Just had a chat with my Mum, she then asked if I want anything from B&Q as they are popping in there tomorrow! This is after they went shopping to Sainsburys this morning and then said they are going again on Friday.

I have said I will get any shopping they need, but they keep going out.

FFS they are both over 70 and my Dad will die if he gets the virus. They are not taking it seriously at all.

MIL off to aqua aerobics.......

Duchessofblandings · 19/03/2020 14:47

Are things like that still running Greenpop?

Good grief.

Greenpop21 · 19/03/2020 15:04

Yep. She still thinks she’s going on holiday cos nobody has told her otherwise. I despair. My life is seriously disrupted to protect her age group and she’s oblivious.

Tonyaster · 19/03/2020 15:12

Swimming pools are full of chlorine. As long as she washes her hands she'll be fine. Some of these posts are a bit hysterical.

GabsAlot · 19/03/2020 15:15

where is she going on holiday to exactly greenpop?

Duchessofblandings · 19/03/2020 15:15

Because no one asymptomatic ever touches anything in a swimming pool changing room, coughs or sneezes. Unless she’s jumping in fully clothed and going straight home wet through?

Some of these posts are a bit short-sighted.

Tonyaster · 19/03/2020 15:18

No coughs or sneezes allowed in our pool or you will be asked to leave! The pool is fine, just wash your hands before you leave and don't touch your face in the changing room

7Days · 19/03/2020 15:18

Its infuriating.

The next time one of them starts blatheting around blitz spirit, tell them they are the ones not putting up their blackout blinds at night, endangering everyone around them.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 15:19

Tony

20,000 dead in the UK will be a good result, 250-500k dead expected without a lock down.

Tonyaster · 19/03/2020 15:20

I think blitz spirit is very relevant. It meant everyone trying to stay cheerful and helping each other, which is what people are doing where I live. Nothing wrong with that at all. And they HAVE seen more disasters than we have. Fine to be sanguine about it but not blase.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 15:21

Tony that spirit it’s letting you walk into a catastrophe

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 15:23

Be resilient and stay apart.

Tonyaster · 19/03/2020 15:23

No not at all. Everyone is being very mindful where I live, but to ignore mental health is going to cause a bigger problem. There have been less than 10000 deaths worldwide so far and in the countries where this started the infection rate is dropping fast.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 15:25

Tony see the numbers below we are not China. Far from it. We haven’t locked down.

Tonyaster · 19/03/2020 15:26

Yes they are staying apart. We live a very sparsely populated area, at last count there were 2 cases in our county. Of course that will grow but by being vigilant but not scared we might come out of this ok.

IwantKandixxx · 19/03/2020 15:33

Yep - my dad who is 80 and still going about his normal every life despite me begging him to stay in as much as possible (previous heart attack, stent, copd, high blood pressure etc!).
He has lots of people who can shop for him etc and a partner he so won’t be lonely!! But he keeps saying ‘it’s just flu’
Whereas I’m self isolating with 2 toddlers and a teenager (who is vulnerable) aaaarrrrgggghhhhh
Thank goodness my mum lives in Spain and is on lockdown (she has copd too!)

PleaseStopCrying · 19/03/2020 15:33

No coughs or sneezes allowed in our pool or you will be asked to leave!

Its a bit late to ask someone to leave once they have already coughed or sneezed and thats ignoring those who show no symptoms...

Collidascope · 19/03/2020 15:34

My life is seriously disrupted to protect her age group and she’s oblivious.

Yes, exactly this. There's so much upheaval to the whole of society - people working from home, social events cancelled, businesses probably going to go bust, schools closed, exams cancelled - in order to protect this vulnerable group of people. I'm sure the vast majority of us want to do this to protect them, and I'm sure the vast majority of that vulnerable group are heeding the advice, but it is infuriating to hear how many "vulnerable" people are carrying blithely on, talking about the war and how they've "had a good life anyway" without seeming to realise they even if they're ready to die without any medical intervention, they are risking infecting other people who aren't!
Thank god, my mum, after several weeks of laughing and saying it's just the papers being dramatic, has now seen sense. Still had to suggest she stop daily popping to the shop this morning though Confused

Tonyaster · 19/03/2020 15:35

They can sneeze in the pool - the chlorine kills the virus. As long as you stay away from people in the changing room and the cougher covers their mouth, and then you wash your hands, contracting the virus is unlikely.

7Days · 19/03/2020 15:35

Here in Ireland it is made very very clear that the decisions each individual makes TODAY will affect how the hospitals look in a fortnight.

Do they want to be the ones breaking blackout knowing the bombers are coming in 2 weeks time?

Duchessofblandings · 19/03/2020 15:36

Or, better still, stay at home.

LovePoppy · 19/03/2020 15:36

@tonyaster There have been less than 10000 deaths worldwide so far and in the countries where this started the infection rate is dropping fast.

....Please, tell me why you think this is happening if it’s not because of isolation and lock down?

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 15:37

Tony it’s not enough. You leave it on surfaces.

middleager · 19/03/2020 15:37

Great post 7Days

Borisdaspide · 19/03/2020 15:37

You know blitz spirit was mostly a myth, one that's now being thoroughly misremembered by people who were small children in the war? Actual wartime effort would be complying with a massive restriction of civil liberties!
