Oh and now medical idiot is saying the person who has had it twice they would have had even a short immunity and that will be enough to stop this spreading round the country - what even if it's a 1 week, 2 week immunity because that Japan guy only had about that!

Exochord · 16/03/2020 17:29

By not ordering businesses to close they are also protecting the bottom line of big insurance companies.
Yes. People can’t claim on insurance for closing pubs, restaurants, cancelling events, etc until the government officially issues a ban. Unfortunately that means people are forced to proceed as normal because in the absence of a ban they’d have to shoulder the cost.

CharlieTangoBanana · 16/03/2020 17:30

@Division exactly my point, your insurance may well have covered you if the government ordered your business to close.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 17:30

@VivaLeBeaver He hasn't read "the report" on that situation, either, which is pretty concerning.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:31

Does Boris realise 30% of the country still thinks it all ott.

And in London a lot of minorities barely follow UK news - not sure unless forced large religious gatherings will cease.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/03/2020 17:32

This isn't enough for my work to allow us to work from home. They said they'd do it if 'told' and this really isn't any more than 'perhaps you could'. Arseholes. The train is where all of us at work are going to bloody get it.

I might have a cough tomorrow.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:33

Chris Mason - 'Prime Minister: "the fundamentals of the UK economy are strong. If we can get the disease under control, flatten that peak, then there is absolutely no reason why economies worldwide should not come roaring back."

Chris Mason - 'Professor Chris Whitty: "sustainability is absolutely critical here. This is not a situation where a couple of weeks and this goes away. People need to realise we are in for the long haul on this. We have to see this as a long game." '

twelveminutespast · 16/03/2020 17:33

Does this mean now that most of us will not be able to go work? I just feel confused by Boris' statement

Babyfairy0923 · 16/03/2020 17:33

Do asthmatics need to isolate?

picklemewalnuts · 16/03/2020 17:33

Sorry @ClientQueen . Can you exert some moral pressure on them?

VivaLeBeaver · 16/03/2020 17:34

@SansaSnark yep, it's a bit worrying that the average MNer seems to be reading more reports than him. Guess he has meetings and stuff though. But why hasn't some flunky told him. Bit bloody important.

Number12 · 16/03/2020 17:34

I think the point is that people will continue to go out and therefore catch corona, hence not banning pubs etc to close. They need people to keep catching it to keeping it moving through the community. They know some will ignore, that's the point. (I think!)

AlunWynsKnee · 16/03/2020 17:34

It's so muddled.

nellodee · 16/03/2020 17:34

Nope, it's about not paying out on insurance.

DigitalGhost · 16/03/2020 17:35

Are they saying that pregnant women should socially distance or we're to isolate for 12 weeks? It's so ridiculously vague

CharlieTangoBanana · 16/03/2020 17:35

I drove through our local town today - it was eerily quiet and lots of shops were closed.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:35

ITV News -'We are a mature, grown up and liberal democracy' 'Boris Johnson suggests there's no need for emergency powers to enforce isolation.'

nellodee · 16/03/2020 17:35

That's what my town centre is like all year round, CharlieTangoBanana.

PleaseStopCrying · 16/03/2020 17:36

Im now massive confused as in some instances some have to stay home for 7 days and other's for 14 but I found it hard to follow on what situation required which form of isolation??

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:36

Matthew Goodwin - 'Pregnant women - "we are very early in what we know about this. Early evidence suggests that in most cases no complications at giving birth if mother infected. There might be a small risk, as with all infections, we do not know for sure at the moment. This is a new virus." '

1happyhippie · 16/03/2020 17:37

7 days isolating for a person living alone, 14 days for a family? That’s about all I could make of it.

Beebityboo · 16/03/2020 17:38

We are a mature, grown up and liberal democracy' 'Boris Johnson suggests there's no need for emergency powers to enforce isolation.'
Take it he's never been to Walsall Grin.

Angryrant55 · 16/03/2020 17:38

Experts on Dutch television are ridiculing British strategy.
Saying its super risky.

SansaSnark · 16/03/2020 17:38

It's all so vague, though. I think they need to be clearer and set clear guidelines that people can follow.

I think being vague leads to uncertainty and people feeling more worried.

I am very concerned that the CMO and CSO aren't keeping up with all developments, though. I knew about the woman in Japan, and I have a full time job which is nothing to do with coronavirus!

CharlieTangoBanana · 16/03/2020 17:39

7 days if you are a single person household, 14 days for everyone else because looking at his crystal bollock he can tell that other family members will all get it exactly after 5-7 days and they will all be virus free and squeaky clean from vigorous hand washing on day 14
