FFS just change the time of announcement to 5pm or something.

Most countries are doing multiple data releases a day. We can’t even manage one.

HouseElfy · 20/03/2020 14:22

My council have said there is no danger of refuse collections being affected.

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2020 14:25

Do you think its london where there is no bin collections as its getting so bad there?

No bin collections for 12 weeks would be insane. Stopping them for a couple of weeks at the height of problems would be more understandable.

tryingtoprep · 20/03/2020 14:25

Are the countries on lockdown managing to collect rubbish? Surely that's a major public health priority. Not going to help ease the spread if rubbish - possibly containing infected waste (tissues, gloves, etc) is left piling up.

Weren't the government encouraging community volunteers during this crisis? I volunteer Johnson, Cummings, and Hancock for temporary refuse collectors. About time they did something useful.

HouseElfy · 20/03/2020 14:25

I'm in London. I've been told it is fine.

JayDot500 · 20/03/2020 14:25

We are in Essex, our bins haven't been collected today despite the council saying nothing has changed 🤔

Quartz2208 · 20/03/2020 14:26

@barbedbloom that actually isnt as bad as the numbers coming out of Italy one person every 10 mins is 6 an hour so 144 per day - an awful lot but less than Italy are saying

The 27 year old does highlight the need for self isolation around pregnancy as to whether than caused anything

And with rubbish collection the article doesnt say it is stopping. I really wish the Sun/Mirror (and even some of the broadsheets) would stop the sensationalist headlines when they did headlines for Coronavirus as always the actual article reveals something far more measured.

Quartz2208 · 20/03/2020 14:26

They are stopping garden waste collection though

HouseElfy · 20/03/2020 14:26

And honestly I really think people should not scaremonger about societal breakdown, which is not happening at all in other countries at the moment.

HouseElfy · 20/03/2020 14:27

They are stopping garden waste collection though

Not exactly the end of the world that!

Quartz2208 · 20/03/2020 14:33

@HouseElfy no and its not all councils either

I really do get annoyed with the newspapers with this - I mean its one thing during normal times but this heading

BIN IT Coronavirus: Take your own rubbish to the tip, families told as bin collections cancelled in crisis

Is awful as it scares so many people and its how rumours start. Its like the we could be on lockdown for 1 to 2 years - that is not what it says it says measures will come and go over that time in order to suppress the curve.

My suspicion is they will balance out the infrastructure of the NHS with the economy and take it from there. I think under all of this what they arent saying is that these measures dont stop coronavirus deaths they stop those that occur due to health service breakdown

Coquohvan · 20/03/2020 14:34

Really need to stop scaremongering on here.

Matthew Fraser @frasermatthew
French police are getting aggressive with lockdown enforcement: 18,000 fines amounting to €2.4 million. Also arrests and detentions in the rough Paris suburb of Saint Denis, charged with “endangering the life of others”, comes with possible sentence of one year in prison.

Confuzzled123 · 20/03/2020 14:37

I work for a local authority. We are definitely prioritising bin collection.

SubjectMatterExpert · 20/03/2020 14:44

Have we got today’s UK figures yet?

Quartz2208 · 20/03/2020 14:45

@Coquohvan I dont think its just the red tops I think all news sources are guilty of it

Sunshinesky1981 · 20/03/2020 14:46

@Coquohvan Think i have found it. Increase of cases from 266 to 322 so 56 new?

Coquohvan · 20/03/2020 14:52

@Sunshinesky good oh. @Quartz2208 yes agreed though RedTops are whipping up hysteria further IMHO

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 14:53

An issue in france might be if it triggers racial tensions - france is somewhere that issue feels even more likely to explode into civil disturbences than in the uk .
