Pippa Crerar - 'This is Boris Johnson's worst coronavirus press conference so far. Shambolic. Tone totally wrong.
And crucially - not announcing anything new on social distancing in London when everybody is expecting it.
If lives will be saved by people following the advice, then make them.'

Charlie Cooper - 'Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty says there is “evidence that a huge proportion of people are” abiding by social distancing advice.'

It will take time for paperwork to go through a d the army to get in place. I imagine everything will be shut, and a total blanket lockdown on April 1st

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:37

Also school teachers wanted to close or at least felt at risk. Pubs and such dont want to close. People like Tim Martin are powerful and presuavive.

I can look out of my window right now and confirm that is pure horse shit.

Fairineouf · 19/03/2020 17:37

UK new infection figures not yet released.

justchecking1 · 19/03/2020 17:38

I think pubs fo want to close. Business is slow. But they want the government to order closure so they can claim on business insurance. This is the worst of both worlds for them

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:38

@Lotuscup563
N.10 said never to limits on the level of italy. Hard to row back on that.

Patrick just said 'if people follow the advice to distance then we'll be ok in London. If not then we won't be'. How about you bloody make them then you tools???
Hardly anyone I know bar those with symptoms is socially distancing. And some with symptoms aren't even doing it! You only have to look at bloody Facebook....

Meercat2 · 19/03/2020 17:40

postersadatchristmas1 I know the feeling! Same thing happened to me this morning.

Youngatheart00 · 19/03/2020 17:40

Do you think they are suppressing the UK numbers until after the press conf?

Lotuscup563 · 19/03/2020 17:40

April 1st, it will be in place by then....he can’t mention it now, too much panic buying already, these things take time unfortunately.

RedToothBrush · 19/03/2020 17:41

Friends work is organising an 'end of term' piss up tomorrow night before they all start home working from Monday.

I despair.

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:41

Through some the people you might think are ignoring it are doing the opposite and doing things like using detol to wash themself.

sadatchristmas1 I'm so sorry I wish I could help you

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 17:41

I mean quick poll, does anyone know anyone not sick/symptomatic or have someone in the family that is actually socially distancing-actually properly doing it?

Where is the evidence of this??

PleaseStopCrying · 19/03/2020 17:42

Last question - so that means he isn't going to clarify who is a key worker???

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:42

Matthew Goodwin - 'Whitty: "Most people who suffer tend to be older but this is not to say that there will not be serious cases among younger adults. Don't trivialise it. This is an issue for everybody. Young people should take this seriously"
#coronavirus.'

Our school has closed now. No warning. Just an email saying it won't be open tomorrow. Not enough staff. Only 4 hours ago they were asking for who was a key worker to figure out next week.

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:43

I know my cousin has locked her parents in and will only drop the food on the doorstep before leaving.

@MurrayTheMonk my wife and I have no symptoms and have barely gone out over the past week.

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:45

'Boris Johnson says that the disease 'does not seem yet' to be responding to the Government's interventions - isolation, social isolation etc
'I cannot tell you by the end of June we will be on a downward slope. It's possible
'I can see how to do it within the next 12 weeks' '

Until the weekend the advice was was your hands and not go on a cruise if you were under 70.

OP posts:
Youngatheart00 · 19/03/2020 17:46

They’re talking to moving the press conference to remotely....

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:46

Steven Swinford - 'Slightly confusing message from Boris Johnson
At the beginning of his press conference 'we can turn the tide within the next 12 weeks'
He subsequently said: 'I cannot tell you by the end of June we will be on a downward slope. It's possible' ' .

Well, cynic that I am, what i am taking from this is pretty much if you don't take responsibility for yourselves it's your own fault. Which is of course right and true up to a point, and I might find it palatable if they hadn't farted around for weeks, given mixed messages about everything from symptoms to transmission rates to the benefit or not of testing and the myth of herd immunity. It isn't behavioural fatigue st the root of the problem, it's poor information fatigue, which is why the young are going "meh, we'll be ok" because without clear, firm instruction, the late adolescent brain, up until one is about 25 I believe, is hard wired for self-gratification...... no insult intended to young people who are doing their bit, but getting the info across to them after weeks of our leaders appearing to be the boring old fogies who don't even know what's going down on youTube and TikTok is going to be an uphill struggle......

Sheesh.
