Lockdown conditions in France

CroissantsAtDawn · 17/03/2020 06:01

Ive seen lots of threads with people worrying about lockdown.and how they would cope/ it would be enforced.

Last night, following the President's announcement I received a text message from the government confirming the lockdown for 15 days and linking to a site with details.

From 12 today we are only allowed out to go to work if work from home isnt possible, buy groceries, see a doctor, help elderly/vulnerable family in need (with reminder about barrier actions), to let a dog do its business or for individual physical activity close to home.

Each time you need a paper dated and signed explaining why you are out. Infringements are fined 38-135 euros. The paper can be downloaded and printed, shown on your phone or just hand written.

100 000 police and army personnel are being deployed to enforce the conditions.

No mention of how children can exercise. Just that parks etc are closed and there should be no family or friends gathering.

We are going to test going out early for run with 1 DC each and hope that is allowed in "individual activity". If its not I ll stand on the doorstep and watch them run up and down the road (2 highly active boys living in a flat....)

Mamansnet forget the homework. Anywhere else he wouldn’t be in school yet anyway. How are you getting cbeebies btw?

KatharinaRosalie · 14/04/2020 10:34

We haven't really bothered with homework with DC2, she's in maternelle, it is mostly arts and crafts anyway. Honestly I wouldn't stress about it.

CroissantsAtDawn · 14/04/2020 11:15

Yes how are you getting cbeebies?! My boys love it when we go to the UK and they're allowed tv every morning as I figure it's good for their English...

DS2 is in grande section. We're doing the worksheetsbthat are set but a lot slower than the teacher set them. Im not doing a lot of the extra oral stuff. DS2 is having a ball inventing lots of new games.

DS1 is in CE2 and is doing the work that is set - but over 6 or even 7 days, not in 4.

I've been using the time to improve my son in CP's reading in English. DD in PS is mostly colouring, painting and doing stickers. We have a massive stack of magazines we bought last summer for the plastic tat on the front. They never did the inside bits at all, the little toads, so we're working through it now.

Watchagotcha · 14/04/2020 11:30

CBeebies... accessed by using a VPN, going on the IPlayer and lying about having a TV licence, like every other Brit that watches the Beeb abroad. That's not judging BTW we do the same. I'd happily pay a subscription to access the BBC as per Netflix etc, but it's not an option atm.

We are working our way through the Dr Who back catalogue in the evenings, having grown out of the CBeebies phase. Oh and Steve Bakshall has a new Deadly 60 series out just now.

Sports clubs / activities yep I hear you. DS1, in a "normal" week would do: swimming, parkour, gym, handball, badminton and 2 sessions of EPS. I can't see any of the activities being allowed to resume - especially the parkour / gym, which are his favourites. Close physical contact, sharing equipment, etc. TBH I am more concerned about his physical activities than school going back. He's only 5eme so the work isn't too difficult and will all be repeated anyway. But his physical condition - losing the regular habit of exercise, that concerns me more. And it's hard to keep it up with boring walks and bedroom workouts on his own.

eggcream · 14/04/2020 11:33

I don't have kids at home these days, but we can get cbeebies.

We have a satellite dish and a smart TV so we get all the UK freeview channels.

If you don't have a smart TV then you can use a decoder (you still need a dish though). Most of the ones I see referred to on our local sites are Humax, although several people seem to have a Sky box too. Not sure how that works, we have never had Sky,

BurneyFanny · 14/04/2020 11:36

I downloaded a VPN once but couldn't get my head round how it worked Blush so we just watch snippets on Youtube. Fuck knows why they don't make that new BritBox thing available abroad, it would be a massive revenue generator.

mamansnet · 14/04/2020 11:44

@Watchagotcha Actually no. I have a satellite dish installed and can access most channels via Freesat. Completely above board, no monthly VPN fees and I can channel surf, although there's no access to iPlayer. Sky subscriptions might be possible but never tried. It's a bit like back in the 80s/90s when if you wanted to watch a programme, you had to physically be in front of the TV at the appointed hour but at least I can claim the TV

A lot of the channels are pure crap but I've got all of the BBC/ITV/C4/C5 output plus regional variations, news, Film on 4, Sony Movies and the lifesaving CBeebies/CITV etc, so plenty to flick through and a load of radio channels as well.

You're all right about the homework. The work that's been set is far from compulsory but it would be nice to give him some educational stuff during lockdown and not just playing with his football and toy trains.

Probably just feeling bad about it as I'm having a bad day today. Don't know if it's pregnancy hormones, interrupted sleep, lockdown or all 3 combined but I just want to hide in my bed!

CroissantsAtDawn · 14/04/2020 11:45

Yes i would pay for BBC /iplayer!!!

My 2 do judo which they ADORE and obviously can't do, until September at the earliest. The eldest had a competition this April which is cancelled. They also keep lamenting the swimming pool - we used to go weekly.

