We're all imagining occasions when our families got ill in rotation

LarkDescending · 16/03/2020 17:41

Boris was extremely unclear on 7 or 14 days. He said at the beginning “if you or anyone else in your household has symptoms, stay home for 14 days”.

Then after a question the CSO said that it is still 7 days for an individual - presumably living alone - but if they are part of a household it is 14 days (for all household members), to allow for time of transmission between household members.

1happyhippie · 16/03/2020 17:41

It isn’t very clear is it?
This is why you need proper plans put in place, not just to suggest people keep out the pub if they want!

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 17:41

I do think the 7 days/14 days thing sort of makes sense. It's not ideal, but it probably will help reduce spread. I do think this needs to be shared widely, so that everyone is aware!

It's the rest of it that's so vague as to be useless.

Number12 · 16/03/2020 17:41

14 days allows others in household to catch and recover without leaving house and passing on even if unsympathetic. Its an amendment really.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 16/03/2020 17:42

A very clever way of shouldering all the costs onto business big and small IMO. "we advise this" "we suggest that".

So no chance people can claim on eg event insurance, or even advice on how people can claim SSP.

Makes me fucking sick.

Exochord · 16/03/2020 17:42

It’s embarrassing. Other countries are taking the piss because we aren’t responding strongly enough.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 17:42

Apparently there is precise advice going on the website, which is something.

AlunWynsKnee · 16/03/2020 17:42

Are they saying if someone in the family gets it then the whole family is in isolation for 14 days? Have they forgotten they aren't testing people so how will anyone know?

PleaseStopCrying · 16/03/2020 17:42

Boris was extremely unclear on 7 or 14 days

So glad it wasn't just me who was confused.

Lotuscup563 · 16/03/2020 17:42

Did anyone else see the 20 seconds before Boris talking about the WHO saying children have died from the virus?

No one seems to have mentioned it so now I think i imagined it?

fedup21 · 16/03/2020 17:43

Schools will close down due to lack of staffing, I think.

Presumably that’ll solve the closing schools dilemma for Boris.

I wish one of the journos would ask what a large gathering consists of.

TheCanterburyWhales · 16/03/2020 17:44

Blimey.
Just related all this to dp and he's going "what? what?"
Is anything actually going to be enforced? Because there are already a shitload of threads saying "even if it comes I'm still going to do a, b, c and d"
Are the Brits being left to work it out for themselves?

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:44

Stephen John Davis - 'Hey 10DowningStreet BorisJohnson you have just hung the theatre industry out to dry. It’s not their decision to close. You were elected to lead, so lead. Call it and let them share the loss with their insurers to whom they’ve paid millions in premiums for this sort of thing.'

Edintink1 · 16/03/2020 17:44

What about poor frontline nurses & other medical staff who are immune compromised or in high risk group, what happens to them?

Babyfairy0923 · 16/03/2020 17:44

If you live on your own 7 days- if you live with others 14 days

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:44

Janine Gibson - 'Don’t understand why they wouldn’t instruct the theatres to close and allow them to exercise their insurance. Is it a legal thing?'

Exochord · 16/03/2020 17:45

Still no number of deaths declared today. I’m beginning to think they’re hiding this information because it would cause panic. It’s fucking disgraceful.

SometimeSomeday · 16/03/2020 17:45

@Lotuscup563 I caught a bit of that. The presenter and the guest didn’t seem to have a clue about it and didn’t know where the WHO had got that information from. You definitely didn’t imagine it!

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 17:45

God I’m so glad they are doing these daily briefings

TheElementsOfMedical · 16/03/2020 17:46

Exactly! Still trying to protect rich mates like the insurance lobby over citizens' lives. And can turn around and blame it on the individuals if (when) they suffer.

DGRossetti · 16/03/2020 17:46

Call it and let them share the loss with their insurers to whom they’ve paid millions in premiums for this sort of thing.'

Of course next time, why bother buying insurance ?

confusedandtired99 · 16/03/2020 17:46

He still didn’t answer the question about the medical conditions... he hedged

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 17:47

@AlunWynsKnee No, they are saying that if someone in the household has a cough/temp, everyone should isolate for 14 days.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:47

James Cook - 'Nicola Sturgeon: not recommending wholesale closures of Scotland’s schools just now. This will be kept under review. Advice is that a) children’s public health is better protected in schools at this stage and b) this will allow parents in the NHS workforce to keep working.'

Sky news - 'Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will close its borders to non-citizens and non-residents as part of the country's response to coronavirus'
