How often is the case by area info updated?

NettleTea · 19/03/2020 19:14

I am finding it hard to believe that of the (admittedly only) 8 bookings we have on our glampingsite in April, half has responded to say they are still planning to come, and half have not yet replied.

One, when hearing the measures we have put in to avoid any F2F contact due to my daughters extremely high risk vulnerability and min 12 week isolation asked me if I could run a couple of courses for them.

I hope they do shut down because Id rather take the financial hit than worry about bringing this home to my kid

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 19:14

Peter Foster - 'But very tough choices are ahead. Docs are developing the 'three wise men' protocols, to decide when/if an older/less viable patient is taken off a ventilator to give a younger/more viable patient a shot. TOUGH DECISIONS that no person must carry alone.'

This situation is ripe for the anti nhs brigade to exploit soon.

Have we had today’s figures? My apologies if already posted I just can’t seem to see it. Thanks

Feelingsolost1 · 19/03/2020 19:24

3269 cases and 144 died in UK @MoonshineScarelet

defthand · 19/03/2020 19:25

@thelittlefox

The 4% hospitalisation rate in that report is way low according to this tweet:

Hospitalisation rate in #Italy is 58% with 8% in intensive care. Far above WHO estimates of 20% in China.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 19/03/2020 19:26

I'm worried I've got it. Had sore throat, fatigue and cough on 2 Feb that lasted about 4-5 days, and I've had a cough since then to some extent. The last couple of days the cough has been ramping up again and I'm feeling tired again today. There's a slight heavy feeling in my lungs but nothing serious. I've also got that 'off' feeling you get with other kinds of flu that's hard to describe. No fever at any point so far.

I'm exactly the same. No idea if I've got it, but have had identical symptoms for last two weeks. Of course it might be another virus. Who knows?

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 19/03/2020 19:27

I've stayed well away from people just in case, but I'd really like to know if it 'the evil virus' or not.

Quartz2208 · 19/03/2020 19:29

@defthand I suspect that it because the number of people with it is massively over 30000 rather than the hospitialisation rate being out!

I also cant work out the spreadsheet at all and I thought I was ok with charts

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 19/03/2020 19:30

I've had a heavy chest for a while - probably about a month? No cough or fever so I'm putting it down to asthma

ClientQueen · 19/03/2020 19:32

@MurrayTheMonk I am social distancing with no symptoms. By that I mean no supermarkets, no work, nothing. I go out into the garden or my car for a drive but that's it

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 19:34

That's good... my nephew in London has just told me all his mates are going down the 'spoons 🙈

thelittlefox · 19/03/2020 19:35

@defthand

Yeah, that was the point of my earlier post. We're told crap like 4% are hospitalised, but they don't think anyone will extrapolate the figures. They can't have it both ways.

Literally every figure coming out of our "officials" is demonstrably bollocks.

MoonshineScarelet · 19/03/2020 19:36

@Feelingsolost1 thank you, I almost wish I hadn’t asked, I like knowing but equally I hate seeing the rise in both figures.

Horehound · 19/03/2020 19:36

17:09HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend

We are getting ready for London to go into lock down within the next 24/72 hours, the rest of the UK will follow suit, or go into lockdown at the same time.

As part of the SLT we have informed our colleagues today.

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend
What are you talking about? Who is "we"? the company you work for or is this some "insider knowledge"? And why do you assume people know what SLT is? I mean my workplace has SLT which is site leadership team but other people would not have a clue...

If this is just you projecting then I think you need to be clear about it.

thelittlefox · 19/03/2020 19:37

The other one is the 5 day doubling rate. Pure fantasy. Do they not think anyone can do basic arithmetic? It has never been close to that.

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 19:37

Spoons are why pubs are not shut - their owner is very pro herd immunity.

ClientQueen · 19/03/2020 19:37

@MurrayTheMonk my parents are completely ignoring it
Dad "make sure you don't isolate yourself, get out for a walk etc, we are off to X seaside town today"
Me "um. That's kind of the point"
My consultant has strongly advised told me I'm incredibly high risk, stay inside, do not pass go etc as I'm neutropenic

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 19:49

'A woman on the news just said “I’m not changing my behaviour because otherwise you’re just giving in to it.” '

When we starting listening to a pub chain proprietor we really are buggered Sad

RedToothBrush · 19/03/2020 19:59

Re ventilators. This seems to seriously be a plan as talked about in the Peter Foster tweets

Peter Foster @pmdfoster
Now on building more capacity.

Some NHS Trusts - per two separate sources, one London, one Provincial - with multiple sites are reorganising 'acute' sites in order to boost capacity.

Taking ventitators from surgical theatres etc could 'double' capacity, per doc /4

BUT as we know (from Imperial Resarch) that's still going to like be below capacity when this 'storm' makes landfall. These charts do NOT make for happy reading.

BUT there is some novel thinking going on...for EG.../5

It is POSSIBLE that a mass-shooting in Las Vegas may hold the KEY to some innovative use of ventilators - it might be possible to run FOUR patients off ONE ventilator. See this paper here:

t.co/ZRLY0n9RY2 /6

You can also WATCH this video which was shared by a doctor and is doing the rounds...

Worth a watch, but basically you use a 'splitter' to use one ventilator to serve up to four patients.

Tho there are some caveats... /7

t.co/2Egk4KsLxl

- the machines are officially 'rated' for this
- the patients need to be similar size and have similar 'resistance' in lungs, since they're sharing.
- but it HAS been done before, in extremis, even if it's not been officially reviewed/tested.

But in extremis? Maybe /8

Which brings us back to another CAPACITY constraint - whether older NHS trusts can pump sufficient oxygen through their networks to cope with the extra load. Not clear. But that capacity is also being scaled up /9

And he finishes up with

But very tough choices are ahead. Docs are developing the 'three wise men' protocols, to decide when/if an older/less viable patient is taken off a ventilator to give a younger/more viable patient a shot. TOUGH DECISIONS that no person must carry alone. /19

Let's hope we don't get there - one says 'only' 20,000 extra deaths would be a 'miracle'. That's why people need to LISTEN and ACT on social distancing.

This is not just about YOU.

It's disrupting the transmission NETWORK to save OTHERS.

THINK ON. Lives are at stake

ENDS

Think the multiple ventilator thing is something that's crazy? Think again. Already being done in NYC cos of shortages...

Peter Attia @peterattiamd
Just received word from an ICU doctor at a small NY hospital: They are officially out of ventilators and are now double venting patients with COVID (using the same ventilator for 2 infected patients). Do everything possible to avoid infection.
PLEASE ISOLATE as best you can.

ClientQueen-my sister actually went to see my parents today-dad is 90 and has COPD. She isn't getting it all. And she used to be a nurse FFS.
I begged her not to go in-just see them from the door, but was ignored.

RedToothBrush · 19/03/2020 20:07

I feel like everyone who doesn't have underlying conditions and is under 55 should all just have a great big covid-19 festival party to try and catch it now and if you draw the short straw you die. Get it over done with.

Rather than this shit show of irresponsible dickhead thinking it doesn't apply to them carrying on whilst at the same time half the population gives up their life and livelihoods to try and protect the vulnerable and dragging it on for months in the process.

It's the worst of both worlds what's actually happening.

I just think what is the actual fucking point in doing this, if half the people don't think it matters.

Younger people think we'll if I do end up very ill I'll get the ventilator and my mate with get his inheritance cos his gran won't.

It's fucked in the head. The whole thing.
