I've been lurking since we were at 8 cases. Thanks for this thread.
One of many things I can't get my head around is the disconnect between reported worldwide stats and the figures our govt/cmo/whoever is using to make projections. They repeatedly say we are 4-5 weeks behind Italy, when we have always been 10-14 days behind, for example. They now say that in the UK 4% of cases require hospital care, whereas the rest of the world stats say 15-20%. They anticipate 1% CFR but in China, where the wave has passed, it's 4% CFR, and they had way more medical support than us, and way more testing.
It's just pure made-up bollocks. These things are easily checkable. I don't understand why none of the people in the room at that press conference are calling them out on this. Why do they ask questions and then not press for an answer?
I feel like I'm going mad, or my brain has melted and I'm doing all the maths wrong or something. Or is the WHO just some crank panic-mongering cult, and I didn't get the memo?
