Think would be good to keep this thread going! Will link to the previous threads in a bit.

@tobee
Well done on your weight loss.
Feel good about it - there is enough guilt.
Feeling good about yourself makes you stronger and more useful in these difficult times.

Robin233 · 20/03/2020 06:59

@Millie2013 Hysteria appears to be more contagious than coronavirus 🧐🧐

This.
Cv is not the enemy.
Fear is the enemy.
Enjoy your walk and the ducks 🦆

I’m so done with MN after this is over. I don’t know if the unusual situation has brought out the nut jobs, but the hivemind over on the main boards is literally verging on insane. Are these the people we live amongst??

StCharlotte · 20/03/2020 07:39

Last day in the office today for 12 weeks Sad But so grateful to work for accommodating me be able to WFH. I only wish the weather would improve and would love to be at home to listen to 90s day on Radio 2.

Do you think the Beeb have brought forward The Great British Sewing Bee knowing we're going to need comforting TV? (Speaking of TV have the local channels merged for the duration?)

My Milk & More delivery wasn't nicked from the doorstep which is very positive Grin I normally only have milk but have added bread and eggs once a week.

Also I hear that postal workers are key workers which is good - not from a childcare issue (for us) but because it means DH will keep his job.

Finally this little thread made me giggle.

Haven't been on this thread for a few days - agree with others that MN is not a place I want to be at the moment. My mental health is better than it was this time last week, using Headspace daily and getting out for a walk really helps.

My friend and her family who all have CV19 are recovering well. She has the most awful cough but the rest of the family are almost over it. Nearly everyone round here is cooperating with the self-isolating and distancing. DH working from home for the foreseeable, and the kids are finishing school today. Strange times.

Keep positive, keep inside and keep away from other people. We'll get there.

thekaratekid · 20/03/2020 08:27

Checking in for more positivity. I was thinking this morning, how, despite all the dismantling and cost reducing of the NHS over the last 2 decades, we still have one of the most advanced healthcare systems in the world. We have world leading doctors, specialists and nurses. I am so grateful to live in a country which has one unified health system. It is like one giant ship heading towards a big storm, we can weather it.

We have researchers at world leading universities churning out research at incredible rates. The Imperial College Study was issued so quickly and is now changing the game strategy at home and across the globe (well I think the US took some heed - the study modelled the UK and US as examples).

Reading how 1400 companies came forward to produce ventilators shows how engineering expertise we have to draw upon. Probably not all those 1400 will the suitable. But even if 500 companies made 1000 ventilators each, that is half a million ventilators.

It is hard. I have generalised anxiety so constantly keep ruminating over everything. However, in a situation we can't ultimately control, we just have to let the government and experts lead us and adhere to their advice.

I agree fear is the enemy

Spacecadetagain · 20/03/2020 08:50

Some of the other threads are terrifying .. if I could play out a lot of the responses in RL they’d be stood there ominously shouting .. death! Death is coming ! Like the vicar in the IT crowd when Denholm dies .. honestly .. they seem to be enjoying the doom mongering .. Thank god for this thread

magimedi · 20/03/2020 09:29

In the nicest way, can we keep any talk of doom away from this thread, please?

My positive for today is several emails that appeared this morning from far flung friends, some of whom I haven't seen for years & really only contact Christmas & birthdays. Lovely to hear their news & reconnect at this time. Planning to send a few myself later today.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/03/2020 10:02

Two of my three children have now been in touch this week, which is a plus; the one in Norway is suffering a little because he has two children at home after they shut all the schools and his wife is a teacher working from home so all is frantically busy, but they are fine and being near a seashore can take the dog for long walks with nobody else for miles. He claims that actually, this all suits the Norwegians very well, since their instinct is mostly to avoid other people anyway and self-isolation is no particular hardship to them! Their only problem is that they have been asked not to go and hole up in their holiday cabins in the wilderness, because local hospitals don't want them if they break a leg.

Alsohuman · 20/03/2020 10:16

It’s my boy’s birthday today. 45 years ago I was in a hospital bed, feeling like I was sitting on barbed wire, and marvelling at the contents of the Perspex box beside me. We’ve been texting all morning and, while I’m sad we won’t see one another this weekend, at least we’re in touch. Let’s take comfort where we find it.

Millie2013 · 20/03/2020 10:32

I’m beginning to think I might be Norwegian Grin
Happy birthday to Also’s boy! All the best people were born in 1975!!

