I won't but a lot of people are saying they are and it's still open so they are going etc.

Someone I know has just posted on social media about winning the pub quiz. Can't believe they are even running one.

Rosehip10 · 19/03/2020 23:24

A local sw london pub posted to come down for a few and "let's start herd immunity!!"

MrsP2015 · 19/03/2020 23:30

Drove past our local tonight (drive round for a bit just to just get out) and it was half full I couldn't believe it!

The lights were on and I thought, what's the point in opening... then I saw how busy it was- people all sat together along the back row at tables with friends opposite?!

Makes no sense.

dontaskformedicaladviceonmn · 19/03/2020 23:31

@Chinks123 @sequinednostrils that isn’t up to date because the picture has attend private gatherings in amber.
The Gov.uk advice is avoid gathering with friends and family

Glaceon · 19/03/2020 23:38

No one here seems to think anything g should change. Lots of tags on fb between people saying theyee still go g out partying. Be interesting to see how busy the pubs are tomorrow evening. My partner is going to nip to the end of the street and have a look was towns like (theres two buildings between our flat and the town hall so v close. Can see the whole of the pub part from there).

Glaceon · 19/03/2020 23:40

This is despite the two counties we border on having 26 and 27 confirmed cases.

A lot of places dont even have it or have 1 or 2 confirmed.

Sakura7 · 19/03/2020 23:40

I can't believe it's even an option in the UK. Pubs and the vast majority of restaurants here in Ireland have been closed since Sunday.

Already the UK death rate is way much, much worse than ours proportionate to population, which means the number of cases are too but the UK is not doing enough testing to show it. Sleepwalking right into disaster unfortunately.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 19/03/2020 23:42

A group of us just celebrated a friend’s birthday in a “virtual pub” on Skype.

It’s the sensible thing to do.

What pisses me off is that the tossers who think it doesn’t matter will probably be the ones that shrug it off as nothing more than a sniffle. They probably don’t take hand washing seriously either. Meanwhile they’ve spread it round the neighbourhood and killed a load of people.

LuluJakey1 · 19/03/2020 23:44

No. And nor should anyone else be going.

LuluJakey1 · 19/03/2020 23:49

They should all be closed down - pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafes, bars, micro-breweries. In addition so should libraries, art galleries, museums, gyms, soft- play, children's playgrounds, takeaways- anywhere people gather. The country seems to be full of idiots who think none of this is anything to do with them and they will be responsible for spreading this virus and causing illness and deaths.

Pilot12 · 19/03/2020 23:52

No, other than to visit the supermarket once a week we are staying in the house.

NotOneToShoutOut · 19/03/2020 23:56

Haha okay. I shall be one for 300 going in to sainsbury's but I won't go into a restaurant of 15.

LuluJakey1 · 19/03/2020 23:58

Almost everything in our very small town is open- pubs, restaurants, cafes, all shops, banks (one has closed), takeaways, soft-play, charity shops. Only the cinema has closed and the theatre (until end of March). The Saturday and Sunday market is still on- antiques, food, books, plants, cakes, jewellery, lots of things that are picked up by one person after another.
The government should shut all pubs, restaurants, cafes, non-essential shops. People should not be sitting in town squares on seats or in shopping centres.
Eldon Sq in Newcastle should be closed and the Metrocentre- they are literally infection and contamination trails as people wander from one shop to another touching things. It is madness.

No I definitely won't be going anywhere. So many businesses locally such as restaurants, pubs and play centres are trying to encourage people in. I get why and I really feel for them but it is not the right thing.

We are all going to suffer from this in some way, whether it's mentally, physically or financially. The only hope of reducing the suffering is to stop the spread of the virus.

The government need to take action. Until then people will continue going out and business won't close.

pigsDOfly · 20/03/2020 00:34

Haha okay. I shall be one for 300 going into Sainsbury's but I won't go into a restaurant of 15.

Well, unless you never shop for food you're going to have to go to a supermarket, unless you can get a delivery slot, of course.

There's absolutely no need to go to a restaurant.

That's why even counties like Spain that are in lock down are allowing people to go out to shop for food, because buying food is essential, going to bars and restaurants is not.

Universities should be closed too.
Ours has switched to online working where possible but are insisting on keeping the art and design and technical workshops and facilities open along with the libraries.
Oh and they are re-opening the catering facilities.
Looking at other Universities with similar courses, this is a recurring theme..

What are people's views on going for a picnic? I know we can socially distance ourselves whilst out but I feel guilty for going out at all. No symptoms or vulnerability

Janaih · 20/03/2020 07:41

My dds London uni told students to return to family homes asap on weds. Glad to have her home but that probably hasn't helped to stop the spread of the virus 😖

mydogisthebest · 20/03/2020 07:44

I won't but know quite a few people who will. Boris needs to tell pubs and restaurants to close

ooooere · 20/03/2020 08:02

@84TinsOfBeans I would still go for a picnic
You can keep away from other people
I think that will be ok
Have a nice time :-)

84TinsOfBeans · 20/03/2020 08:12

Thanks op. Our complication is that we have a 2 year old and we were planning on seeing my eldest daughter who lives away at uni. So we've ruled out a picnic as two year old won't distance from eldest.

But we thought we could go for a long walk with the two year old safely controlled in a back pack.

ooooere · 20/03/2020 08:20

@84TinsOfBeans ah that sounds nice.
It's meant to be sunny where I am this weekend,so hopefully will be the same for you.
