Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

Oil and Gas industry - we are screwed, just been through 4 years of redundancies too and things were finally looking brighter

Hadenoughofitall441 · 17/03/2020 20:58

I work in clothing retail, we are taking a hit, already cancelled some shifts. But our company is generally okay. I’m still getting the hours I need so I’m lukcy but I’ve been ther for 11 years so I’m like a piece of furniture, my mum works in food retail and her shop is raking it in....

Ncsecond · 17/03/2020 20:58

Military wife here! I think we should be fine under Boris!

JudyGemstone · 17/03/2020 20:59

NHS Psychotherapist - definitely not going anywhere 🙏🏼 although may be deployed onto the wards at some point.

I may have to pay for my own Xmas work meal and the like but am grateful to be in statutory services these days!

SauvignonBlanche · 17/03/2020 20:59

Think my job’s very safe, aren’t I lucky?
NHS nurse Hmm

MrsJBaptiste · 17/03/2020 21:00

I work in a University and am the only person there to do my job. If I leave they'll be screwed not vice versa.

DH (the hugher earner) works in probably the worst industrybto be in at the moment. We're worried.

Janleverton · 17/03/2020 21:02

Work for local government but a statutory function. Slightly vulnerable in relation to property market folding, but what tends to happen is that staff who leave aren’t replaced in times of hardship and no agency staff, rather than job losses.

Dh works in a local business that might be vulnerable - Essential service industry rather than a retail business. Also setting up his own internet business. I think he’ll be ok. But if not, my salary can cover us.

Aware that v fortunate really in comparison with many.

cushioncovers · 17/03/2020 21:04

Nhs lab based here so carrying on as normal at the moment. Got job security unless society breaks down completely. Might get deployed to a different department or area but I accept that may be necessary.

PurpleFlower1983 · 17/03/2020 21:05

Teacher here, husband works in theatre but was due to leave anyway to be at home more. Loads of his friends are out of work today.

Doilooklikeatourist · 17/03/2020 21:05

Self employed , run a B & B and cafe ... we’re doomed

FunnysInLaJardin · 17/03/2020 21:06

corona it feels as though we are only just getting back on our feet after 2008 and wages finally recovering.

My hope is that it is short lived. The money is still in the system for now and so when its over hopefully there will be a surge. Provided we keep our jobs for that long.....

copycopypaste · 17/03/2020 21:07

I'm about as comfortable as I can be re my job. The company I work for supplies IT solutions to other companies, one of the biggest being the NHS. I also work from home anyway so staying away from people is my norm. I can't begin to imagine how worrying it must be if you've got jobs and dc to worry about (my dc is 12 so can amuse herself for the vast majority of the time)

MrsSnitchnose · 17/03/2020 21:08

School science technician. I'll be keeping going until when/if we close. It will also be me that will be going in if a tech is needed for skeleton staff.

Presuming/hoping that means I'm as secure as teachers

WyfOfBathe · 17/03/2020 21:08

DH and I are both teachers, so at least that is secure.

DH's niece is staying with us and the small independent cafe she normally works at has closed so she's not getting paid. I just hope it weathers the storm and she'll have a job to go back to.

Sleepycat91 · 17/03/2020 21:08

I work for the emergency services, currently on mat leave and its a sigh of relief i dont have to worry about no job to go back too

LadyLovelyLockz · 17/03/2020 21:09

Higher education. Project management. We've moved fully to online delivery and working from home. I think things will be ok but we have changed our mind about putting our house on the market and are sticking with our tiny starter house for the time being!!

Useruseruserusee · 17/03/2020 21:10

DH and I are both teachers and feel very lucky to have job and pay stability at the moment.

My BIL personally ships expensive goods via airplane around the world to clients of his company. He does all the customs paperwork and flies with the goods. It’s worrying.

foodtoorder · 17/03/2020 21:10

My dh works for a social housing group helping people sort their benefits and income, he will be very safe presently they are busier than ever and planning action for welfare support for the self isolating groups to ensure they are well supported practically too.
I am a nurse so safe also.
So sorry for anyone going through anxious times with this situation.

With all the larger stores struggling to keep up with demand I hope all the smaller corner shops do well out of it too.

LMW1990 · 17/03/2020 21:11

NHS admin and also freelance medical admin. Pretty safe. It's hell on earth at the moment but I'm counting my lucky stars that I will be paid at least, even if I have to be off and in isolation.

secretnurse · 17/03/2020 21:12

I'm a senior nurse in emergency care, I'm not concerned about my job's future but I am a little concerned about what I'm bringing home to my family! DH is in IT and his office have made arrangements for everyone to work from home.

MintChocAddict · 17/03/2020 21:14

Education and NHS here so realising we're incredibly lucky to have job security.

FortunesFave · 17/03/2020 21:15

I am a freelance copywriter. Most of my clients are tech industry. Currently I have more work than ever. Most of my work is web content for software firms.

I think ALL industries will be affected to some degree but others will feel the effects faster. Most of the software I work on is cloud based...there's no physical product so we're not relying on factories staying open...but then the people that buy the software do sell physical items sometimes.

Not all of them though.

It's very uncertain for everyone.

coronamoana · 17/03/2020 21:15

🤞 fingers!

Ladyinamask · 17/03/2020 21:16

NHS nurse with intensive care training and experience. I currently don't work In intensive care but looks like I am about to be sent straight back there!
So I may not be doing the job I want to be In a few weeks but I probably have security ( if I can survive it).

Goonergirl14 · 17/03/2020 21:16

I am Civil Service, it's been crazy today, thankful I am lucky to have a secure job but feel hopeful that I cannot help the public more..
