... I.e. after BJ announcement to stop non essential travel and contact?

For me, traffic was the same, attitudes are not changing. Eg my colleague “but it’s ok to take my mum shopping to a busy shopping centre this weekend isn’t it?”

Are the over 70s (IMHO shlould be over 60s) being more careful?

I don’t feel like people are taking this seriously, yet in today’s briefing, BJ obviously assumes it’s going to reduce cases.

Went to the hosp today for important app, literally no difference noticed when driving through town. Lots of people (of all ages) wandering about, the coffee shop I went past looked like business as usual.

Popped into the supermarket on the off chance they would have loo roll, big fat no, but nothing else was out of the ordinary. Plenty of milk so slightly less obvious panic buying than when it snows.

Good for you chequers👍Hope all works out well for you

I popped into Tesco to get some cat litter. The staff arrived with a trolley of loo roll and people started fighting and shouting to get at it. I feel like putting the pics I took all over social media and twitter to shame these people.

Roads have been a lot quieter here today, school run was a breeze but when I was in the chemist I had a lady have a dig at me for not being in isolation because I'm pregnant.

The way she went on you'd think I was coughing and sneezing everywhere when I was just quietly minding my own business waiting for my prescription Hmm

All the same here. I actually created this meme earlier in response to my annoyance at everyone!

Park busier than normal with more children about.

Janemarpling · 17/03/2020 18:46

You seem to think everyone over 70 is supposed to self isolate. This is not true

They have suggested it is coming

TheGoatIsHere · 17/03/2020 18:47

Not sure if it's already been mentioned but all Scouting and Guides in the UK has been cancelled. So no ferrying kids around to these for the foreseeable.

I live rurally and haven't seen a soul whilst out walking for 2 hrs but thats usual. On the other hand?, DD went to a popular shopping centre and said it was as busy as ever!

Frownette · 17/03/2020 19:03

It's a bit like driving really, majority of people drive carefully and are respectful of others, then you get a few idiots who cause mayhem.

I'd go to a restaurant on my own, I'm sure the waiting staff would keep distance bringing a meal and coffee. I wouldn't go to a pub.

I'm on my own for a week so it does bother me what I'd do about food shopping etc if I got sick/displayed symptoms.

81Byerley · 17/03/2020 19:11

@TheSparklyPussycat Anyone over 70 with any common sense will be self isolating already. Especially if they have health problems. I prepared as well as I could and then today we started to self isolate. I'd never forgive myself if I brought Covid19 home to my husband, who has cancer and heart disease. The fact is, that I really will miss my trips to Costa , my bike rides, my wanders round the shops, our occasional pub lunches, my freedom. But I'm doing it, because I'm not an idiot.

Morning m25 commute around Heathrow very quiet. Could do more than 40mph!

EstuaryBird · 17/03/2020 19:16

I would have thought many of you would be delighted to see the dreaded Boomers (yes I am one) out and about.

Look on the bright side, if you get I’ll at the same time as a Boomer you’ll get the treatment and the Boomer will die which is a win/win for you. You survive and there are fewer of us clogging up your planet.

Really though the over 70s were only told yesterday to remove themselves so at least allow them to go and pick through the bits that are left on the shelves. It’s not the older people on our road that have their cars on the street because their garages are chock full of ‘emergency provisions’.

I haven’t been out since last Wednesday (too much scar tissue on lungs, Harrods bomb) and we have just about enough to stretch until whatever we can get on an Asda delivery In 2 weeks...which will be whatever people will have been kind enough to leave. Cheers.

EstuaryBird · 17/03/2020 19:16

Ill, not I’ll

Thisismytimetoshine · 17/03/2020 19:18

Yes, walking the dog this morning it was quiet enough to hear the birds singing. Felt a bit surreal, tbh.

Snowy111 · 17/03/2020 19:18

Janemarpling BJ said that the over 70s should especially follow the non essential travel/ contact rule - that’s what I am referring to

hereiamagain84 · 17/03/2020 19:19

I can’t believe this - I’m in Northern Ireland we are nearly in lock down. It’s St Patrick’s Day,all bars and restaurants have closed. The singers are all doing live feeds on Facebook instead. There was no parades. Most schools have taken the decision to close for the rest of the week and most businesses have people working from home.

Pilot12 · 17/03/2020 19:25

Yes - DP now WFH, all baby classes cancelled, decided to remove DC from nursery, MIL and parents no longer going out.

Kelsoooo · 17/03/2020 19:27

Supermarkets heaving.
Kids taekwondo still going ahead tomorrow.
Their grading still going ahead on Saturday.

MsMeNz · 17/03/2020 19:27

I went out briefly to pick some things up from a empty office as everyone sent home day before but I had been avoiding the office last week and needed to go in to pick stuff up to work from home and noticed how much quieter it was middle of a city. But still people about, I'd guess at 60-70 percent reduction. Headed straight home though as started to feel unwell suddenly and I guess I'll be here for a few weeks now. Confused

Pilot12 · 17/03/2020 19:29

They said that the elderly should be in self isolation by the weekend, so they'll all be out stocking up and having last meet ups with their friends etc. I would expect to see less of them come Saturday.

PickAChew · 17/03/2020 19:30

Town was busier than it's been for a while and all the buses that passed me on my walk to the post office in town (our own closed ages ago and the next nearest closed at Christmas) were as loaded as ever. There were still people in cafes and pubs.

A few more people than usual were out walking, though, but the weather today was much nicer than it's been for a long time.

Glassio · 17/03/2020 19:33

usually a busy little town here but havent seen any signs of anyone over about 60 out today. lots more uni students though.
