Lockdown conditions in France

CroissantsAtDawn · 17/03/2020 06:01

Ive seen lots of threads with people worrying about lockdown.and how they would cope/ it would be enforced.

Last night, following the President's announcement I received a text message from the government confirming the lockdown for 15 days and linking to a site with details.

From 12 today we are only allowed out to go to work if work from home isnt possible, buy groceries, see a doctor, help elderly/vulnerable family in need (with reminder about barrier actions), to let a dog do its business or for individual physical activity close to home.

Each time you need a paper dated and signed explaining why you are out. Infringements are fined 38-135 euros. The paper can be downloaded and printed, shown on your phone or just hand written.

100 000 police and army personnel are being deployed to enforce the conditions.

No mention of how children can exercise. Just that parks etc are closed and there should be no family or friends gathering.

We are going to test going out early for run with 1 DC each and hope that is allowed in "individual activity". If its not I ll stand on the doorstep and watch them run up and down the road (2 highly active boys living in a flat....)

@Gfplux I’ve been trying to persuade my husband to relocate to Luxembourg and now I think I have the final piece of ammunition. An open Mc Donald’s.

missclimpson · 20/04/2020 19:37

And those of us who are 70 may yet be here for some time.
I have suggested to the U3A that I may be teaching via Zoom from October. Not sure getting lots of elderly folk together for lectures and classes would be a very bright idea myself.

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/04/2020 19:37

But our numbers keep falling so they're going to find it hard to keep the rules applied in May

CroissantsAtDawn · 20/04/2020 19:38

I thought they'd discarded the age idea?

I think the age thing is still there but nobody quite knows what it means.

KatharinaRosalie · 20/04/2020 20:10

Yes I'm also waiting for the news, mostly about schools and also borders.
Gave DS a hair cut. With clippers friend uses for her dog. Not bad, considering I have never cut anybody's hair before. Swiss hairdressers can open next week, but I'm sure they all have backlog until summer.

MadameF · 20/04/2020 20:32

No there is no additional or prolonged restriction for people more at risk for health or age reasons, Edouard Philippe was clear about that in his speech yesterday.
I agree that a lot of people are more relaxed about the rules. When I went to the supermarket small groups and couples were shopping together, Ive seen several cyclists and lits more cats on the Riad often with more than one person inside.
I think only half the class will go back at a time if that.
Not sure if Ill be teaching face to face fir a while as télétravail looks to continue where possible even after the deconfinement.
And it looks like I'll be losing all my British gîte bookings for July and August. Hopefully it will be possible to pick up some French bookings instead.

BurneyFanny · 20/04/2020 20:39

Well keep us posted as we might need somewhere to go if we’re not allowed to fly.

KatharinaRosalie · 20/04/2020 21:01

Yeah we have tickets to fly to UK in July..

notimagain · 20/04/2020 21:26

I think CroissantsatDawn is correct - there were certainly reports last week that relaxing lockdown in age related stages would run foul of anti-discrimination legislation and so as I understood it that idea was kicked into touch.

missclimpson · 21/04/2020 04:59

Thank you I had missed that announcement. We have an elderly relative who is dying (of natural causes) and have been a bit distracted. Obviously we will still be pretty cautious, but it will be nice to get out in the car for a change of scene.

Some information about a progressive rentrée here:

Not sure how they'll manage less than 15 in a class!

A slightly unrelated question - where do you find the most balanced news reporting? Is BFM the equivalent to Daily Mail?

Hope you are all well.

Watchagotcha · 21/04/2020 11:57

@Brioche

I think BFM is a bit more tabloid, but I don’t think anything here comes close to the Daily mail!

Le Monde is more broadsheet but I don’t know what political orientation it has. I like it though, have taken a subscription. It’s Live feed is informative and sometimes funny.

KatharinaRosalie · 21/04/2020 12:24

Our maternelle has all 3 years in the same classroom, also not sure how they will manage 15 - so part time school only, alternate days?

BurneyFanny · 21/04/2020 12:35

Not sure how they'll manage less than 15 in a class!

My son’s CP class only has 12 kids. One of Macron’s flagship policies.

AuldAlliance · 21/04/2020 12:42

Fewer than 15 in a class should be fine up to collège level, if you presume they are going for half-days or one day on, one day off. From 6e, it gets trickier, but I don't think there are very many classes with over 30 in, are there? I did teach a couple of classes with 35 pupils in a lycée the year I did my stage, though.

At university level it's impossible for there to be fewer than 15 students, especially as the assessment system we are having to put in place because we can't do online exams means we are looking at a far, far higher pass rate than usual and our groups are already at 35-40. Add in the students who won't be going on Erasmus or other exchanges, and I think we are looking at groups so big that distance teaching will be needed for a good long while.

BurneyFanny · 21/04/2020 12:44

Sure hope I get that new job!

Roseau18 · 21/04/2020 14:45

Brief conversation with my head of department yesterday, and he had heard from a high-up administrative person that TD classes might be every other week in September. I assume he meant it would be every other week for students and every week for lecturers, but that still wouldn't bring it down to less than 15 students.

AuldAlliance · 21/04/2020 15:15

Nope, every two weeks wouldn't cut it. Not sure those at the top are entirely aware of our teaching conditions. I had a third-year "option" with 39 students in it this semester.
Ihink I'll start planning how to record my lectures over the summer.

FingonTheValiant · 21/04/2020 15:24

All 3 of my 4ème classes have 32. So that’s awkward.

I’m far more worried what we’re going to do with our 3. They’re PS, CE1 and CM1, so in the last week to return. DH and I both teach collège/lycée. So at least one week where we have no one to look after them. And if they do only go back for half days we’ll be utterly stuffed.

BurneyFanny · 21/04/2020 15:26

given that they're still trying to thrash out the details of how to make sure everyone gets marks for the second semester then I really don't expect any arrangements to next year to be firmed up for months yet.

KatharinaRosalie · 21/04/2020 15:34

Hm it really looks like the PS and MS will go back last? That will be annoying. Aren't we all supposed to go back to work? Not like people can send DC to grandparents in this situation.
