@kirinm
And if the holidays are not cancelled by the company but kids have to be in school that could be hundreds or thousands of pounds lost. Onbiviously unlikely they wont be cancelled but expecting people to lose things they allowed to go on without a refund after already struggling will cause a backlash. Government will be forced to either order companies to allow no penalty cancellation or wave the fines (not really acceptable to fine for something booked a year ago.)

Unless the pubs shut people wont stop going to them.

apparently ( according to thread in the Staffroom ) to Heads from DoE last night said schools providing for children of key workers etc would not close for the normal Easter holidays .

the school my son works in is staying open and will remain so during Easter holiday period ,staff covering on a rota

I worry about the most vulnerable. It's good news about jobcentre appointments being temporarily suspended. I hope similar happens for those claiming sickness benefits who haven't yet had an assessment. It might not be easy getting regular sick notes from overwhelmed GPs. I also worry about women who need to escape domestic abuse. I think there should be a lockdown (too many selfish idiots still going to pubs, etc) but with travel allowed for essential workers and emergencies like fleeing abuse.

@WhyNotMe40 it's not a council, but they're probably all going for the same line.

Don't panic buy. They say. Don't stockpile. They say. There is plenty of food. They say.

And yet.

Coronavirus: Supermarkets 'drastically' cutting product ranges]]

While executives insisted there was no shortage of food, they were struggling to restock shelves fast enough. Meanwhile online delivery services are running at "maximum capacity".

However, there were warnings that the next potential weak link in the chain is at food manufacturers themselves. If production gets hit by staff absences that will mark the beginning of a new and potentially serious supply chain problem.

"We are not there yet but that is the next big worry."

The mixed messages aren't exactly reassuring.

They are saying they will shut pubs in London and London three weeks ahead...
Woudnt it be better to shut them all over and stop the rest of the country being where London is now? Or are we still going for herd immunity?

buttonmoonb4tea · 19/03/2020 17:05

@tryingtoprep yes all work capability assessments and Personal Independence Payment assessments have been stopped

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 19/03/2020 17:09

We are getting ready for London to go into lock down within the next 24/72 hours, the rest of the UK will follow suit, or go into lockdown at the same time.

As part of the SLT we have informed our colleagues today.

kirinm · 19/03/2020 17:10

@angry I honestly don't think having a holiday booked should be the basis on extending school closures. Do you realise how many people are losing their jobs because there is no longer childcare?

kirinm · 19/03/2020 17:10

What's the SLT?

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 17:11

But then expect people to go on the holidays and rightly refuse the fines if the goverment wont allow them a refund.

Horrific news about the Italian death toll

RedToothBrush · 19/03/2020 17:17

There were people kayaking this week in various places whilst they were 'working from home'. Apparently its been incredibly busy. They've now shut waterways and banned activities because people were not taking social distancing seriously.
