I have just received this from my GP (and yes, it was recieved in capital letters, I haven’t edited it):

COVID-19: FOLLOWING LATEST GUIDANCE, Edited out MEDICAL CENTRE WILL BE OPERATING A TELEPHONE CONSULTATION ONLY SERVICE. ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ASSESSED, THE CLINICIAN WILL DECIDE IF A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION IS NEEDED. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PROTECT OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN THE NEAR FUTURE, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED, DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Is that unnecessary and rude? I haven’t even seen a doctor at that surgery since eleven months ago, it’s not like I’m hounding at their door every day and a walking risk.

I get that it is important and needs to be clarified but wtf, does anyone else think it’s really rude to send spam messages to random people in that tone of manner?

OP posts:

It’s a perfectly standard text message.

Unhomme · 16/03/2020 11:09

No, it's fine. YABU.

ForestYeti · 16/03/2020 11:09

I think you’re being a tad sensitive it looks absolutely fine

user1483387154 · 16/03/2020 11:09

you are totally over reacting

Purplelion · 16/03/2020 11:09

It isn’t a spam message to random people. It’s clearly a message sent to everyone at the surgery. It isn’t at all rude either, it explains everything clearly and they’re just making sure everyone is aware.

OhLook · 16/03/2020 11:10

You're being ridiculous. What a time to nitpick the NHS over nothing.

loobyloo1234 · 16/03/2020 11:10

YABU. It's made you take notice hasn't it - thats the intention

NewName2020 · 16/03/2020 11:10

It's just a text? What's your issue with it, that it's in capital letters?

DurhamDurham · 16/03/2020 11:10

The message will have just gone to every patient who has registered their mobile number with the surgery. You could complain but I think it would be a total waste of your time and theirs. They have bigger things to worry about right now.

FAQs · 16/03/2020 11:10

It might be larger for those with sight issues and it’s a standard email being sent be GP practices to all registered patients so don’t be a twat and complain.

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/03/2020 11:11

Totally standard and will have been sent to everyone - it’s not just for you!

crapette · 16/03/2020 11:11

Have you been living in a cave OP?

MaggieFS · 16/03/2020 11:12

The caps are unnecessary but it looks like a message which will have gone to everyone on their books, and under the circumstances, is completely fine. Please don't be over sensitive and waste their time by following up on it, it is not personal.

CaptainBrickbeard · 16/03/2020 11:12

Ha, ours said DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ENTER THE SURGERY AS YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN. They have to be crystal clear and very firm because so many people assume the rules don’t apply to them. It’s not rude. They are under unprecedented strain and cannot risk anyone coming in and compromising things further. Doctors’ surgeries are a huge vector of transmission and they have to act decisively.

Snowflake alert ❄

dontdisturbmenow · 16/03/2020 11:12

Why rude? They thank for people's cooperation.

The question is why you are taking it personally? It's not about you, it's about the practice. Do you think they should waste time to go over their full list of patients, probably over 5000 of them, and pick out those who haven't only been to the doctor in the last 6 months and then decide which were unreasonable to have done so, and only send to these people?

Your expectations are unreasonable. They're sending it to all the patients to inform them of a decision the practice had to made, maybe because some doctors/nurses/admin had to self isolate or look after their children at home, and there are only a few doctors available. But yes, make it about your offended feelings!

wendywoopywoo222 · 16/03/2020 11:12

Why would you complain. I received the Same message this morning. It's common sense with everything that's going on, not aggressive.

heartsonacake · 16/03/2020 11:12

YABU and oversensitive. It’s not rude or aggressive, it’s a standard message explaining what’s going to happen.

PositiveVibes11 · 16/03/2020 11:13

Get a grip. It's not being sent to random people it will have been sent to all their patients. What they don't need now is to be dealing with ridiculous complaints.

MadameButterface · 16/03/2020 11:13

Yeah sure go on ahead, i’m sure nhs staff are sat there thumb twiddling just wishing some karen would rock up demanding to speak to a manager to break up the monotony of their tedious day. Your feels are what’s important right now.

pooopypants · 16/03/2020 11:13

Jesus OP, that's your biggest worry right now?

Find a hobby. I recommend knitting.

YABVVVVU

TerrorWig · 16/03/2020 11:14

It’s not spam to random people, it’s an important message to people who are registered with them.

I can’t believe you’re actually serious to be honest.

TooTrueToBeGood · 16/03/2020 11:14

It's not spam to random people, is it though? It's a communication to all their registered clients. Nothing offensive about how it's worded either.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 16/03/2020 11:16

Follow Piers Morgan on Twitter if you're this desperate to be offended.

dtc24 · 16/03/2020 11:16

That looks like a totally normal message that would (and should) be sent to everyone who is registered there.

They have much more to worry about and concentrate on than complaints like that.
