I have just received this from my GP (and yes, it was recieved in capital letters, I haven’t edited it):

COVID-19: FOLLOWING LATEST GUIDANCE, Edited out MEDICAL CENTRE WILL BE OPERATING A TELEPHONE CONSULTATION ONLY SERVICE. ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN ASSESSED, THE CLINICIAN WILL DECIDE IF A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION IS NEEDED. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PROTECT OUR PATIENTS AND STAFF. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BOOKED IN THE NEAR FUTURE, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED, DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.

Is that unnecessary and rude? I haven’t even seen a doctor at that surgery since eleven months ago, it’s not like I’m hounding at their door every day and a walking risk.

I get that it is important and needs to be clarified but wtf, does anyone else think it’s really rude to send spam messages to random people in that tone of manner?

OP posts:
FFSFFSFFS · 16/03/2020 11:29

Jesus wept OP - you are beyond unreasonable on this one.

BacklashStarts · 16/03/2020 11:30

Can’t see anything at all to complain about or anything rude.

Ginfordinner · 16/03/2020 11:30

Is that unnecessary and rude?

No. You are easily offended. The NHS are under a huge amount of pressure right now, and you are looking for offence at a reasonable message that has been sent out to all patients. Just ignore the fact that it is in capital letters.

They may have sent it in capitals for the benefit of people with poor eyesight. YABVU.

Lamby225 · 16/03/2020 11:30

I work in a surgery and believe me our workload has increased, there will be things happening in the background that patients are unaware of, all for the safety of patients to minimise risk and for things to run as smooth as possible. Can’t understand why you are offended. Maybe read the message again in a gentle voice ! Perhaps it’s the capital letters that make you think they are shouting !

TheFastandTheCurious · 16/03/2020 11:32

It's not spam, it's a public information message about a very worrying and serious issue, you have received it because you are a member of the GP practice that sent it, no?

I bet you'd have complained if you hadn't received one if you knew other patients did

Duchessofblandings · 16/03/2020 11:32

What’s wrong with that?
We’ve had the same. Perfectly standard language and very sensible policy.

ExclamationPerfume · 16/03/2020 11:33

Seriously? There is nothing aggressive whatsoever with the message. It is to keep others safe.

hoxtonbabe · 16/03/2020 11:34

Oh come on! This is standard stuff. It’s a text sent to all patients and I don’t see anything rude about it.

mrsBtheparker · 16/03/2020 11:34

I swear that there are people on this site who would take offence at anything and everything, if they can't find something to 'offend' them they would be worried sick, 'What am I missing???'.

CodenameVillanelle · 16/03/2020 11:34

Are you for real??
People are actually dying and more will die and you're upset about capital letters?

roarfeckingroar · 16/03/2020 11:34

What's wrong with that?

pinkyredrose · 16/03/2020 11:35

I'd definitely call the doctor's surgery, not to complain but to make an appointment for yourself.

Now if they’d said STAY AWAY YOU GERM RIDDLED BASTARDS, I’d have been on your side Wink

TerribleCustomerCervix · 16/03/2020 11:38

This has just reminded me to stop in to my GP’s surgery with a tub of Celebrations for the admin staff who will do doubt be busting their balls for their patients in the face of nonsense like this.

user764329056 · 16/03/2020 11:38

Don’t you have anything better to do OP?

HaudMaDug · 16/03/2020 11:39

Complain about what? Capital letters?
The important message that your GP surgery has sent to all of their patients has caught your attention and you have read it at this important time. JOB DONE. Stop nit picking.

hazelnutlatte · 16/03/2020 11:40

I work in a GP practice, we sent a very similar message to our 30k patients on Friday. Please don't complain - we are in full on crisis planning mode at the moment and really don't have time to deal people who get offended by text messages!
The message is blunt but it needs to be - please don't attend the surgery unless a Dr says you can.

FallonSwift · 16/03/2020 11:40

It's not a spam message - it's a mass text from your GP's surgery to tell you of a new procedure.

It will be in CAPS because quite often the type-text systems transpose it that way.

It may sound rude, but surgeries need to be very direct and clear in their instructions, otherwise people have a nasty habit of thinking that instructions don't apply to them.

If you think that taking up your Practice Manager's time with a complaint about the format of a text message is worthwhile, at a time when there is an ongoing public health emergency, then that says quite a lot about you.

YgritteSnow · 16/03/2020 11:40

Yes send a whiny letter. Take a member of staff away from their already busy day and force them to take the time to acknowledge said whiny letter with an unnecessary email or letter. You do that Hmm

RollingDog · 16/03/2020 11:41

Really OP? Give your head a wobble. A complaint FFS?? Wow. Angry

TheFastandTheCurious · 16/03/2020 11:42

@pinkyredrose Grin

NoMoreDickheads · 16/03/2020 11:42

YABU it's not sent to just you/a few people it's presumably to everyone

I don't think it seems aggressive (maybe all caps would usually seem that way, but perhaps that's because they want people to take it seriously.)

It's just factual, telling everyone what they're doing.

Sidge · 16/03/2020 11:42

Oh dear god.

I work in primary care and posts like this make me want to self isolate even though 1, I’m not ill and 2, I’m not allowed to.

Get a bloody grip. It’s not spam, it’s your own GP surgery you plonker and it’s in capitals to catch people’s attention and make them read it.

If this is the sort of thing you get offended by you need a reality check.

mnthrowaway202020 · 16/03/2020 11:42

You’re weird.

You’re not annoyed at the contents of the text (telephone consultations only), but because it’s in capital case? I have read it over and I don’t think the tone is rude, it’s factual and to the point. It’s easy to understand and most importantly, the message is clear. It matches their target audience just fine.

If you think it’s apparently spam, ask them to remove your number from your file to ensure you won’t receive such important messages in the future.

Why would you bother to make a complaint over something so mundane, when you know that they’re currently extremely busy? I’d hope that they’d consider unregistering you as a response because it’s such a frivolous complaint.