Personally I'll be thrilled to be able to go more than 1km from the flat! My work computer might need replacing and I was hoping to have an excuse to cycle there (55 minutes) but for the moment its still working

KatharinaRosalie · 14/04/2020 11:54

DC1 really misses his swimming classes, he's strugging a little with schoolwork but best in swimming, so it has been great for his confidence..
We have a pool though, a couple of more warm days and it will be plenty warm.

LaChatte · 14/04/2020 12:28

We also have Freeview (60cm satellite dish and 30€ decodeur, pre-smart TV TV), I even tried paying my UK TV licence but was told I couldn't watch British TV outside of the UK.

MadameF · 14/04/2020 12:31

We have UK TV via Freesat with a Humax box but hardly ever watch it now as DH doesn't speak much English so we watch French TV or Netflix.
DS is in 5ème and does Athletics at the same club as me and is keeping fit on the trampoline and playing baseballs it with DD and the dog. The pool is 20C but I don't have the right chemicals to treat it so am trying to work out the right quantity of bleach to use. I'm not going to switch in the pool heater until I have clients here (assuming I'm allowed to open and clients are allowed to travel!
Have no problem in sending DS to school as I'm not worried about him catching it but I am worried about the teachers and other adults who work there.

Hello
RTE, the Irish state TV has made their homeschool hub available via their international player.. CP is about first class I think..might be a big of a distraction for some.

www.rte.ie/player/series/1st-and-2nd-class-rt%C3%A9-home-school-hub/SI0000006858?epguid=PL000003250

I was more gutted than I thought last night, even though I was ready for school not starting until Sept and was expecting lockdown till the 4th. The 11th just feels so far away and like others, I was hoping they might lift the 1km ban. Plus, knowing all the concerts we were looking forward to are gone...not sure how to break it to my daughter that she won't be seeing Taylor Swift in July after all...

Watchagotcha · 14/04/2020 12:52

I think you are legally required to have a licence to watch UK tv by whatever means - iPlayer, Vpn, freesat - whatever. But only U.K. residents can buy one. The legal arrangements are way behind the digital reality on this one.

I forgot about satellite (dish wasn’t an option for us)... but I confess I’m so used to choosing what and when to watch, we all prefer the IPlayer.

Gfplux · 14/04/2020 13:37

Luxembourg.
All UK TV
Via dish and Humax decoder

MadameF · 14/04/2020 17:05

DD has tickets for the Papillons de Nuit concert which has currently been postponed to August, but I'm sure that will be cancelled.
All running races have been cancelled until end July so I won't be doing my 63km trail race in June. I'll be surprised if there are any races before Autumn, just as well as training properly is impossible with the current restrictions. Am grateful to be able to run at all but wish we could cycle too, I'm not sure why that is a problem if you aren't cycling in a pack. No news yet on whether the Tour de France will be postponed or cancelled for 2020.

MadameF · 14/04/2020 18:28

Have been wondering also what the effect will be on the clubs and associations in France. Many are subsidized by the communes and towns and I don't think there will be a lot of spare money to go around after the crisis. And some members may ask for refunds if they aren't allowed to practice their activity for several months.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/04/2020 18:41

MadameF I think they are worried about accidents as cycling is of course more risky. A friend in Switzerland went biking yesterday and broke his collar bone..

MadameF · 14/04/2020 21:49

Katharine yes I'm sure you are right but statistically I bet there is more risk for all of us of accidents in the home with confinement especially if stairs are involved!

KatharinaRosalie · 15/04/2020 06:53

Oh absolutely. Same as the risks of me dying when I catch this thing, compared to driving on motorway every day. When they open the country up again, I'll take my chances with driving.
So we had -91 people in ICU in France yesterday, that's positive.

notimagain · 15/04/2020 07:23

MadameF

No news yet on whether the Tour de France will be postponed or cancelled for 2020.

FYI lots of fairly solid rumours coming out of local officials and media sources yesterday that the TdF is postponed until the Autumn...quite how this fits in with the Vuelta I haven't yet checked.

Watchagotcha · 15/04/2020 10:36

DH said last night that if the daily death stats for heart attacks / RTAs / cancer / seasonal flu etc were reported endlessly in great detail every day, it might put deaths from Covid-19 into perspective. I guess it’s the novelty of this virus that makes people feel very differently about it.

Gfplux · 15/04/2020 20:16

After President Macrons announcement on Monday Luxembourg had Prime Minister Bettel today.
He announced the beginning of some restrictions being lifted.
Full details here.

The part about face covering is very interesting.
Further information on schools will come tomorrow from the Minister of Education.

KatharinaRosalie · 15/04/2020 20:56

What a day - DC1 managed to wake up with a tooth ache and swollen cheek. Had to actually get 3!! teeth pulled out, as the previous dentist had messed up the only filling he's ever had. I'm on wine.
