Think would be good to keep this thread going! Will link to the previous threads in a bit.

@Bunnyflop thank you 🙏

I will be ok.

MinesaPinot · 22/03/2020 18:55

Daffodilpasta that's exactly what DH has been saying. It's also been comforting to see people out and about in China as well. We will get through this but it's going to be tough going for a while. If only I could stop myself bursting into tears at random moments. DH has been brilliant though. He's obviously very concerned - he's very anxious about me having to go into London to work one day later this week - but he's just let me cry on his shoulder. And I got a line of bedding out which was blowing lovely in the sunshine.

Bunnyflop · 22/03/2020 19:19

@minesapinot people are back out in China because things have calmed down there?

GuyFawkesDay · 22/03/2020 19:23

Today's loveliness:

Birds using my new feeder for first time
Putting up solar lights in the garden
Having a cuppa on my garden chairs for the first time
Planting seeds with the kids

Tomorrow I'm getting up early for a walk with a podcast before settling into remote teaching.

I'm lucky to live rurally so can go for a good 2 mile circuit round the village and not see a soul, especially at that time. I may get healthier during our confinement!

MinesaPinot · 22/03/2020 19:35

Bunnyflop yes, that's what I saw on the news yesterday.

GuyFawkesDay I'm hoping to get a bit fitter working from home as well. We've got some fitness equipment at home and I've got space to do my ballet Barre exercises with the aid of a dining chair. I said to DH that we'd have bodies ready for Love Island when this is finished LOL!

gingerbreadslice · 22/03/2020 19:45

I am worried now I've had a back pain in my left side for the last few days now it's in the middle of my lower back and hurts so bad paracetamol won't touch it, now my chest feels a little tight I wonder what this is I'm hoping it's not the virus Confused

Noooblerooble · 22/03/2020 19:50

Gingerbread 🌷

I saw this on Twitter. A British manufacturing company who usually make garden machinery thinks they might be able to make 1000 ventilators a day

I’ve also had some anxiety this afternoon. I usually have an okay day then end up giving in to the news once we get to the press conference stage and I then spend too long reading and inevitably check the other posts on mumsnet which is never a good idea at the moment! Ironically I never read/watch the news usually. I stoped years ago when I realised it’s mostly sensationalism and fear mongering and only serves to make me feel anxious and depressed. But now I get sucked into it. Obviously i want to stay with the latest news so I can be prepared but I never just stick to that, I can’t help myself but keep reading!

I’ve decided I’m absolutely going to sort out our garden. We’re lucky enough to have a big garden but since we moved in 8 years ago the most ie ever done is plant a few flowers or a little veg that I forgot about the next week Grin I’m tempted to turn most of it into a veg garden but it seems like such a huge job (our garden is a jungle) I’m not sure where to start. If anyone can recommend somewhere online I can get supplies from that would be fantastic. I’m not sure if I need seeds or young plants Confused and I’ll need compost as our soil isn’t great.

PrivateSpidey · 22/03/2020 20:23

Gypsy I don't know much about growing veg but I got some flower seeds from Chilterns recently, and they had a huge selection of veg seeds.

It's mail order and it was so relaxing browsing through the (paper) catalogue as well, it really took my mind off things. Could be worth a look?

Spudlet · 22/03/2020 20:24

Seeds or plants depends on what you want to grow. At the moment you can be looking at seeds, and it might even be a bit early to sow some things - a lot of our things can’t go in before April or even May. If it takes a long time to clear the space, you might want young plants.

If you’re clearing a lot of old stuff, make a compost heap! It will take until next year at least, but you’ll have a good supply of compost for the future. Watch what you put in though, if you have twitch or ground elder I’d advise not composting it as it will just spread from even a tiny bit of root (we have both). Bin that stuff.

Bouncingbomb · 22/03/2020 20:25

I’m in North Yorkshire and don’t plant anything tender outside until after the last spring bank holiday. It’s -2 here tonight.

Spudlet · 22/03/2020 20:27

We’re in Norfolk so can get away with sticking stuff in a bit sooner. Haven’t planted anything yet though. Putting my early spuds in next weekend though, fingers crossed we’ll be good...!

Millie2013 · 22/03/2020 20:43

❤️ Norfolk, Spudlet, we spent most of last summer there

BooseysMom · 22/03/2020 21:01

Hi, i was recommended this thread by another mn'tter. I got upset yesterday when turned away by a hair salon as my DS had a minor shuffle! We had an appointment booked ffs and i wouldn't have gone if I thought there was any risk. We were made to feel like leppers.
I get the fear people have but 1700 die of flu each year and the flu often fails and yet no one goes insane about it. So i have decided to step away from the hypey threads for my sanity.

Today was such a beautiful day. We went for a walk well away from anyone and just tried to forget the virus.

@GypsyWanderer.. i wish you success with your garden project. Check out the gardening section here. It's really interesting and you get loads of great advice. I got loads of help on there about my various gardening disasters!
Good luck x

BooseysMom · 22/03/2020 21:01

Snuffle, not shuffle!!

BooseysMom · 22/03/2020 21:03

Oh ffs..meant to say the flu VACC oftenfails

GypsyWanderer · 22/03/2020 21:32

@PrivateSpidey I’m going to check out chilterns thank you. I’ll see if they do a free catalogue as I miss browsing those!

@Spudlet it’s funny but every year I get garden motivation around May and it’s often too late to do seeds so I give up! I’m tempted to either dig the whole garden up (it’s mostly grass) or make/buy raised beds to stop the dogs digging. A compost bin is a great idea too and something I could get the kids in on. We’re in Norfolk too and it’s lovely at the moment.

@BooseysMom thank you I’ll check that out. I didn’t even know there was a garden section here so I’ll do some digging (terrible pun for you) tomorrow.

Siameasy · 22/03/2020 21:38

Flower chat

I’m starting the garden soon too. You can start your hardy annuals now-outdoors. I usually do British wild flowers.

If you’re buying seeds I would recommend Scabious as they appear to be immune to everything and come in lots of colours, fast growing and popular with bees.

I’m obsessed with wild flowers so happy to answer Qs

AutumnRose1 · 22/03/2020 21:42

ink sorry, I’ve only just seen your post

She wouldn’t like that either but she’s watching Good Karma Hospital now, so that’s something!

Bunnyflop · 22/03/2020 21:45

Gardening is the best! I’ve just ordered two new roses, a white David Austin shrub and a ‘blue moon’ rose. Also a sage coloured metal obelisk and some lilac sweet pea seedlings to grow up it. Might also get some alliums, and a ton of lavender to run along the front of the border.

Inkpaperstars · 22/03/2020 22:10

@AutumnRose1

Glad she has found something.. I seem to remember my mum really liked Good Karma hospital when it was originally on.

AutumnRose1 · 22/03/2020 22:18

So jealous of people with lovely gardens to work on, I hope you can post pics!

HonestlyItsFine · 22/03/2020 22:32

Yes to the garden pics!
In good news today- around 90% of China's cases have recovered. Some 3k are still active, so that number will go up further.
Worldwide recoveries are at 94,704. (and that's just the officially tested people- the true number must be way into the hundreds of thousands)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/03/2020 22:44

Just had a pop up to say that Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the virus

Not sure if that counts as good news ... ?

Inkpaperstars · 22/03/2020 22:59

I'd say so Puzzle
