My lungs feel like they are on fire. Anyone else

I was on here last week saying it was all an over reaction. I am one who usually tries not to panic. And that is what I was thinking. It is not good to panic people. I also thought that it was blown up in the media. Well. Now I am sick myself. So I have learned - it is actually happening. I am scared

I have been ill for three days, chest pains, - heavy breathing. And what is very scary to me - my lungs feel like they are on fire. It is a feeling that I have never felt before. I am really scared. Where I am - I am being told to self isolate. If it gets more serious - I will go in somewhere.

But I am really scared. Does anyone else feel like their lungs are on fire? Is anone else sick

Patsy you could try doing some gentle breathing exercises. Somebody kindly posted a link further up thread and it helped me.

www.lung.org/lung-health-and-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/copd/patient-resources-and-videos/pursed-lip-breathing-video.html

Hope your call gets answered soon. Let us know what they say Flowers

PatsyStone39 · 18/03/2020 14:47

Thank you. I'll try those breathing techniques. NHS 24 cut me off the minute my call reached two hours. I've recalled and I'm back in the queue. Not feeling so hopeful at getting to speak to someone.

How is everyone else with the same breathing difficulties doing? It's almost soothing to know there's several of us in the same boat.

Sending you all the biggest unmumsnetty hugs.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 18/03/2020 15:01

@patsystone39 hope you feel better soon and you manage to get through to 111.

I still have bad chest pains and my temps just gone up. Seems to be a rollercoaster. Will keep fingers crossed you’re ok.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 18/03/2020 15:02

@longshot how are you doing?

Alwaystwomagpies · 18/03/2020 15:16

@PatsyStone39 if you can take some measurements it will help them assess you

Can you measure your breathing rate by counting the number of breaths you are taking in each minute (or 30s and double)

And your pulse rate at your wrist- thumb side of wrist

And your temperature if you can

That will all help them assess your severity

Fi1982 · 18/03/2020 15:22

@PonderTweek

I’ve had very similar symptoms, although my fever was raging at 40c for just one day, and then pretty much normal ever since (5 days on).

I haven’t actually had any chest problems yet, but my throat, tongue and mouth have been in agony for days, and covered in a mix of red pinprick spots and what look like boils/ulcers/something called doughnut lesions (definitely not as delicious as they sound). Paracetamol and ibuprofen aren’t touching it, gargling with salt water brings temporary relief. Eating is pretty much impossible, and although I’m devoid of all energy, sleeping is very difficult as I’m in constant pain ☹️

Doc gave me penicillin as a precaution because of the spots I described, but she said she’s pretty sure it’s CV, perhaps with a bout of tonsillitis or strep throat on top. Joy!

youkiddingme · 18/03/2020 15:25

Fi1982 - please stick to just the paracetamol, if it's CV ibuprofen can make it worse.

tangledyarn · 18/03/2020 15:27

@pasty I'm very similar, left lung painful and not working properly and just feel unwell, get out of breath doing anything but asthma wheeze has settled a bit since yesterday Just trying to stay in bed as much as I can and distract myself. I can still talk which is a good sign! Try to stay calm, I know it's hard, but panicking will make your breathing feel worse. If you feel you need emergency help before you get through to 111 call an ambulance rather than a&e xx

marmitebear · 18/03/2020 15:33

Just jumping in to say that you can have CV with no temperature, 111 just confirmed that for me.

notangelinajolie · 18/03/2020 15:36

I am breathless and my temperature is not going down. It went to 38.5 so I called my GP for advice. I can live with the breathless bit (just) but the high temperature is worrying me a lot. I couldn't get past the receptionist. She said they can't help. And absolutely refused to even give me a telephone appointment with GP.

And now because there is no mobile signal in my house I've been sat in my freezing kitchen on my landline to 111 for over an hour.
I have a feeling when/if I get through they will tell me to take paracetamol and self isolate. Is there really any point?
I don't need an ambulance, I don't need to go to hospital, I am ok to sit this out if I can. I just want to know if it's ok to have a temp over 38 for 3 days.
Think I will give up and go back to bed.

notangelinajolie · 18/03/2020 15:45

And to add to my general exhaustion the receptionist cancelled my B12 jab which is booked for Friday.

Fi1982 · 18/03/2020 16:01

Thanks for the advice youkiddingme, but I’ve checked the NHS guidelines and they mention that there’s no proven link between ibuprofen and worsening symptoms, just that some people may be adversely affected by anti-inflammatory drugs due to underlying health conditions. I don’t have any, and have always responded fine to ibuprofen, plus I’m not short of breath. I’m monitoring that closely, if it changes, I’ll stop using the ibuprofen, but I can’t get through the day without it at present, I must have 20+ sores in my mouth 😩

toothfairy73 · 18/03/2020 16:20

OP I am so sorry this happened to you. What happened to you WASNT YOUR FAULT. Don't take the blame and Shane, give it back to him. You have so much going on. This is my website set up by myself and other survivors. warriorwoman.blog/

There are some useful resources in terms of help and self help, plus a blog of what it feels like to go through the criminal justice system in the uk.

