Lockdown Rumours

Anyone else bombarded by people saying we are going full lockdown at the weekend?
I can't work out if fake news or not!

OP posts:
Zaphodsotherhead · 18/03/2020 23:45

Supermarket worker here. We'll be there, behind the counter, serving the thousands of people each day who are panicking about running out of beer and fags and meanwhile spreading the virus to us with our no masks, no gloves and all for minimum wage...

Lockdown won't affect us. We're working harder than ever at the moment.

turdtimelucky · 18/03/2020 23:48

FT front page headline is something like 'Sterling hammered as London prepares to go into lockdown'.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/03/2020 23:51

Possibly a stupid question but if we go into full lockdown, my son had his special milk delivered, would thst be stopped?

Eckhart · 18/03/2020 23:51

Ha! Funny! @AngelicaKauffman

Zomblie · 18/03/2020 23:52

@Liverpoolarefab - I live in Wiltshire and routinely drive past lorries carrying tanks up and down the A303 and other main roads. We also regularly have tracked vehicles drive through the town I live in. It's literally just the army moving around as normal.

I have noticed an increase in Chinooks and Hercules flying over, but as I live near an RNAS and an RAF base I'm guessing I'm just noticing them more than usual I've learned to tune them out, even when they fly so low you can wave at the pilot

OldLace · 18/03/2020 23:52

Tonyaster and DDayDoris
I wholeheartedly agree, but they wont listen, still going to Church, still going to Starbucks, still going on the Tube, think it's all 'a ridiculous fuss'

I am also moving next month. What the jeff happens in that situation?
will my local removal co still be able to move me?
what if you've given notice / bought a flat and are due to move imminently ?

alloutoffucks · 18/03/2020 23:58

@SleepingStandingUp Yes. Food and medication is still available including deliveries. I think a lock down will make it easier to get food.

In terms of people being away from home, everyone has already been told not to make non essential journeys. So people visiting or on holiday in the UK may have problems getting back. They don't say this stuff for no reason.

alloutoffucks · 19/03/2020 00:01

In other countries though you do get some warning of hours. So the person who has her kids 50 miles away with his dad should have time to fetch them.

LittlePearl · 19/03/2020 00:02

They've discussed it tonight on BBC Newsnight.

sestras · 19/03/2020 00:05

@SleepingStandingUp my dd has prescription milk and I've been told that will be absolutely fine to get.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 19/03/2020 00:06

DS is flying back from Australia, arriving Sunday morning. If London goes into lockdown at the weekend, would DH be allowed to go and pick him up? Would the plane be allowed to land?

alloutoffucks · 19/03/2020 00:08

No idea about planes. They are saying essential flights only already.

StealthPolarBear · 19/03/2020 00:09

I work for the government. I've met Chris whitty. And I know the square root of sod all :o

DDayDoris · 19/03/2020 00:11

Did anyone listen to the guy who "Black Swan" on R4 this morning? He said that globalisaton was a phenomenon that lifted many millions out of poverty, so is a good thing. But whereas pandemics in the past arrived "on horseback" - this one has an incredible rate of spread because of the ease of fast global travel. Not horseback, or boat.

He also said this isnt' the 'big one' - it's viral - this is just a bit of payback in response to globalisation. The big one will be a bacterial plague that is resistant to antibiotics. That is really scary. This is really scary too, of course, but it's nice to think it isn; 'the big one'. Because he big one is the end of civilisation as we know it. I'm sure you all wanted to know that, but it's comforting for now.

DDayDoris · 19/03/2020 00:12

guy who wrote "Black Swan".

Saladmakesmesad · 19/03/2020 00:12

I currently have a broken ankle and the plaster cast is due to be taken off, ankle xrayed and out in a moon boot in about 20 days. So necessary treatment. I know it’s very specific but does anyone know if in a lockdown situation that kind of thing will go ahead?! I’m not in London. I feel like I can cope with being stuck in my house but not with being stuck in this damn cast for much longer. 😭

Saladmakesmesad · 19/03/2020 00:13

Sorry in TEN days, not 20. Week on Monday.

alloutoffucks · 19/03/2020 00:17

If services can cope, yes you can travel in lock downs for medical treatment

Saladmakesmesad · 19/03/2020 00:20

My husband would need to take me (and therefore bring our two children) as I can’t drive with it. There’s no public transport. They can’t shut the fracture clinic surely? People are going to keep breaking bones.

JustAnotherMumTho · 19/03/2020 00:21

Dc is due to go to his Dad's this weekend (3 miles away.) He's with me 80% of the time, if we go in to lock down, will I be able to collect him?

NanSlayer · 19/03/2020 00:23

Just remember the Military are not your friends no matter how nice they are.

Do not take loans from the government.

sensol · 19/03/2020 00:28

@Saladmakesmemad

I think the advice here would be that if the clinic is still open you would need to get a taxi. Taxis are running a reduced service here and only allowed one passenger. I think if you have a hospital letter your partner may be able to drive you but I don't know if taking the children along would be allowed. I can only speak for what is happening in my country

sensol · 19/03/2020 00:30

Planes are being allowed to land here to repatriate citizens. You may be able to collect people from the airport but only one person can go and they need to show details of the flight arrival. Here it is being recommended that people use a taxi if possible and pre booked

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 19/03/2020 00:31

salad I'm sure your dh driving you with the kids would be fine, so long as you don't all go into the hospital. It may have to be a cruel shove you out of the car and then come pick you back up when you're done. From what's been said hospital appointments that aren't cancelled are considered essential.

Sweatheart · 19/03/2020 00:32
