Haven’t had time to read thread or properly catch up - have daily figures been released yet? If so what are they?

EightNineTen · 19/03/2020 14:47

There are a few instances of it being found in prisons now. I think the true numbers of cases must be phenomenal if it's getting into prisons where people are fairly isolated from society. I know it's through prison officers, but even so.... Just think of whst it's like in open society.

cjt110 · 19/03/2020 14:47

@croon979 not yet.

springisstillblooming · 19/03/2020 14:47

All they have said is they deny that you will not be able to leave or enter London. They have not denied that people there won't be a lockdown of people in their homes aside from going to work.

RedToothBrush · 19/03/2020 14:47

Downing Street "urges responsible reporting of what is happening and references to a "lockdown" "is not language I would use."

About this.

This is an issue of language.

The government haven't said here that lockdown won't happen. Just that the media should be careful of the language they use and not to use the term lockdown.

As far as I read this it's about trying to tone down fear and stop panic but it doesn't mean wide ranging powers to restrict activities and movement in the capital are not on the cards.

Johnson has a track record of dodging language in this way and saying black is effectively white.

I certainly do not rule out lockdown by another name. Look at what the government are doing in terms of legislation, putting the army on standby and documented planning rather than what is said by unamed sources at a media briefing....

croon979 · 19/03/2020 14:47

Thanks cjt

cjt110 · 19/03/2020 14:48

@croon979 Just for later on when the stats are announced, the cases as at 9am yesterday were: 2,626 were confirmed positive. 103 have died.

croon979 · 19/03/2020 14:49

Thanks that has saved me a job cjt

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 14:49

So we can't take the obvious step of shutting the tube to stop people dying, but we can strip away years worth of powerful legislation overnight to make it a piece of piss to section someone. Right.I see. Makes perfect sense.

cjt110 · 19/03/2020 14:50

@croon979 No probs. I was finding it hard to judge what the jump way day per day so find myself looking just before the figures what they were the day previous

Didkdt · 19/03/2020 14:51

@EightNineTen prisoners receive visitors there are other workers new inmates coming in, they aren't that isolated but numbers must be phenomenal and I find that reassuring

cjt110 · 19/03/2020 14:51

What does cutting the interest rates do in real terms?

Helenj1977 · 19/03/2020 14:52

Dps bosses son had a cough on Sunday so 14 days in. Dp won't confirm that his boss won't be in on Monday.

Ffs. This is why it's spreading. It's 14 days for a reason you twat.

Shit. That's an massive increase.

But, it's just a hoax...

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 14:55

@springisstillblooming. They also ruled out limits on how many can go out at once or requring papers to explain why you out.

Even lockdown countries essential workers are having to use pt.

Sadly think the MH act changes will be permanent.
