After being a customer for over 40 years I'm done with them. They messed up my Christmas order and now I can't even book an online slot for ever. I realise they are extra busy but I have an online order every week and even after staying up until after midnight hoping to get a slot for 3 weeks time there is still nothing. My dh and are both self isolating due to health reasons, we live in a rural village with limited bus services and no near family. Stuff you sainsburys.

covidmutualaid.org/ Find a group and ask them for help, it's what they are for.

OneHanded · 18/03/2020 02:39

At 9pm tonight the Ocado queue was 16803 and rising every refresh. I’m disabled and have no other choice but c’est la vie. High horse, get off.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 02:42

Boycott them? Who will you use. Everywhere is the same. You are being very silly.

puds11 · 18/03/2020 03:08

@Originalyellowbelly where are you in the country?

e1y1 · 18/03/2020 03:19

They're doing everything they can. As from now all their in store food counters and in store cafes are closed until further notice, so it frees up delivery space for essential food and frees up staff to help with unloading stock/stacking shelves.

They're also expanding click and collect - putting it in more places/as many stores as they can get it in, in the next couple of days.

e1y1 · 18/03/2020 03:20

Oh also over 70s and disabled/vulnerable get priority on delivery slots.

TheNestedIf · 18/03/2020 03:20

If you could drop me a pm when you find somewhere else with some slots, I'd be very grateful. Thank you.

BitchHazel · 18/03/2020 04:25

It's frustrating but everyone is in the same boat 🤷‍♀️

It's not their fault their demand for delivery has skyrocketed overnight; they cant magic up delivery slots from thin air.

CoolNoMore · 18/03/2020 04:43

They're prioritising the elderly and the disabled. Gee, what an unreasonable thing to do.

Wejustdontknow · 18/03/2020 05:09

I have an asda delivery pass so they give you the option to book a reoccurring slot, do other supermarkets not do this for regular customers?

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 18/03/2020 05:09

several advance orders

I think you might be part of the problem

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/03/2020 05:22

Are you saying you can’t change providers? As in sign up to another supermarket. I’ve just looked at Morrison’s and Asda. Both have a sign up with us page. I’m a Tesco customer. I am not having problems to this extent. There is delivery availability from 3rd April and slots some but not all days until 14th...

CoolNoMore
I am disabled. Obviously Tesco don’t know that. I fail to see how supermarkets could be prioritising the disabled. Weird comment.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/03/2020 05:26

Ah apologies. I take it back. I have googled. Very late in the night and I’m grumpy and unwell and want to be sleeping.

AwkwardSquad · 18/03/2020 05:28

Check your emails, Sainsburys is setting up special arrangements:

“We will also help elderly and vulnerable customers access food online. From Monday 23rd March, our online customers who are over 70 years of age or have a disability will have priority access to online delivery slots. We will contact these customers in the coming days with more details.”

peanut76 · 18/03/2020 05:39

I've emailed Sainsbury's for clarification on that 'From Monday 23rd March, our online customers who are over 70 years of age or have a disability will have priority access to online delivery slots.'

How do they know our ages or disabilities? You don't put that on your account details! Are they psychic? or is it just something they are saying as a platitude?

NB...I'm disabled and live with my over 70 parents (all should be self isolating) and haven't been able to get a slot at all for weeks and hardly any food in....

PhoneTwattery · 18/03/2020 05:42

@BlackForestCake

It's perfectly simple, we just need to add an extra six hours to each day, then there will be enough slots.

Hardly “perfectly simple”. Any boffin can add the slot. What about the extra vans, extra drivers, extra pickers etc...

Asda allow a recurring delivery slot on their website. To the OP, switch to Asda and shop this way in future if you rely on online delivery.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 18/03/2020 05:43

I'm not sure you realise these are unprecedented times - everything is different now. I had to go to 4 supermarkets before 9am to be able to get the things we needed - you'll have to suck it up like everyone else.

Not Sainsbury fault you live in a rural area

itsniceoopnorth · 18/03/2020 05:46

Food retailers are seeing unprecedented demand currently and are trying their best just to provide a basic service. This makes Christmas look like a wet Sunday in February. Please just be patient and keep trying. Things will get better, I promise.

KatherineJaneway · 18/03/2020 05:49

I realise they are extra busy

That is a massive understatement! They simply cannot prioritise long term customers, this surge in demand in unprecedented and I suspect they are just trying to get as much food and goods as they can to their shops and customers.

I know what a difficult time it is for them but when you are a pensioner with illnesses and limited options for getting shopping it's very frustrating when your options are stumped

There are groups popping up everywhere offering to help others. Try here: covidmutualaid.org/

If you use it, put a plea out on Facebook to all your family and friends to help. If you have none locally ask on your local Facebook group for help. There are options for you.

Curious78 · 18/03/2020 06:02

Well I know that waitrose have adjusted their times in which you can place an online order, maybe Sainsbury's have too? Please don't blame the stores for ANY of the large gaps on the shelves or long online queues.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about individuals placing online multiple orders in one hit when others are so badly struggling but I guess that about sums this world up right now.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 06:03

Ocado you have to receive the order before you do the next one. Which is good.

Danetobe · 18/03/2020 06:10

I'm sure Sainsbury's will be fine. I imagine they are having a bumper few weeks even without your custom. Shop wherever is best for you, don't show loyalty to a market player, you'll get better service and price that way.

That said, all the supermarkets seem to be suffering from selfish twats panic buying it's probably not their fault they can't fulfill your order preferences.

Whatever's happened to the blitz spirit 🤔

Randomnessembraced · 18/03/2020 06:14

Sainsburys can change their system. Ocado have and it seems they are not taking on new customers as they are overloaded. So it appears they are being “loyal” to existing customers. Granted you have to wait in an online queue with a pop up screen for about 2 hours but you can then get a slot about a week away. Have ordered with them weekly, large shops for many years. I couldn’t get my usual shop last week so had to go into a store. As we are a very big family, I got some funny looks just buying our normal weekly shop (which was all fresh). Glad Ocado have been so organised and on top of this now. I suspect online supermarkets can and will help out with elderly customers in due course. Everything is just moving so fast! We need to allow businesses time to catch up. It takes time to implement new systems.

Originalyellowbelly · 18/03/2020 06:27

Sorry for my earlier rant, I guess frustration gets to us all in extreme times, I've had a sleep and I've calmed down now. Thank you for all your suggestions, I'm going to look into them later. I realise that in the grand scheme of things my problems are quite small but I really think that the major stores could be doing more to help their customers such as rationing some of the most in demand items. I've just heard that sainsburys are starting to do this which is all well and good if people can actually get to the shops in the first place.

Anyone would think we were in the middle of a global health pandemic with lots of extra demand for grocery deliveries whilst people self isolate eh?
