I know people who are still fully intending to go on pre booked foreign holidays if allowed. People are just nuts. The school closures need to go hand in hand with other measures if the government want them to make any difference

Sam Coates Sky - 'Johnson press conference

Says the UK can turn the tide in the next 12 weeks but only if we take the steps outlined.'

@justchecking1
Or perhaps not willing to lose thousands because unless they cancelled no refund.

Namechangervaver · 19/03/2020 17:20

Italy's deaths are less than yesterday's, though, so hopefully the death rate is slowing down

Sam Coates Sky - 'Johnson says that negotiations today to buy antibody test as simple as a pregnancy test to see if people have had the disease. Says the UK will buy hundreds of thousands of them.'

Johnson talking about an Antibody test as easy as a pregnancy test being a game changer as an aim.

QueenofmyPrinces · 19/03/2020 17:20

God BJ irritates me. He’s talking as though he deserves a medal of recognition because he’s suggesting we take action that actually should have been taken a long time ago.

He comes across as so patronising.

SansaSnark · 19/03/2020 17:21

Boris talking a lot about treatments, vaccines, and improving testing. His microphone quality is awful today.

In negotiations to buy an antibody test.

Apparently keeping count of cases/deaths in Lombardy has now become difficult:

“The only sure thing is that the data arriving from Lombardy are now unusable. There is a saturation effect that distorts them. For those who, like me, do this type of analysis it is better not to take them into consideration and focus on other areas of Italy. (...)

From what we know, the Lombard hospitals, now on the verge of collapse, send back many people with symptoms without taking a swab. And therefore the number of infected people is largely underestimated. But as the mayors of Bergamasco report, there is also an incorrect estimate of the deaths. Many now die at home without tampons and not in intensive care, so they are not counted as deaths for Covid-19 in official reports.”

This is a lot of repetition and waffle so far.

danni0509 · 19/03/2020 17:22

We have a holiday booked for Egypt for July.

do you think we should cancel?

Tui are offering a refund I think Dh said.

We don't know if it's to early to cancel something a few months away yet.

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:22

On tv the other day and in all the papers all the travel advice is still pay your holiday deposit you get your money back if you advised to not go.

Ffs people aren't listening, what is the point in saying this again about not going out

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 17:23

So no new measures today...

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:24

Steven Swinford - 'Message of hope from Boris Johnson as he says Britain can turn tide within 12 weeks.

  • British patient undergoing randomised trial for drugs to treat coronavirus.
  • Vaccine trials start within month.
  • Govt in negotiation to buy antibody test to tell people if they have had virus. '

I’m fine to go to Turkey in July and me and DH have accepted that it’s very unlikely to happen.

kirinm · 19/03/2020 17:24

@angry they've just stopped childcare for millions of people who work. People are losing their jobs and will lose their homes. Nothing is particularly great for anyone at the moment. If parents care more about a pre-booked holiday then getting their kids back into school that's up to them. I have sympathy for them but it certainly wouldn't be a massive priority for me.

QueenofmyPrinces · 19/03/2020 17:24

I’m due to go toTurkey.

SansaSnark · 19/03/2020 17:24

@danni0509 I would cancel personally if they are offering it.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 19/03/2020 17:25

10 year old DD has just said, he’s just saying what he said yesterday!

lubeybooby · 19/03/2020 17:25

We are so fucked. Still no enforced closure of pubs etc

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:26

@QueenofmyPrinces. But if its cancelled your money is back - if it's not but schools then open its not refund and a fine.

OP posts:
justchecking1 · 19/03/2020 17:27

Or perhaps not willing to lose thousands because unless they cancelled no refund.

Sunk costs fallacy. The money is already spent.

Probably not worth all the extra potential expense of getting stuck somewhere, medical bills, having to find a last minute flight home as borders are closing, morbidity, mortality, etc

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:27

So 3 or 4k being lost is minor.