I hope your COVID 19 symptoms are improving. Did your dr prescribe anything? Did they think it could be COVID19?

I'm asthmatic. I had a cough. Now slightly sore throat. Lungs ache. Arms and legs feel heavy. I am clammy and have nightsweats. I feel hot but no temperature. I'm self isolating but I don't know if this is what it is.

Sending lots of love OP

itsgettingweird · 18/03/2020 16:27

Saw a newspaper report earlier from someone who said they have had CV and confirmed and had the burning lungs.

They reckon a month until they have a test to see if you've had it.

Maybe we'll all know soon.

I've actually got over what ever it was I had. Very mild except for lung pain for 5 days. Coughed for an hour and no temp.

itsgettingweird · 18/03/2020 16:31

Will add that although got better last night and better still today. This is day 10!

Orangeblossom78 · 18/03/2020 16:51

It is concerning that 111 might be taken up with calls but the really breathless / needing help might be missed...please if things do worsen think about calling e.g. 999 they can come out and assess you at home Flowers just don't go in...

hollieberrie · 18/03/2020 17:01

Spoke too soon! Lungs are on fire, god it hurts. This virus.. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sunshine1239 · 18/03/2020 17:03

Mine seems to come in waves

Was bad last night, but better this morning and now awful again ....

Sarmham · 18/03/2020 17:03

Adding myself to the thread as I’ve had the same symptoms for a couple of days now. Heartburny feel in the back and around my shoulders and if I breathe in deeply feels like I’m going to cough but not much actual coughing. Sometimes feels like I’ve got something stuck in it. No temp. I’m breastfeeding my 4 month old and while I know the news is it doesn’t affect babies that badly, I’m petrified I’ve passed it onto her and my other kids. I think I’ll get onto 111 online and see what they say re test.
💐 to all of you in the same boat

buckeejit · 18/03/2020 17:05

@clitterratti think your post might have got lost a bit but so sorry for your loss. Try the breathing. @TheBewildernessisWeetabix linked to (which I'm so grateful for as was the last thing I feel I needed to know to be prepared)

Also op, so sorry for what happened to you. I too hope his prick falls off.

And generally thank you for this thread and I hope you all feel better soon

Thewindsofchange · 18/03/2020 17:10

Did anyone start with achyness?

Offredismysister · 18/03/2020 17:16

I started with aches all over, back, hips, knees & ankles. I took my temp as I was leaving work & it was 37.8. I got home & intermittent fever & chills started. I’ve been in bed all day today & now my arms, upper back & neck hurt. I wish I could get a test as I’m an nhs worker & am needed to help out. If it’s not covid I could go back to work as soon as I feel better. So frustrating.

user34254356 · 18/03/2020 17:17

Can i ask what is a continuous cough? NHS 111 website states, continuous cough for 1 hour 3 times a day.

Does that mean if the total amount of coughing in a day is for an hour?

I have 4-5 coughs an hour - is that continuous?

I now have the same burning lungs feeling.

Is anyone's cough a tickly one? My throat is sore and irritated.

stayathomegardener · 18/03/2020 17:30

A good idea would be to order a salt pipe and 15% lugols iodine to inhale as kills all microbes.

So stressed I might pass this on to others I can't avoid. In the home etc.

nearlyrev · 18/03/2020 17:42

I'm pretty sure I had it just after Christmas. Terrible chest pain - like you say, burning. Felt like my chest was on fire. I couldn't breathe properly, I was propped up on 5 pillows every night just to breathe. The WORST cough of my life which (TMI - made me pee due to how violent it was - also made me projectile vomit). Got to the point I was bleeding from my throat from the excessive coughing and vomiting it too :( . I could barely walk to the toilet let alone anywhere else. I remember calling my mum and saying I think I might actually die because this is like nothing I've ever experienced before (and I have had the 'proper' flu before). Then after 3 days I began to feel a little better until a day or two after when it hit me again but 50% worse. Took about 3 weeks in total to get back to 'me'. Still have a residual cough even now months later.

My Gran thinks she had it too, she has had cancers, almost died twice and has had many operations yet she had what I had just before Christmas and said in her 76 years she's NEVER felt like that in her life.

Sorry your going through this OP. Drink plenty of fluids (cannot recommend this enough), prop yourself up in bed as that really does help and ride it through. It's horrible but the vast majority do get over it and if it's any consolation, myself and Gran are back to normal now Thanks
