Horehound · 19/03/2020 14:26

Had you asked for some@BeyondMymymymyCorona hope you had a pet lol

Petiolaris · 19/03/2020 14:27

France is threatening to block us from travelling there if we don’t adopt similar lockdown measures. We’re going to be the lepers of Europe.

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 14:27

Thanks Bercows

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 14:27

I thought we'd already blocked ourselves from travelling anywhere for 30 days...

Ian Dunt - 'Govt comms over last 24 hours unforgivably fucking terrible. Allowing these stories to get out there about London going into lock-down and now countering them. As if you constructed the strategy with the intention of encouraging panic buying.'

I got a laugh this morning as the stupid relative that went to Dubai wasn't allowed in and got sent home 😂 serves them right for ignoring advice.

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 14:30

Not for the first time I wish we were in the EU now rather than out. Not for political reasons but because maybe then we'd have been more inclined for tougher measures earlier.

I'm feeling really low today.
Two more staff out sick and I don't know what to do. Genuinely panicking and I can't even go and help the staff that are there because I feel so poorly myself and I'm stuck in for another 10 days.

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 14:30

Suspect the uk will be global fortress for the next 18 months and even after that it might be more unusual to go abroad. Brexit has already put a more holiday at home attitude.

Just for later on when the stats are announced, the cases as at 9am yesterday were: 2,626 were confirmed positive. 103 have died.

EightNineTen · 19/03/2020 14:32

It sounds like mayhem in Parliament. This virus is going to rip through us. The PM is useless. The whole country should have locked down by now. London particularly.

I'm lucky, I've got savings that will just about last 12 weeks at a squeeze. Our household is in personal lockdown already.

There are far too many people not taking it seriously and spreading it.

In 3-4 weeks it's going to be devastating because of the lack of leadership.

I think they still want it to sweep through the population.

cjt110 · 19/03/2020 14:34

@Bercows Husband and I are calling it the USE-hokey-cokey. The advice continously changing re visas being issues or not, and self isolationg for 8 or 14 days...

Our hols will likely be cancelled but we will get our money back.Just will be difficult to explain to a 5 year old why he isn't going on his beloved "double decker" plane Sad

EightNineTen · 19/03/2020 14:34

That's lovely about your pet. I'm feeding a stray and have stockpiled for him!

Helenj1977 · 19/03/2020 14:34

My dp is still dur in the office on Monday, he's wfh this week. Wheres the sense in that. I've basically asked him to live somewhere else, I'm keeping germs out thanks.

Chris Mason-' Downing Street briefing just finished: there is "zero prospect of restrictions on travelling in or out of London." There are "no plans to use military personnel for public order during the Coronavirus pandemic." Troops will be deployed "as and if they are required," for tasks such as "driving oxygen tankers for the NHS." Downing Street "urges responsible reporting of what is happening and references to a "lockdown" "is not language I would use." Key workers list for those who'll be able to keep their children in a school setting: "ideally it will be published today." (ie not a cast iron commitment that it will happen today).

@Helenj1977 that's the plan at our place also but I have e-mailed the boss today to rethink...but I suspect it'll be taken out of our hands before then!

Angryrant55 · 19/03/2020 14:37

The government has firmly decided to never lock down even if 1k are dying a day.

I think the police should be given powers to detain the idiots who can't follow instructions!

cjt110 · 19/03/2020 14:39

Is the PM's/daily vriefing at 5 again today?

Christopher Hope - 'NEW The word of a single doctor will be enough to confine someone to a mental hospital against their will under the new #Coronavirus Bill.Currently the opinions of two doctors and a mental health expert are required before sectioning someone under the Mental Health Act 1983. However the Coronavirus Bill will "allow certain functions relating to the detention and treatment of patients to be satisfied by fewer doctors’ opinions or certifications, notes published by Parliament say. The Bill "will reduce the number of doctors’ opinions required and modify time limits for detention ...
"This will enable them to be admitted to hospital for treatment where there might otherwise be delay owing to shortage of qualified staff in a pandemic".'
