My ASDA delivery just came, driver in an N95 mask! No bread, hot cross buns or yeast, but that's the only thing out of stock entirely. Biscuits and meat were a bit hit or miss, but we have enough.

Helenj1977 · 20/03/2020 09:42

@NapTrapped Welcome 😀 People aren't following the advice. It's a shit storm waiting to happen.

@beyond That was good. I've got another shop coming on Sunday. I anti bac it all before it goes into the kitchen.

Helenj1977 · 20/03/2020 09:43

Awful videos from Italy on the news. They're not ventilating anyone over 60 now apparently.

HouseElfy · 20/03/2020 09:44

I just went to our local convenience shop (which was mostly very well stocked) as only two things came in my sainsburys delivery this morning. In the queue people were standing so close together. I asked them all to leave more space. They ignored me.

SunshineCake · 20/03/2020 09:53

DH is telling me we don't have to stay in my bedroom and we can walk the dog avoiding people but I am not sure he is right. NHS online said it is likely I have it so to stay at home, etc. DD has a cough but is mostly in er room studying but yesterday we all sat together for lunch and dinner. I have asthma. Dh has a heart attack last month. Don't know enough I feel.

HasaDigaEebowai · 20/03/2020 09:54

The dog walking is only for those who are self isolating as a precaution (eg the elderly/pregnant), not for those self isolating because they have symptoms

Xenia · 20/03/2020 09:55

Health precautions lawyer style..... (Baker & McKenzie)

Thanks for this thread, been very helpful to keep sane. Just a question, all local small businesses like book stores and salons/nail spas are now putting notices on FB, to say we are open and asking people to come. I was wondering as these can be classes as non-essential, shouldn't this be banned? I appreciate it's very hard for self employed and small businesses, but then they could be confusing for someone who isn't clear on guidelines and social distancing. They have said they are cleaning more and washing hands but is that enough?

I think premieses which dont need a license cant be shut till the emergency legislation is passed - afterall no need to put the power in it if you already got.

Antony Slumbers - 'Tim Martin, Wetherspoons boss on #r4today saying closing pubs is over the top.'

Blood on his hands.

I’m starting to think this is the controlled spread the govt want, keeping places open and the next wave is the people who just won’t listen to advice.

miafeta · 20/03/2020 10:25

Nuclear plants should have plans for any possible situation. The one in my country sent all admin staff to work from home, tests everyone else daily and the key operational staff now lives in the plant ( for a month already, before we even had a case) completely isolated.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 10:26

Probally - i think the government thinks 400+ deaths a day is worth keeping more economic security.

' Shutting pubs over the coronavirus outbreak is "over the top" and they should stay open "for the duration", Wetherspoon boss Tim Martin tells Sky News.

The chain's chief said: "Our aim is for pubs open for the duration. This could go on for a long time.

"I think that once you shut them down it's very difficult.

"Supermarkets are very, very crowded. Pubs are much less crowded. There's hardly been any transmission of the virus within pubs and I think it's over the top to shut them.

"That's a commercial view but also a common sense view." '

OP posts:
Youngatheart00 · 20/03/2020 10:30

What an idiot. How can he possibly identify whether there has been transmission in pubs. Entirely selfish and head in sand approach.

Saucery · 20/03/2020 10:32

What a total scumbag that man is.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 10:34

I bet boris or anyone in government wont call him out if challenged by a journalist.

OP posts:
tryingtoprep · 20/03/2020 10:34

Unfortunately I think you're right Saucery Shame for all those who are following advice but are put at risk by others won't. Not everyone can control who they come into contact with. Someone too stupid or selfish to heed advice puts other household members and essential workers at increased risk. It actually puts everyone at increased risk because when the NHS is at capacity, anyone with non Covid issues - heart attacks, strokes, DVTs, Road accidents, and so on - will struggle to access treatment.

MurrayTheMonk · 20/03/2020 10:35

Testing. How and who is getting tested. I've three service users in care home with suspected cases. It's decimated my staff team due to their need to self isolate. If we can get tests then if negative they can get back to work.
I've tried all lines I can to get tests. No tests forthcoming...🤷🏽‍♀️

MurrayTheMonk · 20/03/2020 10:36

Journalists should be all over that spoons man. It's beyond a joke....

Flaxmeadow · 20/03/2020 10:38

I don't believe racism has anything at all to do with our governments approach to this situation.

Agree and the vast majority of people who are poor in this country, and in London, are white.

tryingtoprep · 20/03/2020 10:41

@MurrayTheMonk That's awful. I think I read a similar situation on another thread. Someone suggested contacting the media. Might be worth considering. Try your local newspaper as well as the nationals, or call into a talk radio show.

I bet Tim Martin will have no trouble whatsoever accessing tests and early treatment should be need it. In the meantime perhaps he would do a tour of his UK pubs. Meeting and greeting his customers. Although hang on...doesn't he live in Singapore now? Somewhere that is taking this all very seriously and has put in place some very strict proactive measures.

Offredismysister · 20/03/2020 10:43

Jesus. We’ve all seen the state of Wetherspoons toilets 😷

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 20/03/2020 10:48

Horrendously irresponsible to take that stance. I hope even Wetherspoons' customers might realise that this man is all about the profit, zero about the health of his staff and customers.