Spudlet · 20/03/2020 10:37

I was worried last night about food, but I got to the supermarket early this morning and got everything I wanted. Plus a sticker book and sparkly ball for DS, and a set of resistance bands for myself (Aldi, how do I love thy middle aisle of random happiness). There was a bit of a queue to get in, but it was all very good-natured and certainly not at Christmas Eve madness levels. 👍

I believe that we may also be closet Norwegians Grin

AutumnRose1 · 20/03/2020 10:49

Wait, I can get a sticker book and sparkly ball in the supermarket? Yay!

estherfrewen · 20/03/2020 10:51

Oh my goodness, is the Great British Sewing Bee coming back? I was so happy to see the Repair Shop this week as well. Today bought 3 books from Waterstones. My non-GCSE taking DS has just started Catcher in the Rye - reading for pleasure again after slogging so hard from October half term without any personal reading. He had good mocks and good predicted grades and is feeling slightly smug as he has worked so solidly all the way through this year and I'm hoping his grades reflect this. He's now having some PS4 time after family walk and we are going to feed the ducks later - even though he is 16!

PrivateSpidey · 20/03/2020 11:06

Hello all. Hope everyone is hanging in there. Am enjoying all the positive posts as always.

My positive news is our local paper has a photo and article about a group who got together (via FB I think) to help vulnerable people in the community with food/medication drop offs. It's great to to see and also it's great to see the paper focusing on the positivity - perhaps the editor has been reading this thread Wink

Also, I bloody love the BBC for putting all those old box sets etc on iPlayer.

And for anyone who is interested, Gardeners' World returns tonight on bbc2. I've got loads of seeds ready to sow, and a few plants to put in so I am hoping for some fine weather ASAP!

Happy birthday to your DS Also!

Flowers for MinesaPinot

Bouncingbomb · 20/03/2020 11:19

My positive is the beautiful weather, last day of school for DD.

I could be a ‘key worker’ but don’t need it as I can work from home for the foreseeable (I am on the vulnerable list).

I have splurged on a gas bbq this morning, it is being delivered tomorrow 😊. I am planning on spending a fair amount of time outside during this, chiminea fires and bbqs - wrapped up if necessary.

DD wants to learn embroidery.

We have drawn up a yoga 🧘‍♀️ timetable with plans to row and use my bike on a trainer. Hopefully I will emerge looking bloody fab in 12 weeks.

Spudlet · 20/03/2020 11:25

@AutumnRose1 Oh yes! A sparkly Frozen II ball that lights up when it bounces. For the princely sum of 49p. It has made DS so happy Grin

tobee · 20/03/2020 11:26

Woke up a bit early so plugged myself into listening to mindfulness YouTube videos and dozed on and off after that. Some of them were a bit short and others were in fact lectures so I might have to find them before sleep rather than after. Smile

AutumnRose1 · 20/03/2020 11:36

I can’t find anything on iplayer that mum would like. Am I missing any period dramas? She’d hide under the bed before watching Spooks etc.

I’m all set for a rewatch of Mr Selfridge, which I have on DVD.

PrivateSpidey · 20/03/2020 11:43

I thought Cranford was on there Autumn but I might be wrong??

Agree with your mum about Spooks! I love it but it doesn't really fit the mood right now. Although I might make an exception for the Matthew McFadyen episodes...

Callybrid · 20/03/2020 11:50

(Quick note to say I agree with magimedi - I think we’d all be better off if we keep all doom and gloom off this thread; including contrasting with rest of mn etc.)

@gingerbreadslice - wedding magazines sounds a great distraction. are you crafty at all? Could set a project to make a load of decorations/favours/something ???.

Which reminds me, I still haven’t ordered an fabric/yarn for all the sewing and knitting I hope I’ll do.

I did however get to Homebase and stock up on pots and compost. The man on the till said he’d never seen it so busy - makes me happy to imagine a whole load of people getting out in their gardens and balconies and getting a lot of joy from growing things.

I have an idea for a nursery newsletter I’m going to float to my son’s nursery manager - we have a WhatsApp group but it tends to get a bit overwhelmed with memes and in-jokes from the gang who all know each other. I thought she or I could collate photos people send in of stuff they’re doing at home and send out a little email photo newsletter each week to give parents ideas, and keep kids and teachers seeing each other and learning about what each are doing.

Spacecadetagain · 20/03/2020 11:57

I need to know how to hide all the other threads if someone could direct me .. apologies my previous post was tongue in cheek .. IT crowd fan and ex nurse so slightly dark sense of humour ! On a positive note DD is studying online and the school have set up a portal where they can all chat to each other in RT and the teacher too so that is really helping 😊

Spacecadetagain · 20/03/2020 11:57

I’m thinking in the next few months there are going to be a lot of decorating and gardening projects going on !
