The disease doesn't seem yet to be responding to interventions. Change your interventions?

Christopher Hope - 'PM Boris Johnson signals he might end press conferences due to need to demonstrate social distancing.'

dreadful ,dreadful press conference .No questions answered .

BJ will turn the tide in the next 12 weeks .This will be achieved by businesses standing by their employees and the gov by standing by the businesses .

People are worried about what extra measures you might introduce. Will you shut pubs and clubs within days? And businesses say the loan procedure takes to long to enable them to keep on staff.

Johnson says he is guided by the science, and by an assessment as to whether the advice is working. If people are staying away from places where they might pick up coronavirus, he will just want to say thank you.

If it is not working, “nothing is ruled out”.

ramping up tests to 250,000 a day .No time scale .No current figures

Boris asks retailers to pretty please not profiteer

awful ,terrible ,they obvs are worried and have nothing to say

"very concerted effort ,all stand together ,follow medical advice "

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

Cupofteaandtoilet · 19/03/2020 17:48

I despair. That was total shit.

QueenofmyPrinces · 19/03/2020 17:48

What actual action has BJ taken that makes him think we will see a turn around in 12 weeks?!

Why close the schools but then allow people to go wherever they want, whenever they want?

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:48

Harriet Line - 'PM suggests that the daily No 10 press conferences may have to be done remotely in the future, but pledges: “If we have to move to a more remote form of interrogation I will absolutely ensure that everybody gets to ask questions” '

He is very cosy with the Press, isn't he....

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:49

I bet the pubs are rammed on sunday for mothers day.

James Forsyth - 'Boris Johnson’s optimism bias on full display as he keeps saying that the country can turn the tide in 12 weeks if everyone follows social distancing advice. But not a huge amount of evidence to back up this more upbeat tone.'

We need a People's Press Conference on Facebook Grin

EhOh · 19/03/2020 17:50
  • Steven Swinford - 'Slightly confusing message from Boris Johnson At the beginning of his press conference 'we can turn the tide within the next 12 weeks' He subsequently said: 'I cannot tell you by the end of June we will be on a downward slope. It's possible' ' .*

The fucking tumbleweed at the end of that....
The silence was deafening.
The look on Chris wittys face.

RedToothBrush · 19/03/2020 17:50

Boris Johnson says that the disease 'does not seem yet' to be responding to the Government's interventions - isolation, social isolation etc

Why would it???!

Social distancing was only suggested as an advisory on Monday!!!

EhOh · 19/03/2020 17:51

A real utter disgrace wasn't it, like genuinely disgraceful.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 19/03/2020 17:52

No efforts where I work at all to socially distance.

I think boris is right we could end up like Italy or we could squash it like wuhan.
Obviously, it's more likely to be Italy because we cant close things down to that degree. But it's important to give some hope, I have found sir Patrick crushingly negative recently. Repeating we will be locking down for months and months and months.

Actually, even in China life is creeping back to normal!!

EhOh · 19/03/2020 17:52

The fucking spineless wanker wants to social distance because he can't answer questions put to him.

SistemaAddict · 19/03/2020 17:53

He needs to be firmer with his use of language. No more guidelines and recommendations. Make it mandatory.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 19/03/2020 17:54

I don't think it was shit.

Yes it's ridiculous to say corona isn't responding to measures taken.

But they were v positive about this testing thing.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 19/03/2020 17:54

Yy bercows.

MrsFitzwilliam · 19/03/2020 17:54

@MurrayTheMonk My husband and I are self isolating and have been for 9 days now. I am early 60's with no spleen and useless immune system plus cancer. Our son brings any supplies we need and leaves them in the back garden for us to bring in when he has left. We go out either before 6am or after 10pm for a walk, we live near country lanes and haven't been within 4 feet of a human since we decided to isolate

1happyhippie · 19/03/2020 17:55

So you close the schools but allow the bars to stay full?
Warn us that London is further ahead with a lot of cases (known cases), but keep London moving, allow people to gather for now?

There’s no urgency at all! Can they not see Italy?
Pretty worried now

AxisOfDick · 19/03/2020 17:55

Can anybody point me to the number of cases for today? It doesn’t seem to have been released?

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:55

John Johnston - 'Extraordinary press conference there. Boris Johnson starts by saying he thinks we can "send corona packing" in three months.
Then ends it by saying it "does not seem yet to be responding to our interventions" and can't say we will be on the downward slope by June.'

OP posts:
OldQueen1969 · 19/03/2020 17:55

"The virus does not seem to be responding to ....(social distancing/ isolation)" is such a stupid line. A - it's too soon to see if these measures have an effect of the transmission, and B - it makes it sound like they're negotiating with a sentient entity.....

Just had a totally bizarre image of BoJo with a whip in one hand a chair in the other promising the damn thing a treat if it falls into line......

DivisionBelles · 19/03/2020 17:55

Well that was underwhelming. Nothing new there, no concrete plans, nothing. Meanwhile the pubs, cafes and restaurants in my town when I drove past earlier were as busy as usual.

chomalungma · 19/03/2020 17:55

He is the Prime Minister.
He has the power to stop profiteering and prevent stock piling.

He should use it. He's like a teacher who expects pupils to follow the rules but doesn't enforce them.
