... I.e. after BJ announcement to stop non essential travel and contact?

For me, traffic was the same, attitudes are not changing. Eg my colleague “but it’s ok to take my mum shopping to a busy shopping centre this weekend isn’t it?”

Are the over 70s (IMHO shlould be over 60s) being more careful?

I don’t feel like people are taking this seriously, yet in today’s briefing, BJ obviously assumes it’s going to reduce cases.

I’ve had several cancellation emails from eg daughter’s ballet class, theatre booking. Also had some emails from other classes saying they are carrying on but reduced numbers/extra precautions Hmm

LovelyBitOfSquirrelJackie · 17/03/2020 17:55

There are definitely fewer people walking the streets in my area today.

Aaahhhbump · 17/03/2020 17:55

My eldest is currently doing her karate class via zoom app.

Some reassuring responses👍

I think folk are desperate to get out before the dreaded lock down comes.

ScouseMar · 17/03/2020 18:00

Our local tourist board/ organisation is today posting on Social media all the attractions, restaurants and bars that are still open and even a suggested itinerary for a day out in our city at places that are open but 'doing lots of cleaning'.

Well it’s very quiet in London. Waterloo Station like it normally is at about 11pm- but at peak of rush hour.

Autumn2019 · 17/03/2020 18:01

My DD's playgroups have all been suspended and people are panick buying even more.

Punxsutawney · 17/03/2020 18:02

Mother in law with a cough and lung condition was off to bingo as she had some discount vouchers.

Bubblysqueak · 17/03/2020 18:02

We've had 1/4 of children off school today and no traffic on school run or on the way to work.

Autumn2019 · 17/03/2020 18:02

panic*

Talia99 · 17/03/2020 18:02

Fewer people in town but the chuggers are still out in force.

WhatHaveIFound · 17/03/2020 18:02

All the council galleries, museums & leisure centres are closing in my city (until the end of April). I've had two events cancelled in the last few hours.

My gym is still open but i decided on fresh air exercise today instead. Out and about it was quiet though as was the DCs train to school.

Am desperately trying to persuade my elderly mum not to leave the house as my dad is in the high risk group.

TheSparklyPussycat · 17/03/2020 18:03

You seem to think everyone over 70 is supposed to self isolate. This is not true.

Talia99 · 17/03/2020 18:03

Cinemas now closed (I’m on the cineworld mailing list)

Youngatheart00 · 17/03/2020 18:03

City of London eerily quiet

Zacharyezrarawlings · 17/03/2020 18:04

really quiet on the roads around me. local co-op was busier than usual though. Que waiting for the chemist to open at 8.50 am.
Other than that it has been pretty much beisness as usual for me (NHS clinician)

asmuchuseas · 17/03/2020 18:04

I went to go and stock up on stuff for the kids to snack on and the atmosphere was weird. Everyone was rushing about, grabbing what they could. Supermarket was bare, the car park was mayhem like you'd expect it to be on Xmas eve. Our local petrol station has run out of petrol and the school has closed.

Applejaxx · 17/03/2020 18:04

Roads quieter than usual here, but not as quiet as I thought they'd be. I was amazed at the number of elderly people I saw out and about.

Fatted · 17/03/2020 18:06

Supermarket was rammed full. Mainly of older people. Work has been the same as usual. Lots of people ringing up to see if court is still open. Traffic definitely quieter. School run quieter as well.

undead · 17/03/2020 18:06

I went to city centre and it was as busy as usual. Wetherspoons looked emptier than usual. I took three busses and they were pretty empty.

Everywhere is very quiet around here. Gym empty this morning. Less cars on the road. I think people are being more careful.
