I don’t want to engage on the thread where people are claiming to have insider information about a potential London lockdown, but I do want to talk about it here.

Does anyone know (or best guess) in practical terms what that will actually mean? Closure of what exactly? Curfews? What rules are we expecting?

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 18:58

Dp is due back in the office on Monday after a week wfh.

Aibu to insist he wfh now?

ListenLinda · 18/03/2020 18:59

I can’t seem to find online whether this applies to Private Nurseries?
Although most of the staff at mine have school aged children...

Kbeeb1992 · 18/03/2020 19:04

It says no one should travel out the country unless needed, my husband works at sea and cant get to work atm, hopefully he will be able to get there soon as we rely on his wage !

ajandjjmum · 18/03/2020 19:06

Youngatheart00
I want to know. If it's complete shutdown, I shall want DD to come home - she can work from here just as well as at her flat.
If movement to a shop/office is allowed, she may prefer to stay in London.
So hard....at the end of the day it's her decision, but she's still my baby. And then there's DS stuck in Sydney (by choice!) Grin

Italy's figures aren't falling yet for several reasons
Not yet reached peak contagion because total lockdown only began 9 days ago is the main one.

MurrayTheMonk · 18/03/2020 19:11

My sister has just told me she thinks Boris is doing well and has it all planned out.
I think she might be watching different news to me Hmm

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 19:13

Can anyone tell me about airports. Do airports stay open during a lockdown? I think if there are people on holiday we would have to let them back??

Airports are going to close if there are no flights.

There are rescue flights but not a lot else. So no the airports will be barely functioning. Especially regional airports.

I think Edinburgh is closed or closing completely.

BREAKING - Britain faces a "massive" shortfall of ventilators as #COVID19 advances and failed to adequately invest in intensive care infrastructure, says the CEO of the Swiss ventilator maker Hamilton Medical.

Angryrant55 · 18/03/2020 19:24

Italy has only been on lockdown a week and a half - once we get to next monday lombardy cases should drop.

My FIL works at Newcastle airport. Been asked to take unpaid leave, no specific time frame.Sad

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 19:26

I wish they'd lockdown now. How else will we stop this.

Dp is very worried about his job. A very very big company is on the brink of collapse. Wtf happens then?

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 19:29

London Lockdown will more than likely include a curfew.

SistemaAddict · 18/03/2020 19:29

Those of us who can lock ourselves down should do so. That will help until it's enforced to stop the muppets from carrying on regardless. And now I've given myself an ear worm of the muppets doing the beautiful south 🤦‍♀️

Tell us something we hadn't worked out already.

ajandjjmum · 18/03/2020 19:38

That's helpful of the Swiss chap if he is offering to supply some. Or is he having a dig because the NHS didn't buy products from him?

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 18/03/2020 19:56

Reposting this as lost at end of last thread.

I think to cover people in crisis with no money going forward they should give money to all those who pay no tax,

Easily identifiable and quick.

Anyone who doesn't need it could opt to give the money to their local foodbank.

Otherwise desperate people will have to get food any way possible, including looting. Or starving.

What does anyone think?

Who's going out to brave the supermarkets tomorrow for essentials they haven't been able to get?

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 20:17

I think cases in Italy aren't decreasing yet partly because from incubation to death it's about 17 days?

Motorina · 18/03/2020 20:21

It took 12 days for the chinese lockdown to begin to show a reduction in new cases (and rather longer to show a drop in fatalities.

Start looking closely at Italian case numbers early next week.

ClashCityRocker · 18/03/2020 20:23

I think everyone will have their eyes on Italy's numbers from next week.

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 20:23

London lockdown bill to be pushed through tomorrow.

Friend is a police officer, they've just been told. Going to happen with days.

CharlieTangoBanana · 18/03/2020 20:25

Found you all, there have been tears tonight it all feels very bleak here I'm not feeling at all well and much as I hate going into hospital for once I wish I was there receiving IV antibiotics.
