I won't but a lot of people are saying they are and it's still open so they are going etc.

Just for reference for the "life goes on, I need to have fun" brigade, Italy is now struggling to dispose of the dead.
Does that sound fun?

I don't suppose there's a point in trying to talk sense to people who can't read a chart or understand that seeing more people increases the risk of spreading the infection from not seeing people, and the more people you see the bigger the spread. It's not a bloody switch "oh since I have to go out anyway it doesn't matter".

Also for reference essential means things you can't do without: eating, medications, helping someone in need. You don't die if you don't do your nails, but with this virus every time you're out you can kill 2-6 people if you are infected, how cool and fun is that?
As you were...

Duchessofblandings · 20/03/2020 08:30

So many people still ignoring advice and refusing to take responsibility.
We live near a party town where I know the usual morons will be out drinking to excess and fighting this weekend.
The resulting emergency calls should be ignored or they should be charged the full cost of clearing up their self-inflicted mess. It’s infuriating at the best of times, to have to wait for hours in a genuine emergency because the system is full of drunken louts. At the moment, they should also be arrested and charged with wasting emergency service resources.
During this emergency, would apply the same criteria to grandad who slips over at the garden centre after deciding that seed potatoes are more important than saving lives or the idiot of any age who decides they’re going to go hiking in the Cairngorms in trainers with no weather forecast.

Costacoffeeplease · 20/03/2020 09:14

I’m in Portugal and all bars and restaurants are closed, so no. Some are doing a take away service

Norma27 · 20/03/2020 09:41

I think my stupid aunt will try to persuade my mum to go out tomorrow. My mum is 75, diabetic and asthmatic.
I'm thinking I will have to go and park outside my mum's house to intervene when she turns up. So bloody irresponsible.
I bumped into my aunt earlier this week when I was on the school run. I ended up shouting at her when she said she didn't care what people were saying to do.

MoonlightMistletoe · 20/03/2020 09:45

Absolutely not.

PapercraftNinja · 20/03/2020 09:48

For those saying you may as well go to the pub because you are out and about etc anyway, surely that’s more of a reason not to? If you were infected you could be spreading it to more and more people, and if you weren’t it simply increases your risk?

Roselilly36 · 20/03/2020 10:02

No one with any sense would. Stay home & safe, help elderly neighbours.

Fortyfifty · 20/03/2020 10:21

If people are doing it voluntarily and others not bothering, in a few days, those doing it voluntarily might stop bothering if they see other people out and about carrying on as normal.

A lock down needs to happen - especially with the kids finishing school today and university students traveling all over to get home - potentially spreading it more as happened in Italy.

pigsDOfly · 20/03/2020 10:54

Well, I for one will not be influenced by a load of idiots who ignore the government's advice and continue to carry on as normal.

I'm in the over 70 group and I don't want to die just yet, so no I shall continue to keep my distance because I'm not stupid.

ooooere · 20/03/2020 12:34

All my group of friends are currently in the pub along with the guy I'm seeing.
Getting drunk and then going clubbing.
If Boris doesn't lock the country down properly..god knows how many deaths

What a bunch of TWATS!!

QuimJongUn · 20/03/2020 12:47

Look before people keep shouting for lockdown you need to spare a thought for the people it's impacting

I am. I don't want them to become infected, become ill, or pass the virus on to their older/vulnerable loved ones who may die from it.

The government should be stepping in and doing more for those who are likely to lose their livelihoods, be they staff or business owners. All this hogwash about supporting local businesses - that's not for you to do. The billions of pounds the government have at their disposal should be doing it. Better still, they should enforce closures so venues can claim on their insurance.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 20/03/2020 12:55

Don't you mean the guy you were seeing? I'd dump the twat, personally.

JohnHammIsMyJamm · 20/03/2020 13:26

No, I won’t. I’m sad about it though as my local is absolutely fabulous, independently owned and run and will struggle enormously with this massive drop in income. I’d be gutted if they went bust.

Gertie75 · 20/03/2020 13:42

A bunch of our primary school parents are going after school pick up, mainly year 6's, their reasoning is that the kids have been at school together all day.

Rosehip10 · 20/03/2020 13:52

Tim Martin is an utter prick "there hasn't been much transmission in pubs - we should stay open!"

Duchessofblandings · 20/03/2020 14:27

Already knew he was a moron, Rosehip, but confirmation can't hurt.

Oh hang on, it can.

People spouting such BS should be locked up. Greedy, selfish b’stard.

Janaih · 20/03/2020 15:26

My local cafe/bar has just started selling vouchers online to be used at a later date. Great idea.

footprintsintheslow · 20/03/2020 16:14

@Janaih great idea I'll share that with local businesses here

Aragog · 20/03/2020 16:19

No. We are isolating, but we wouldn't be going anyway.

We are doing a contact free food collection from a nice restaurant on mother's Day though.

ilovecakeandwine · 20/03/2020 16:32

I know I didn't mention all work places but it's not just bars & restaurants it's impacted . Where do you think they get the alcohol from to sell ? The supply chain is huge so a lot of various jobs are impacted mine included .
Granted the government not helping or if they are starting too it's too late already .

Exactly this. I'm in hospitality and we're open, so while there's a job to go to, I have to go. To 'voluntarily quit' my job will ensure I get no help whatsoever. The fact that we're unlikely to get paid is irrelevant too. The business is going to go bust because we can't close while we have functions booked in that people flatly refuse to move, but the downturn in trade means the cash has dried up. I don't want to be at work, it's not essential, but I've been forced into a corner because rather than close all public spaces, there's just advice about avoiding them so a downturn in trade but no recourse to claim from insurances etc.
Even if they don't give any help to people like me during this time, but shut everything down we at least know where we are and can get jobs in supermarkets, care etc. But they're only going to be short term, once this is coming to a close those people will be laid off again.
Hospitality workers really are considered the lowest of the low by and large, and never has it been more apparent.

Thunderpunt · 20/03/2020 16:50

Even if the government force closures many of us still can't claim on our insurance for Business interruption because it's not an infectious disease named on the policy.
I've got more chance of claiming for Business Interruption if there's a murder or suicide on my premises.... go figure

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 17:01

Thunderpant that makes sense to me a murder etc is likely only to affect you. An infectious disease well you can see
