London to be shut down.

Worried about Cornovirus 30

Steven Swinford - 'Govt advisers said they thought 'large scale rioting' over Coronavirus is unlikely and 'altruism will prevail'
They considered 4 scenarios that could trigger disorder

  • Police sickness.
  • NHS pressure.
  • Hand sanitiser shortages.
  • Govt response.
To reduce the risk of public disorder they said ministers needed to: * Provide 'clear and transparent reasons for strategies' * Set clear expectations for people's responses * Promote a 'sense of collectivism' ie 'we are all in this together'

he group concluded that several general issues apply across these interventions. It advised that in order to increase confidence in, and adherence to, the interventions, Government should: provide clear and transparent reasons for the strategies that have and have not been selected; reduce ambiguity wherever possible; and conduct rapid research into how best to help people adhere to the ..

Reduce ambiguity. Wow really!

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 12:26

Are they any cinemas left open to be shut?

Doesn't sound like non food shops are going to be shut or they would be the headline.

OP posts:
Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 12:27

And will they be forced to or just advised to not open.

Steven Swinford - 'This extraordinary table explains the rationale behind Govt's coronavirus measures.
Social distancing, isolation for those who contract virus and whole house isolation could:

  • Reduce peak demand for hospital beds by 50-70%
  • Reduce deaths by 35-50%'

Beth Rigby - 'SAGE meeting on March 16 explains a lot
1/ Case & hh isolation/social distancing of vulnerable “v unlikely to prevent critical care being overwhelmed”
— Monday PM announces general social distancing. Asks all households to stay home if anyone unwell rather than just individual.'

Beth Rigby - 'SAGE Monday 16th
3/ Agree policy of alternating btwn periods of more & less strict distancing could be effective at keeping critical care at capacity. At LEAST HALF YEAR spent under stricter social distancing measures
Q: PM said 12 weeks to turn the tide. But is it really 24?'

Can't believe some people see think self-isolation is 'giving up'.
I guess the Trumpian/Johnsonian rhetoric of fighting the virus doesn't help.
You can't defeat a virus, you can contain it until proper treatment is available.

No-one self isolates for fun FFS.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 12:31

Steven Swinford - 'These two tables show the risks and 'considerations' behind the Government's measures.
Language is very important.
Behavioural scientists worried advice to older people to socially isolate could lead to 'resentment' - said it should be framed as 'cocooning'.'

I think it comes from the fact the uk has never in living memory had to accept a form of defeat. In france and (later on) Italy ww2 was muddle through while the opressor controlled you.

Beth Rigby -'And finally SAGE Monday 16th says ‘triggers for measures to be enacted & lifted could be set at UK nations & regions’

  • Points to a London lockdown of sorts doesn’t it. Capital well ahead on the curve.'

By the way if you want lighthearted relief go on Gal Gadot's twitter and watch the pathetically cringe celeb singalong she did of John Lennon's Imagine... all those millionaire celebs self-isolating in their mansions look so eager and self-righteous as they are singing about a world without possessions... 😁

kirinm · 20/03/2020 12:40

@yamayo - have you seen the pisstake video done by the comedians? I can't remember his proper name but the comedian who changed his name to Hugo Boss? Have a look at his twitter page. It's really good.

Does anyone know when the GCSE clarification is coming out?

Thank you @HasaDigaEebowai. As dh has no symptoms would that mean he could take her but then can't as recovering from a heart attack ?

I saw that. Joe Lycett, sorry Hugo, is a genius.
There's also quite a fun remix of Ant Middleton (the SAS TV guy)'s fuck Covid 19 rant on Twitter.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 12:47

'Pubs, restaurants, gyms, leisure centres and cinemas across London will be told to close in a massive ramping up of measures to slow the coronavirus surge.

Boris Johnson chaired an emergency meeting this morning to decide what will be the most drastic action yet to try to shield the capital’s NHS from being overwhelmed by Covid-19 patients.

Shops are not expected to be in the first wave of closure, but it is understood that non-essential stores could be included if they fail to stop customers handling items that could then pass on the virus.'

OP posts:
Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 12:48

'The action will only apply to London for now because the capital has a much steeper curve in cases. It follows mounting concern that Londoners are still going out to socialise, work out and enjoy leisure centres.'

OP posts:
Yamayo · 20/03/2020 12:48

My local cinema has closed. Lots of restaurants are also running on takeaway service already.
Abel and Cole have just sent an email saying that they will keep running for existing customers but will offer a streamlined service with only a few options.
