidance for those who are new to it.
Pay is still rubbish but you get to feel great coz you're a key worker and it can be a lovely job...

Lweji · 20/03/2020 20:04

@starrysimon
Why are you still letting him in the house after being with FIL if he's been displaying symptoms, but not after the supermarket?

I'd say keep him out, or move in with someone you can trust not to endanger you.

Petiolaris · 20/03/2020 20:05

A relative works for a funeral parlour and says they’ve been told funerals may be restricted to just a minister and one witness. They’re looking into filming funerals so families can still be involved. Wondering if the U.K. is preparing for the possibility of having to follow Italy in banning funerals?

MurrayTheMonk · 20/03/2020 20:06

And honestly we are desperate...the whole system thing is breaking down. It's not as high profile as the NHS but equally as important...

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2020 20:11

Anyone spotted the fundamental flaw in the school policy BTW?

Putting the kids of the healthcare workers who are most risk of catching covid-19 in the same childcare with the kids of the essential workers who you really don't want to get ill seems an oversight.

Really you should be keeping the kids of healthcare workers separately from anyone in an infrastructure essential role...
