Is anyone in a job where they are not concerned about it’s future?

Just curious really.
What jobs are going to experience relatively little interruption or at least be assured of a role to return to...
NHS staff (thank you thank you)
Teachers/other school staff (thank you also)
People working for supermarkets? (Thank you too!)
Manufacturers of toilet paper???

What industries are going to fare best through this?

DH is in the entertainment industry so we’re probably screwed.

Administrator for a university here in the UK who are taking all the right steps to ensure that those teams who need to be able to work from home during this period can do so. I cycle to work so am not concerned about possible impacts on public transport. DH works for a small lical-ish IT company and already works from home on occasion. He's extra busy at the moment helping customers set up home working systems, in addition to his normal work!

coronamoana · 17/03/2020 20:50

It doesn't help that our economy hasn't really recovered from 2008 & interest rates are already low.

We were planning to go on the market in the next few months but not now. Doesn't mean others won't though.

Sparklingbells · 17/03/2020 20:50

Im a sahm and dh works for pot noodle (office based and on the tools). Business is booming atm apparently and all planned maintenance and shutdowns have been cancelled to keep up with demand.

JorisBonson · 17/03/2020 20:50

I'm a police officer so if anything I'll just be busier.

Gibbus · 17/03/2020 20:50

I work in logistics, planning the transportation of goods into supermarket depots. Last week was busier than any week we have had, especially the toilet roll side.

My OH works for a laundry company that services hospital bedding/scrubs etc. They're expecting an increase.

BlimeyCalmDown · 17/03/2020 20:51

@Nofoolfornoone No thankfully, not yet anyway but could be I guess.

ItWasntMyFault · 17/03/2020 20:51

Housing Officer so should be fine

Speminalium · 17/03/2020 20:51

Energy generation, very large power station. We still need it, whatever!

usernotfound0000 · 17/03/2020 20:52

University admin here so pretty safe. DH is in IT, his business mostly work remotely anyway and just need an internet connection, and they provide services to the finance industry so likely to be ok.

gingerninja99 · 17/03/2020 20:52

I'm in the civil service and although my job will not be affected by coronavirus my job is already at risk due to cuts within the department I work for, it just may be delayed due to coronavirus

Mumof2bears · 17/03/2020 20:52

I really feel for those people whose jobs are under threat, those who are very reliant on nursery/other childcare, and of course those healthcare workers who will be working v. long hours and risk exposure to COVID-19 over the next few months.

georgialondon · 17/03/2020 20:53

Central government. Feel thankful that we'll be fine.

Arrowfanatic · 17/03/2020 20:53

Housing Association, as far as I know we'll be ok as social housing will always be needed. But I'm still nervous as I've only been there 5 months so if there are cuts it'll be me.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 17/03/2020 20:54

Nhs for me too, DH is a structural engineer for farm sheds so should Be ok albeit maybe a little quieter next year. P

Carrie7469 · 17/03/2020 20:54

Civil service

maddiemookins16mum · 17/03/2020 20:55

Tax. We hit our busiest time in about 3 weeks.
Used to work in travel, never thought I’d be pleased not to.

coronamoana · 17/03/2020 20:55

3 of my colleagues children lost their jobs today pr, entertainment & sound technician. Its awful.

islandislandisland · 17/03/2020 20:55

I work for a local authority and am no more or less worried about redundancy than I always am (we are in fact mid 'restructure' at the moment) if anything I'm hoping they might take pity on us because of all this and postpone it.

Cary2012 · 17/03/2020 20:55

Teacher here, so whilst I think I'll be off work due to the inevitable closures, I'll have a job to return to.
Currently working, despite lots of staff self isolating. I'll work until we close.

lovemydog301 · 17/03/2020 20:55

Mine shouldn't be too bad; I'm a civil servant.

DH is in airline industry, so screwed.

Meerschweinchen1990 · 17/03/2020 20:55

Nhs admin so should be ok. Even if my actual job doesn’t take precedence I’m sure I can be utilised to cover sickness for more important non clinical roles

CoronaIsComing · 17/03/2020 20:56

Specialist HLTA on a permanent contract. DH is a regional manager but in the food industry which seems to be already experiencing a boom at least until everyone runs out of money!

littlecontis · 17/03/2020 20:56

We both work in financial services, not sure how secure our jobs are tbh...

WeArnottamused · 17/03/2020 20:57

DH is emergency services, we have 3 vulnerable’s in the house, so I’m earning my carers’ allowance!

Yahboosnubsme · 17/03/2020 20:57

We're in finance and IT, quasi public sector started working from home last week and been told to do so indefinitely. Jobs seem reasonably secure.

However, the children are currently still at nursery, but if it closes things might get tricky as grandparents over 70, so they wouldn't be able to step in for us as they usually do.
