Think would be good to keep this thread going! Will link to the previous threads in a bit.

Lovely news from NHS land. Our ITU nurse arrived in the hotel room that will be home for a week yesterday to find it came complete with microwave. And Tesco has put a vase of flowers in every room. Guess which will be our supermarket of choice when this is all over?

Siameasy · 23/03/2020 12:43

Good news did a 2 mile run
Bad news DD is already starting to irritate me😭

AutumnRose1 · 23/03/2020 12:54

Also do you work for the NHS?

BooseysMom · 23/03/2020 12:55

Beautiful day here too Smile. The photos of flowers are lovely Flowers.

@Siameasy.. long-tailed tits are one of my fave birds. Haven't seen any here for a while but we do get alot of goldfinches.

Hope everyone gets some sun today Grin

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 13:17

Also do you work for the NHS?

Used to, not any more. The ITU nurse is my stepdaughter.

Orangeblossom78 · 23/03/2020 13:27

Lovely photos Flowers

First day home schooling here today, seems to be going OK. Lunch hour now! It is keeping me off the news / internet as need to be a good example! Which has actually been quite helpful

We have done a pen about a boat, helped design a bedroom and done a few bits in the house. Very sunny here today. Thanks for the lovely posts

Orangeblossom78 · 23/03/2020 13:29

Summer we were given a link to Joe Wicks workouts from school but have not tried yet as I find him quite annoying Grin but will maybe try it sometime. I'm taking off my fitbit for now and trying not to stress too much about having some rest times, might try a walk later.

AutumnRose1 · 23/03/2020 14:19

Also ah, I see.

I did hear something about them donations flowers to nhs workers, now it makes sense.

Bunnyflop · 23/03/2020 15:00

I meant to ask, to what extent are we meant to be home schooling? I mean we are using the maths app and doing the usual handwriting practice, doing some worksheets the school gave us... but are we expected to basically do what the school would normally do?!

We had a table football tournament, got ds to run around the park for a bit (was deserted) and then we went on a walk to count rainbows in people’s windows. We counted 18 and enjoyed the sunshine and the spring blossom trees. Ds linked his arm through mine at one point as we mooched along 💓

Saw some lovely magnolia, as pictured.

I don't think anybody expects full home schooling. You are not a teacher, and all the kids will be in the same boat. As long as you're doing the worksheets, you're probably doing more than most.

I saw this page on the BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-51235105
A nice visual reminder that the majority of cases recover.

Spudlet · 23/03/2020 15:29

I did a Going on a Bear Hunt course around the garden today. It included a bear chase back through all the obstacles at the end. He really loved it, we must have done it ten times, including once with Grandma on FaceTime. I’m exhausted now and we’re having a Sarah and Duck break!

Bunny that sounds like a lovely day, I think it depends on the age of the children. For primary children hands on stuff is great (former primary teacher)

Orangeblossom78 · 23/03/2020 15:32

Spud sounds fab! Hope you had fun

Millie2013 · 23/03/2020 15:46

Today, DD did a maths worksheet, then started on a power point (set school work)

This afternoon, we’ve been on a nature walk and we did the “name 3 things you can see/smell/hear)” (my contribution to home schooling)
She’s 7

I anticipate that some days we’ll do bugger all tho

gingerbreadslice · 23/03/2020 16:30

Feel really down today I just can't see how I can do weeks of this I'm top floor in a flat with three kids and I feel like we're all going insane being cooped up not going out, I can't even have the window open wide for fresh air as they are all restricted. I honestly feel like giving up I was so happy thinking of staying in as I didn't go out much before but now it's being forced to stay in and the kids are missing out on school I hate it. I feel very low sorry to moan I just am so upset at this situation, I know we all feel fed up just bloody hell Sad

Cornettoninja · 23/03/2020 16:45

@gingerbreadslice I’m sorry that you’re feeling low today.

You will find your balance and new routine to keep you all going. This isn’t it forever Flowers

DianneWhatcock · 23/03/2020 16:52

@gingerbreadslice

sorry to hear your are feeling so low. What is really helping me is keeping in mind that every day takes us closer to being back to normality. Might sound daft as well but I also try to feel grateful every day that me or my family aren't ill (I hope that doesn't sound like I don't care about the ones that are, because I do) x

Spudlet · 23/03/2020 16:59

@gingerbreadslice I’m sorry, that sounds really tough Flowers

I think we all just have to get by as best we can, to be honest. Having a moan and feeling thoroughly fed up is a completely valid and rational response.

gingerbreadslice · 23/03/2020 17:03

@DianneWhatcock @Spudlet @Cornettoninja Thank you for all what you've said it does help thinking each day is a day closer to it being over. I just never ever could see us going through this ever and I'm finding it hard to cope now, I'm glad too my family is fine and I hope it stays that way for us all being okay. I just miss the fresh air and seeing the kids run around and burning of some energy. I really hope things get back to normal in a few weeks, I know that's some hoping though Sad

DianneWhatcock · 23/03/2020 17:07

You are very welcome @gingerbreadslice and please keep posting. Also remember that at the moment you can take the kids for a run out, even a jog round the block will help (while keeping at least 2m from any others of course.)

I know the isolation is tough but this will vastly reduce all our chances of getting / spreading the nasty thing! so remember we are now all safer as long as we keep abiding to the advice x

wow this thread is a life line isn't it. thank goodness for it, and all of you on it. sometimes it seems to be the one sane place on the internet!!

Spudlet · 23/03/2020 17:10

We won’t get back to normal tomorrow, or next week, or the week after that. But we will eventually. We will look back on this time and say to each other ‘Bloody hell, do you remember when we all had to stay in? Crikey, I thought the kids were going to demolish the house!’

And our children will look at us like we have grown an extra head and go ‘Yeah Mum, whatevs.’ The younger ones anyway - they probably won’t even remember properly.

And then we will WASH OUR HANDS because we will all be in the habit by then, I hope! And use a bit less loo roll and generally try not to live life like we have an extra planet tucked away somewhere. Perhaps. I hope.

But this will be a memory, one day.

tobee · 23/03/2020 17:14

Oh gingerbreadslice sorry you're feeling so blue! How are you today physically? I was hoping you'd post but dad you're struggling mentally. This is why this thread is a lifeline! We must keep posting. I miss coming to Mumsnet and finding a great mix of different stuff!

My favourite thing on this thread is hearing about everyone and thinking about the different joys and challenges with posters with kids of different ages, from different parts of the country, with different careers and so on. A proper virtual community! And seeing photos of pets of course!

tobee · 23/03/2020 17:15

Sad not dad!

DaffodilThatch · 23/03/2020 17:17

Just popping in to say hello, struggling to keep up with the thread a bit now that at home with preschooler and teething baby. I was feeling a bit down this morning but better now. I wonder how soon we will get used to this and it will feel somewhat 'normal'. Thank you for all the bunny photos and positive links. @Spudlet I love the bear hunt idea, so sweet. Sounds like some well earned Sarah ans Duck time!

@gingerbreadslice that does sound really hard Flowers. Just one day at a time, we will get through this.

Forgot to say @Alsohuman that's lovely about the flowers! We need people like your daughter. I'm very proud of my sister who is a doctor in the NHS, she's very stoic about the whole thing. I mentioned upthread about applause for healthcare workers - I've seen on Facebook that there's a plan to do it in the UK at 8pm on the 26th (Thursday).
