I won't but a lot of people are saying they are and it's still open so they are going etc.

NOPE... it's my birthday and mothers day this weekend and I'll be spending it indoors. Socially distancing just like we have been asked too!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 19/03/2020 19:21

Those of you who are wanting to report people who you see outside are describing a totalitarian state. Think about it. Yes, we all need to try to reduce the spread of the virus, and yes it is serious, but controling people's every movement is a VERY big step to take, cutting off all social contact is a VERY big step to take, with serious health implications of its own. Be careful what you ask for.
And, no, I won't be going out, I have coronavirus symptoms and will be in for at least the next 10 days.

MerryDeath · 19/03/2020 19:22

no! we did have takeaway pizza last night from our beloved local pizza place, we did it to help them not so we could eat pizza obv😇

ZooeyS · 19/03/2020 19:23

No, but I am ordering a takeaway meal from our local pub for supper on Saturday to try and show some support. Feel just dreadful for them

SquirmOfEels · 19/03/2020 19:25

I was meant to be going out for a 'last blast before the shutters come down' meal in a pub tonight. We decided instead to meet up for a walk, possibly stopping for a well-spaced open air coffee, instead

MadameF · 19/03/2020 19:26

Unless Boris closes pubs ne restos of course people will keep going. The fact he hadn't means people automatically think it's OK. In France they had to be shut for people to stop going out.

Strictly1972 · 19/03/2020 19:27

No. But many will. This is why we will end up in lockdown.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 19/03/2020 19:29

I will be going into my local independent cafe, buying some takeaway ice cream and taking it out on a walk. They need all the support they can get at this time.

ilovecakeandwine · 19/03/2020 19:29

Look before people keep shouting for lockdown you need to spare a thought for the people it's impacting. The bars and restaurants are empty some will go but most won't.
The industry is currently dire , job losses already and pay cuts . This was from a very thriving industry a few days ago and practically overnight to nothing . It's very upsetting for all involved no one can pay suppliers no one ordering stock so that's impacting everyone.
Everything is a standstill if it's not impacted your job yet it will . Unless you work for a supermarket, deliver to supermarket work for the nhs or police I'd be very surprised if your job is not at risk .

Poppydaisies · 19/03/2020 19:29

Why not? Just as likely to catch it or spread it in the absolutely packed supermarkets or at work or on the bus to work.

That's why we're supposed to avoid working in an office and only go shopping if necessary! But we obviously need to eat so can't totally avoid it.

But we CAN avoid going to the pub or restaurant!!Why increase the risk of spreading the virus by going to the Restaurant or Pub?Hmm

Poppydaisies · 19/03/2020 19:31

Yes the economic cost will be high for all of us. But isn't it worth it to save actual lives??

Lweji · 19/03/2020 19:34

Restaurants can start delivering. It's not like UberEats doesn't exist.

megletthesecond · 19/03/2020 19:35

No shops or cafes.

ilovecakeandwine · 19/03/2020 19:36

@Poppydaisies if you are asking me personally right this minute the virus is the very least of my worries .
I've been in tears today regarding this , I know health is important but eating and keeping a roof over my head takes priority .

Takeittotheboss · 19/03/2020 19:37

If the government would just get its act together and allocate an universal salary to everyone, then people wouldn't be forced into having to choose between going to work and their/other people's families health. That is current situation for everyone working in the hospitality industry as government hasn't put them in lockdown
( possibly due to insurance claims?), just left them out to dry!

ilovecakeandwine · 19/03/2020 19:38

@Lweji it's not the food I'm talking about . I work in the alcohol industry.

moita · 19/03/2020 19:39

No. Our local cafe is closed but will be baking/delivering bread. You pay over the phone then they leave it in a designated place outside your house. I'll certainly be ordering.

AgeLikeWine · 19/03/2020 19:42

No, sadly. We usually go to the pub every Friday evening, and eat out on Saturday nights, almost always at independent rather than chain restaurants, but we are taking social distancing seriously and we won’t be going anywhere for the foreseeable.

notthemum · 19/03/2020 19:49

@Happymummy.
I was completely with you, I felt for you with one wage and obviously needing to feed your child. However I'm afraid you lost me when you said you have two nail appointments and an eyebrow appointment. Surely if you're that skint you forgo your beauty appointments in order to feed your child ?

Fortyfifty · 19/03/2020 19:59

It's all very well saying you get the bus to work and have to stand beside people at the supermarket but the point is to only go where's necessary. So, you might be at more risk using the bus, you're right, and if you contract the virus and you're asymptomatic for a few days, you'd have unnecessarily passed it on to people at the pub.

Anniecott · 19/03/2020 20:00

We were going out for Mother's Day but have chosen to spend it at home instead, have also cancelled my husbands birthday plans for the beginning of April.
But I'm a hairdresser in a salon and it's as busy if not busier than Christmas at the moment, with everyone getting their done before we go into lock down and nobody can see them !!!!
So no social distancing for me, my boss will keep the salon open till the bitter end and as most of my husbands work as a self employed plumber is cancelling, I have to keep working.
